Well our bargain so far has been paint for the new house!! Went to B&Q this afternoon and got 3 for 2 on some of the paint plus an offer on BIG tubs of white and then got hubby's trade discount on top of those offers as well as another 20% trade only special discount that was on this weekend so we have just about enough paint for the entire house and saved £100 in the process! I'm stupidly pleased about this!!

Glad you're out tugs and min tugs is fine.

Welcome tipsy!!!

AppleCrumples · 21/10/2012 15:04

Yay tugs glad to hear everything ok. Hospitals are a nightmare for sleep. Am pretty shocked at the porn lady!

Welcome slightly.

Rant of the day... Why can't kids just do their bloody homework? I don't remember my parents being the slightest bit interested in our homework but I seem to spend whole weekeds trying to get reluctant boys to just do it! And they never know what to do even when it is clearly written down for them! My 9 year old keeps complaining that there is no information on cold climates on the Internet then I realised he was basically looking for a website that would do it for him. (ie copy)!

This is the first time in my life when I really look forward to Mondays!

(and breeeathe...)

MarasmeAbsolu · 21/10/2012 15:16

pixel - re the steriliser - hang onto it even if you breastfeed. It comes handy for breastshells (especially if you use the "leaked milk"), for dummies, for medication syringes, etc...

BuntyCollocks · 21/10/2012 17:41

Great news, happy, nothing better than a bargain!

birdies I've started getting my bits together for my bag and baby's bag - still a few bits to do, but I'm getting there. Need to get my huge knickers out of storage Grin I think all I need to buy is my travel size toiletries and that's me set and I'll pack.

happyhow · 21/10/2012 17:46

For the first timers, what do we actually need in our hospital bag?!

I'm 29 weeks tomorrow and thinking about getting a few bits and bobs together. I was thinking more of being ready with that around the 35 week mark as it's around then that we're moving so don't want to lose what we need!!

AppleCrumples · 21/10/2012 19:16

Crikey bunty I've hardly even thought about hospital bag yet. You've just reminded me to start! I had a homebirth last time and never packed one and can't remember what I packed with ds2!

I would say to all don't forget snacks and glucose tablets as I didn't eat all day when I had dd and it was a very long labour and actually stopped at 9 cms due to tired and hungry body. Midwife made me jammy toast and 1 hour later dd arrived!

Pleasenomorepeppa · 21/10/2012 19:30

Hi, I've just found this thread. Hope it's not too late to join!
DD2 is due on Jan 9th.
I am no-where nearly as prepared as I was with DD. I've just got a couple of pairs of maternity leggings & am considering a non-wired bra!

Bunny222 · 21/10/2012 19:44

bunty thanks for that fab list! Think I may print that off and stick on my fridge!
tipsy welcome to the group, and triplets how exciting my goodness!
tugs great news youre home, that woman in hospital with you sounded horrendous.

Physio appt has come through for next week for my SPD will let you know if I get any good tips!

theboutiquemummy · 21/10/2012 20:45

pixel I had the GTT it was ok except having to drink a pint of lucazade in 5 mins n hold it down for 2 hrs when alls you want to do is a massive burp in a busy waiting room

tugs great news but wtf Porn !!! It turns my stomach esp a maternity ward

Great list thanks lovelies

Rant Angry anyone else getting piddled off with the smugness !! Comments like ooh you think you're tired now wait till the baby is born and other words of "advice" oh n the birth horror stories rant over Grin

Natnat29 · 21/10/2012 21:01

Just catching up on this thread been a while- good news that you've been discharged Tugs :)
Yes boutiquemummy getting 'those' kind of comments on a daily basis most annoying is being asked what you up to/doing, what ever answer I give shopping/chilling out/ going for a meal I get the standard 'oh you won't be able to do that soon'

AppleCrumples · 21/10/2012 21:01

theboutique I get people who think it's fine to look at me with my 3 dcs and go 'are you mad' 'you must be crazy' etc! Not very helpful when this was so unplanned I cried for a week! As if I'm not aware of how much work 4 will b!

Although actually I think having 4 will be easier than having 3 and being pregnant! X

AppleCrumples · 21/10/2012 21:05

Oh and for what it's worth you will sleep again you will be able to go shopping and eat out! So many people just seem to focus on scaring others about the early days but they are over so fast!

Complicated24 · 21/10/2012 21:17

Tugs you poor thing but so pleased you are home now. I was in hospital last year and was next to a poor elderly lady with dementia and another lady who prayed very loudly all night so was ringing DH to bring in earplugs immediately!

I'm beginning to feel a bit more organised now. Still haven't got anything for baby but we cleared out spare room yesterday, have ordered some furniture for delivery in December, bid for a cot on eBay today but got outbid but now have a clearer idea what we want and going to Baby Show next weekend where we hope to get pram, possibly cot and a few clothes. I think I might pack hospital bag soon (now 29 weeks) so the list was fantastic. Thank you. Still get really bad restless legs syndrome so not sleeping well. Told consultant at 28 week appt last Friday but there's nothing they can do so just need to put up with it. it is exhausting getting up every few hours to do leg exercises though. I had blood test but didn't have to drink lucozade so not sure if blood is tested for glucose too. Should I have had another test? Got flu jab tomorrow. GP surgery not got WC jab in stock yet.

Question for all you mothers. Would you recommend getting Moses basket only or just cot or both? I would prefer to just get a cot but are Moses baskets much more practical for first few months? Haven't got a clue and don't want to end up wasting money if possible.

Have a good week everyone.

AppleCrumples · 21/10/2012 21:22

Complicated we had just a cot for ds1 and he was fine however this time so far I only have a moses basket so... It really depends on how fast your baby grows as they only fit the Moses basket for a relatively short amount of time

knuckingfackered · 21/10/2012 22:55

didnt bother with moses basket and wont again, just cot and in the early days a baby positioner which is helpful for colic.

And for hospital, cant stress enough flip flops for shower and if you take slippers get cheap hotel style ones cos you will want to chuck them after your home

Tugstonia · 22/10/2012 08:20

That hospital list is fab thank you bunty. I'm going to get mine ready just in case.

So after coming home yesterday I went to my mum's for lunch and about 2 hours later started throwing up. I felt better after puking but no one else has been sick so thinking it can't be food poisoning. But WTF is going on! I've had no sickness of nausea in this pregnancy until now and after the weekend in hospital I'm now mega-paranoid. Should I call mw?

dieciocho · 22/10/2012 08:40

Hi,
Not posted really on this thread before (EDD 31-01-13), but was thinking about hospital bag last night in bed, and on seeing the helpful list on here: won't the hospital provide a few nappies? Sorry to be naive, we're hoping to use washable nappies, but have been told not to buy them until baby is here so that we can see it's shape/size etc.
Should we just buy a pack of disposables to take to hospital with us for the first few days?

Natnat29 · 22/10/2012 08:48

Good list and thanks for the flip-flop tip I never would have th

Natnat29 · 22/10/2012 08:50

(posted too quick!) thought of taking those!
Hello to Dieciocho my due date is 1 day before yours! No advice on the nappies front thought this is my first

newbie6 · 22/10/2012 09:33

Hi all,

Looking for some advice....I noticed a tiny and I mean minuscule amount of blood after I wiped last night, less than a pin prick amount (told you I was paranoid)! Not there during the night but noticed again this morning. It is so small that I'm not sure whether to call the hospital or whether I should just see if it goes away? I'm not in any pain, apart from my sore ribs when I try to sleep? Any thoughts or am I just being silly?

X

Tugstonia · 22/10/2012 09:49

Newbie I would call them to be on the safe side. The midwives and doctors I saw at the weekend said that after 24 weeks they take any kind of bleeding, even teeny amounts, very seriously. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about but definitely best to be sure. Good luck and take care x

Birdies · 22/10/2012 10:11

newbie yes phone - they will prob just say to keep an eye on it but at least you'd have told someone.

complicated I'm one of the few who used a Moses basket loads. Will be using it downstairs for day time naps this time as I have a bednest for our room. You could use pram cot for downstairs though. If you can fit cot in your room and snuggle baby nicely then I guess it's not essential, but I used mine for about 6 months.

Great list bunty. Agree re the knickers, don't bother with disposable ones - just buy massive cheapies from Asda (I got size 16-18 ones and they came up really high which was quite comfy and good for holding pads in!). And re pads, I used the always ones with wings underneath and then I think Boots maternity pads on top. A wings one protects pants just in case but I didn't find them so good on their own as they get a bit sweaty!!

diecio yes take a few disposables in. Hospital will have a few but may not be enough for your whole stay.

And welcome pleasenomore!

BuntyCollocks · 22/10/2012 13:10

Welcome, diecio and pleasenomore

Definitely take a small pack of disposables with you - the hospital will probably only give you the first nappy they put on baby's bum when they pop out! They're not exactly forthcoming with freebies.

newbie definitely give them a call - always better safe than sorry.

Question: I've seen on other pregnancy and antenatal threads that instead of pads, people are recommending tena disposable pants. Now, I can see the logic ... I'm just not sure I can bring myself to buy them.

Have any second timers used them previously? If baby arrives early, we're attending a wedding in London, and one of the dresses I've ordered is a pale grey. I'm thinking they would at least eliminate the chance of a highly embarassing leak ...

katolla · 22/10/2012 15:28

BuntyCollocks, thanks for the hospital bag list! Are you available to plan the rest of my life? My aim for today is not to f anything up, if I can get to the end without that happening I'll count it as a good day.

What's everyone doing for nappies? I just found we're round the corner from a nappy delivery / laundry service which sounds amazing and £15 a week inclusive is cheap, right? I feel like I'll have enough to wash just with dirty clothes, nappies as well I'll feel like a laundrette.
