Ach, MakeTea, it's the latest in a long line of rubbish I've had from him over the years, including his making one of my objectives a couple of years ago 'try to be less disabled' (not exactly that but what it boiled down to) so HR are aware, and I've added this to my 'work incident' diary too - I just want to avoid stress at the minute!

I try to spend a little of my telly-watching-slobbing-out time on my hands and knees which amuses the cats but I think is meant to encourage baby the right way round but a birth ball is probably more comfy!

Rachel130690 · 30/08/2012 18:06

Winter I'm having the same as you. I'm 39 + 3 today and been getting a lot more pains and tightenings over the past few days. Think these are practice ones but at least I feel like it might be actually happening soon :)

My crib mattress arrived today so I'm ready for it all to happen :) just waiting for him to arrive.. very impatiently although hospital bag is missing a few things but I'm planning on packing them on the day.

Random question but is anyone else considering taking in a hair dryer to hospital? Or did you bring one with you with first births? I have very long hair and if I shower or bath when I'm there then my hair will be a disaster and I'm gonna hate all pictures with me in them.. Am I crazy to be thinking about bringing one??

Nightmare your boss sounds crazy.. I hope your last few weeks go very quickly in work and then you have plenty of time to forget about your crazy boss.

MissCoffeeNWine · 30/08/2012 19:53

That's crap nightmare. Can't you just tie your hair back Rachel? My hair is long but I don't really use hair dryers or know about hospital facilities.

I sympathise with the wobbles, I feel very strange this time, never had a wobble with DD but just can't picture this baby. DD was born at home so there wasn't the bringing home bit and noone to ask or rely on, which was fine by me as I just did it even though I'd never held a baby before, it just seemed normal and I knew what she wanted and needed - somehow. This time I just don't know? Strange! I'm hoping it'll work out when it's born.

I'm nearly 39 weeks and last day tomorrow. Also have midwife appointment, first time since 35 weeks, so we'll see what is said there. No idea what way round the baby is but it seems to be stuck out of the front and not in my pelvis or up in my ribs because I wee and breathe like a normal person!

Rachel130690 · 30/08/2012 20:12

Misscoffee I don't tie my hair back.. I no it sounds all very vain but I don't want to hate all pictures I have of me and my new family cause I look a sight. I'd be happy to tie it back during labour but after when everyone visits I'd like to feel comfortable.

If I got onto Mw led unit I don't think it would be a problem cause you have your own room, I'm just not sure if I end up on a ward. I'll maybe get myself some nice hair clips or something and give them a go.

hope it doesn't sound too vain

misscoffee why has it been so long between your Mw appointments? I've been seen every week from 35 weeks..

MissCoffeeNWine · 30/08/2012 21:09

They made this appointment for me at the last one. After this one there's another at 41 weeks apparently. I've never been seen weekly.

Loup23 · 30/08/2012 21:25

39 + 5 today and am sure I'll go over I've not had any contractions or twinges Angry Am happy to wait for due date but do do not want to go to the full two weeks, am do bored of maternity wardrobe!! Hope everyone else is well - last chance for august babies tomorrow! Wink

WhereAreMyShoes · 30/08/2012 21:48

Come oooon baby, just over 36 hours to get yourself born in August!
It's so not gonna happen...

Rachel I didn't even consider taking a hairdryer last time. As this time, I haven't blow dried my hair for about six months as I'm always so bloody hot. I couldn't face blasting hot air all over myself!
I just wash it occasionally, then stick some mousse on and clip my 'fringe' back and leave it.
Its so curly and thick during pregnancy that I don't actually mind the look of it.
Last time however, I got it cut shortly before birth as it was so thick, lots of layers to thin it out. Then when it all fell out 3 months later I thought I was going to be bald! This time, I'm leaving it be!

WhereAreMyShoes · 30/08/2012 21:55

And my goodness. Baby names.
Will I ever like anything?
My other half named our son (with what started out as a joke name!) And his name wasn't on our very short shortlist!
So as he got to name the last one, and both the dogs, I wanted a go.
But looks as though I won't come up with anything by the time she turns one, so will probably be down to him again.

ballroomblitz · 30/08/2012 23:18

You're in the same boat as me then moogs as I didn't have any labour with my last either.

Rachel I had a hairdryer and straighteners in with me last time (in my defence I had already been in hospital for a brave few weeks) I didn't use them after having ds and didn't give a toss what I looked like. My hair's too short to put up now so this time I'll just throw some clips through it and some product to make it mussy. I actually have two photos now holding ds after his birth that if I show people every single person asks who is it holding him as my whole body was swollen up like a balloon and I'm unrecognisable. Hair was the least of my worries :) So in comparison this time I can only look better in the photos I hope.

teachertrainer80 · 31/08/2012 09:49

Loup23 I too am worried about going overdue as I haven't been noticing any Braxton Hicks either (39+4 here). However, I think I may have been mistaking some BHs for baby movements. I get some, generally only on one side that feel more like tightening than movement and I think these may be BHs. Could you be feeling the same things? They are quite gentle, not the whole bump going hard like others have described though....

WinterMymble · 31/08/2012 10:41

Nightmare your boss is WAY out of line there... I am glad HR know about it because legally work have to guve you time for antenatal appointments and things. I am glad you are out of his clutches in two weeks!

maketea i have been slobbing on sofa too, but always lying sideways on my left instead of leaning back, and that seems to gave helped a lot. I also kneel on a pillow and lean on my birthing ball and slob out that way. :) apparently very good position and takes little effort which is good because i feel like a blob!

wherearemyshoes baby names are driving us crackers too! All my NCT friends have beautiful names chosen, and we re just totally struggling to agree on any. I am hoping when we meet her the right name will dawn on us both simultaneously in a rush of endorphin-laced revelation ;)

rachel at edinburgh the labour wards have notices up in each room saying that hair driers and hair straighteners, too, are available on request. I noticed when i was in for a checkup. It might be worth asking your planned hospital if they have that policy too.

nightmare you asked if i felt ready... I do sometimes, and then at other times i feel wobbles too, pickles! my first baby and never really imagined being a mother until last year, so it has been an adventure.

twizzlestix · 31/08/2012 18:25

So 39+6 today, MW booked sweep for next week. Thought she might do one today...but obviously being too impatient :) good news though she could barely feel any of baby's head outside of my pelvis and bump measures lots smaller (this made me panic initially but she explained its due to head being in pelvis) so its now a waiting game...

Loup23 · 31/08/2012 19:24

Thanks teacher maybe you're right, the baby "movements" have been sort of tightening in the last day..... Am not getting too helpful that baby will arrive tomorrow as scheduled!

Good news on the sweep twizzle, i have an appointment with MW on Monday at 40+2, hoping she might offer a sweep then but is that unrealistic? Just want to get on with things now although had dreadful night's sleep last night so maybe a couple more good nights' sleep would be helpful.

Hope baby ladygagoo arrived safely oin Wednesday, anymore babies popped out in August? x

Macaroons · 31/08/2012 22:33

nightmare your boss is way out of line, we are entitled to paid time off to attend antenatal appointments. Maybe you want to raise to HR just for the record...

loup sorry for silly question but what is a sweep?

I'm 39 weeks today, was 3/5th engaged 2 days ago, wonder how much progress is the little one making! Bump is feeling tighter after a 30 min walk today. What are the signs that baby is on its way?

Was watching bbc's "the midwives" on re-play. Wonder if that's a good idea or not as it's scaring me abit Confused

twizzlestix · 31/08/2012 23:13

macaroons a sweep is an internal where the midwife sweeps a finger round the cervix to try to separate the membranes from cervix apparently it encourages the release of prostaglandins which can trigger labour...not sure how successful they are but my MW said can have one every 48 hrs in run up to 42 wks if I want.

WinkyWinkola · 01/09/2012 02:35

Hi. Not been on thread since the beginning but baby Rudy was born at home this evening. 10lbs 4ozs. I'm still stunned.

I really wanted him to be a September baby for school reasons and I was three hours out! Grr.

He's lovely though and is snuffling about in his cot. I am shattered but cannot sleep. Labour started at 5am with lots of low grade niggles and progressed to contractions that were making me hop about every seven minutes. Thank goodness for TENS!

Come 7pm, I was still only 5 cms and I'm used to shorter labours so I was getting really tired a d cheesed off. Contractions were really quite full on.

Come 8pm, mw did an internal a d declared me still only 6cms - i was so upset - but she must have done some sort of sweep because he was born by 9pm. All three mws, dh and myself were stunned at how big he is. It was hard work getting him out. No injuries sustained though.

They wanted to take him to hospital to test his blood sugar as he's so big but he's feeding fine, pink, warm and alert so I refused to go to hospital. Of course now in dead of night when everyone else is slumbering beautifully, I am totally and paranoid alert to his every snuffle and gasp!

Anyway, starting to feel a bit more normal after 5 slices of toast and relishing being able to roll over in bed relatively easily.

I miss my other dcs though. Ds2 asleep after an all day play date. Ds1 and dd at their friend's house for a sleepover. Can't wait to see them all tomorrow and their faces!

Only fly in ointment was MIL saying, "Are you joking? Is he joking?" when dh told her the name over the phone. It's Rudyard but he will be known as Rudy. Dh was livid and upset but who cares as long as we are happy!

TinkerMaloo · 01/09/2012 08:09

Huge congrats and well done Winky! Well done on standing your ground on not being shipped out to hospital too. Now get some rest woman!

Mother in laws are only there to piss you off arent they? Mine has scewed her face up at all our suggestions for both of her grandchildren. Sounds like yours served her purpose well... But take no notice, Rudy is super-cute and Rudyard is very cool. :)

Wow winky 10lb 4! That's amazing! You must get a medal for naturally delivering the biggest baby so far. I think his name is wonderful too, so original. Welcome Rudy. Grin

leelteloo · 01/09/2012 08:22

Oh and I can't remember who was looking for really cute coming home outfit but Zuili has some very sweet newborn sleep suites on there today.

MrsHelsBels74 · 01/09/2012 10:13

Congrats Winky & welcome baby Rudy!

I'm still coming to terms with the fact that this baby's arrival is fairly imminent! Have booked a home birth & ordered our pool so hope it goes according to plan!

ballroomblitz · 01/09/2012 10:46

I love the name Rudy/Rudyard. Pay no notice to your MIL. Mine thinks Sarah is unusual (think country Irish woman) so goodness knows what she will make of our choice Grin . Well done you too - 10lb 4 is no lightweight.

Did anyone else turn over their calender to the month of September and get a moment? It's all beginning to get a bit real now.

NightmareWalking · 01/09/2012 10:53

Rudy is a lovely name! - well done you and congratulations.

Macaroons · 01/09/2012 11:19

Thanks for explaining what a sweep is twizzle and congrats winky for giving birth to a 10 pound 4 oz Rudy at home!

Rachel130690 · 01/09/2012 11:24

Congrats winky I bet he's just gorgeous..

So 1st September now, 2 days off my due date. I'm going walking today god help me buying a ripe pineapple and having hot curry tonight. I'm determined to get him out of me ASAP. Though I do want him to come when he's ready.. But I'm so impatient I can't wait any longer.

My friend who was due 2 weeks after me had her baby this week and all I could think was whys my baby not here yet. I was meant to be first very childish but I'm sick of waiting..

Although I'm very excited about hearing the births on here and can't wait to hear some baby names :) its all very exciting and nerve-wrecking.

leelteloo That's me looking some outfits I'll get on today and have a look. I did find a cute outfit in mothercare but it might be massive, We shall wait and see :)

Okay have to get up now and start getting organised.

Loopyhasanotherbean · 01/09/2012 11:44

congrats winky.

now we are into September i'm also keen to get this baby out asap. Nipple tweaking and tens machine have commenced, and will try pineapple and other things later on. Not long till ELCS anyhow but as baby currently not back to back, if we can get labour started then they'd let me try a VBAC first. So going to do all we can to see if we can beat the ELCS deadline!
