I'm in Wales so maybe that's the difference? Madness really that where you live decides what you get offered. It used to be offered as standard here - I turned up to 12 wk scan when pregnant with DS expecting it as that's what the leaflets had said I'd be getting. I was shocked to be told they didn't do it anymore and it was also too late for private one as I was off on hols the following day!
Aloha- I know what you mean. DS has also been going through really poor sleeping phase- I keep telling myself he's trying to prepare me!!!
Am also fed up of attempting the embracing of sickness- another evening of it!
James- I didn't meet you before but am so pleased for you!
I'm off to bed now as at least I don't know that I still feel sick if I'm asleep! Also I seem to have been enthusiastically posting all evening and don't want you all to be thinking- who's this newbie who won't shut up?!

Sarah2506 · 10/12/2012 21:26

I find it quite bizarre that the nuchal testing isn't offered in Wales. Should be universal. Even if you wouldn't do anything with the info surely better to know what lies ahead and prepare? Though as other ladies have said it really is such a personal thing. I feel really uncomfortably generally testing for something that isn't life threatening. Just feels like genetic engineering. However, as it is offered we took it, because we can. Almost wish it wasn't offered!

forgetmenots · 10/12/2012 21:43

I know that the hospital where I get my antenatal care (in Scotland) has only started offering NTS in the past month. Health is devolved so maybe that will play a part (swings and roundabouts with pros and cons!)

redwellybluewelly · 10/12/2012 22:57

Our pct only tests when 35yeaRSVP or older. We got the test done due to them not taking any chances in the pregnancy.

And yes. The results for us would decide wether we continued with the pregnancy, we have a disabled child already and fight with the nhs to get services and pay for private therapy etc.

Just popping in from the June 2012 thread to say hi and that I saw my beautiful DD (now 6mo) for the first time on Dec 11th last year and you must all be so excited having your dating scans!! It is the most incredible journey and the time really does go so quickly so enjoy the lovely kicks and bumps from inside!

Wishing you all well on your journey to June 2013, Blondie and MiniBlondie Xx

forgetmenots · 10/12/2012 23:06

Did you get your results back redwelly? Fingers crossed for you. I know from very close relatives how difficult that constant fight can be, more power to your elbow.

forgetmenots · 10/12/2012 23:07

that's lovely blondie! Thanks for stopping in :)

Sunbeam18 · 11/12/2012 08:35

Awww, that's lovely, Blondie! Thanks! X

suzyrut · 11/12/2012 09:26

Morning all. Just wanted to say good luck MrsBri hope your scan goes well and congrats to you James that is such lovely news for Christmas for you.

I know what you mean redwelly although I don't have a child with special needs I have two older children and it was a sht few weeks waiting for results of test/cvs I knew that they'd change the outcome for me. What's important is having the choice so that's very unfrair for you amIgoingmad*

MrsBri · 11/12/2012 10:53

Hi all :-)

Scan was lovely. Measuring 12+5 when I'm 12+2, so a wriggly little grower! New date of 20th, which is my BIL's birthday, so he will be pleased. :-)

So amazing to see it zooming around!

Almost cried, as did DH, but we held it together. Just.

So relieved. Didn't have the NT test, as we had already said we wouldn't.

Never gonna concentrate at work today. When I finally get there!

Can't wait to buy some maternity wear now!

MrsBri · 11/12/2012 10:54

Oh, sorry...huge congrats to James. Such excellent news :-)

forgetmenots · 11/12/2012 11:06

Great news mrsbri! We celebrated our scan by buying our first babygro so I don't think a wee maternity item would hurt...!

Quick q - I thought I was 13+2 at my scan (wasn't 100%) and it came up as 13+0 - so revised my date by two days... It doesn't mean baby is small and my date was right, does it? (probably stupid to worry about that I know!)

Sunbeam18 · 11/12/2012 11:19

Wonderful, MrsBri! How exciting! I have my scan tomorrow - excited and nervous! I am having the NT. Going to announce at work on Thursday, all being well.
Good luck to any others having scans today.

forgetmenots · 11/12/2012 11:27

Good luck sunbeam! Hope all is well tomorrow, very exciting!

EddieIzzardIsOrange · 11/12/2012 11:32

forget I wouldn't worry, the scans (especially this early) are not 100% accurate on dates, its more for guidance for women who dont have any idea of how far they are rather than set in stone

At my first (7/8 weeks) they moved my due date back 2 days from what I thought (from 2nd of June back to the 4th) then at my 12 week scan they moved it to 31st of May (so 2 days earlier than I had/4 days earlier than they had)

At 20 weeks its likely to be much more accurate but considering babies can come anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks and still be 'term' its really just a rough date to work to

Hope everyones doing ok, am 15+2 today, seems to be flying by! Not being sick anymore which is amazing but does mean the hunger phase has kicked in and I'm snacking a lot more!

Got my 20 weeks scan date too, 2 days before DS's 2nd birthday so we should know if he's having a brother or sister for it which is nice!

Anyone got any feelings on gender? I read a study that said pregnant women when asked correctly what they were having guessed 70-75% of the time so something to be said for intuition...

forgetmenots · 11/12/2012 11:36

Thanks eddie - had thought that must be it but realised I didn't know for sure. When is your 20week scan? Mine is on Jan 25th, excited already.

I've no idea whether baby is pink or blue - not finding out at scan, but everyone seems to think it's a boy, except my DM who thinks it is a girl! All based on old wives tales so taking it with a pinch of salt!

DontmindifIdo · 11/12/2012 11:46

Forget - babies have growth spurts at different times, plus the weeks calculated are on the assumption you ovulated exactly 2 weeks after the first day of you last period and that you got pregnant that day - realistically you might have a slightly different cycle/got pregnant on a different day that week.

MrsBri - have you had a look at Seraphine website - they've got a sale on... (I've already got one of their breast feeding tops from last time round, v comfy)

Eddie - my MIL has a theory that you subconciously know, she thought that as DH and I had picked out a boys name for DS at around 10 weeks, but were arguing about girls names while I was still in labour was a sign I 'knew' deep down, then SIL and BIL could easily agree on a girl's name, but not boys, and they had a girl. However this is rather throwing me, as I have a perfect boy and girl name so far...

forgetmenots · 11/12/2012 12:30

Makes sense dontmind - one of the reasons I had an early scan was that my cycles were all over the shop! Thanks :)

forgetmenots · 11/12/2012 12:31

Oh and I'm having a girl if your MIL theory is right! Have had two girl names picked since early days of TTC, easy!

suzyrut · 11/12/2012 12:31

congratulations mrsbri brilliant news. When I finally slipped into a pair of maternity jeans on Sunday the relief was amazing! Sadly comfy rather than stylish seems to be the order of the day with maternity wear but Benneton had some nice things but don't do them on the web unfortunately. When they moved my due date they said that was the one they were sticking with and it wouldn't change again now. I read somewhere that less than 5% of babies actually arrive on their due date though so they're of limited help!

eddie I have a feeling this one's a boy but then I thought that about both my previous ones and one of them turned out to be a girl! I am going to find out at second scan as I am impatient at the best of times!

Dillydollydaydream · 11/12/2012 14:36

Great news James all the best x

AmIGoingMad · 11/12/2012 15:24

That's lovely blondie! Thanks!

Congratulations Mrsbri- it's such a lovely experience isn't it and the relief is huge when you see that little heart beating!

Good luck for tomrw sunbeam!

Forgetmenots I agree that it's most likely that it means that you didn't ovulate on day 11/12 so the date based on your lmp wasn't quite accurate.

Well I'm sick again today but figure I must be getting closer to it stopping now as I've hit the 12 wk mark ( hoping I'm not one of the women who gets it all the way through!)

Still haven't decided for definite about nt- cant see that we would do anything with results but just being prepared might be good. Don't know why I'm so preoccupied with it. I'm 32 now and no history. Think I just keep thinking that this time around its not just mine and DH's lives that will be changing, it's our DS too.

Looking forward to getting my maternity clothes down from attic now. Not sure I'll ever be able to come back from elasticated waistbands again Grin

AmIGoingMad · 11/12/2012 15:25

Eddie- that's lovely timing for 2nd scan! Does DS understand at all at the moment?

Sunbeam18 · 11/12/2012 16:49

Hi all
I'm a bit anxious and wonder if anyone can advise. I know process varies a lot between regions, but I am in Edinburgh. Hopefully someone else might be from this area and can help.
Anyway, I have my 12-week scan tomorrow when I think I am actually 12+6. I am having the nuchal combined test so know the measurement will be taken tomorrow. However, when are the bloods taken for this? I have no appt with midwife again until January and from reading online I see the bloods for the combined test need to be taken before 14 weeks to be meaningful. Should I be making an appt with GP or someone urgently to get this blood test taken?

Thanks for any advice. I had lots of bloods taken by midwife at booking in appt at 9 weeks but think this was too early for use in the combined test?

forgetmenots · 11/12/2012 17:20

Hi sunbeam, sorry I can't be much help other than to say my booking in appointment (at 12+5, in glasgow) was when my midwife would have taken the bloods for NTS. I have only had one appt and my scan was two days later. You may want to ask the sonographer or ask to speak to a MW when you're in - maybe they were able to take the bloods at 9w. Had you already indicated consent for the NTS? There should be a tick sheet in your notes of what your bloods were for. Hope this is some use :)
