A new thread as the other one was ready to burst!
Thanks *Mikocat" for the new name.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

i think that is a big mistake that we all make.... we all think it is best to keep busy but actually most labours start at night when we are asleep!!!
I lost my water with DS1 at 2am and my contractions became really powerful with DS2 just when i started to relax...
but it is not only just me, it is a statistical fact that labour are more likely to start during the night..

and long walks to encourage contractions is as effective as eating pineapple or a curry (or both!)

patience is your friend (i know it is hard...) :)

purestcocoa · 11/05/2012 18:55

Good luck Mythical I hope things speed up for you.

Harecare I hope things are progressing well for you.

I am hoping too avoid induction too as I have heard so many horror stories. Has anyone had an induction? What was it like for you? I'm meeting with my consultant on Monday, but I have the final acupuncture treatment on Tuesday. It is relaxing so I don't mind- the only thing is that both appointments are in the afternoon which means I'll get stuck in the school-home rush.

I'm waiting for DP so we can go shopping and I am looking forward to stocking up with fabulous fingers- my chocolate addiction is getting increasingly worrying. I will balance out with fruit and high fibre foods of course :). I am definitely making up for the lack of eating I did in the first and second trimester Grin.

Great advice from Tostaky- I felt like a bit of a loon pacing up and down my tiny flat like an irritated businessman. It's a chocolate fingers and sofa weekend for me. I hope everyone is coping well.

cupcakefairy · 11/05/2012 19:45

bodeccia I'm surprised you couldn't have the sweep if your cervix was thin.. my mw said my cervix was still quite thick but was stretchy & a bit dilated (which is from having previously had a baby).. sorry for you though, hope the next one works. Sex the night following sweep is meant to help so I'll have to see if dh will comply tonight ;)

cocoa you're right to be wary of induction because stats do show you're more likely to need intervention with them, however this ISN'T the case for everyone.. one of my nct friends was induced a bit early with both hers & just the pessary got things going v quickly & she had 2 very short very straightforward births.
I had just the pessary too at 42+2 & labour started 4 hours later.. 11 hours after that ds was born. He was a forceps delivery but that was because he was totally the wrong way round with forehead presenting so I couldn't push him out & then there was meconium..so I can't really blame the induction for that.
Just take each day as it comes, & do what u (& dp) feel is best for baby. You can refuse induction & they'll keep you monitored with scans & ctgs, that's what I did but by day 16 I was just too fed up!

mythical so frustrating for you, hope things happen tonight!

tostaky we saw The Avengers for our final date night last wk.. sitting there for 2.5hours was sooo uncomfortable. Good film though. What will you see? (i miss the cinema so much!)

Catsycat · 11/05/2012 20:26

harecare sounds like something's happening, even if its not as regular as you'd like yet - good luck!

Bodeccia liking your idea about shortening the to do list!! Exhausted today, so it hasn't got any shorter on its own. Some of my maternity stuff is too tight now, so I might be joining you in a kaftan (and crocs) soon Grin! Sorry the sweep didn't happen, but the bishops score can change quite quickly, so don't be downhearted (easy to say, I know). At least you have a date now for induction, so you know you won't be pg forever!

dreaming my childbearing has been nothing like my mum's, unfortunately. She went 10 days over with my elder brother, then had an 8 hour labour start to finish. I arrived a couple of days early, and it took 2 hours!!! My DD1 was 18 days overdue, 3 days of failed induction (first timers close your ears now), and an EMCS. With DD2 I had 6 or 7 sweeps from 37 weeks onwards, went into labour 13 days overdue, went in for monitoring 14 days overdue in early labour, and wasn't let back out, due to severe decelerations in her heart rate. I had an EMCS 15 days overdue. My cervix is like a bolted manhole cover, really. Hence the ELCS this time! :)

cocoa I am not typical of the response to induction, if I compare myself to my friends. Theirs were all successful, and got things going promptly with one or two pessaries (even my friend who was induced both times at 37 weeks). I am notorious with the midwives and my friends for my ability to resist giving birth - so much that the hospital offering me a VBAC became a bit of a joke at the mw's christmas party, apparently!!!! Grin

LittleSarah cleaning the oven??? Don't do it - even I haven't got that on my list Grin. Hope the other homebirth lady pops soon (or waits till you're done)!

cupcake Hope you get the blanket finished - impressed how quickly you seem to have done that. Glad the sweep went well.

mythical do try and sleep when you can - you need to rest as well as keeping active, or you will exhaust yourself. Remember to eat too! Hope it all kicks off properly for you soon.

Harecare · 11/05/2012 22:10

After quite a sleepy day and being utterly bored of myself I've been ironing since about 8 and getting strong con (ow! That was one) tractions about every 7 - 10 mins.
12/05/12 would be pretty cool wouldn't it? Wish I'd taken up DMil's offer of taking the girls again tonight.
So Mythical - Get sleep while you can only get active when you've got some energy.
Looking forward to not being so obsessed with getting labour started!

LittleSarah · 11/05/2012 23:01

Whoop whoop harecare! Good luck! 12/05/12 is a very cool date indeed.

tostaky · 11/05/2012 23:34

Harecare - you make me want to iron!! Good luck! :)

mythical · 12/05/2012 04:40

Just going home from hospital now - they don't think the pains are normal labour contractions - they are too painful in the wrong area (only pelvic area) - they think it's a combination of really bad SPD and contractions - as i've been having them for so long but they are literally doing nothing - still 2 cms. I've been given some codeine and a sleeping pill but as the baby is happy they won't do anything else..

saggybaps · 12/05/2012 04:58

He's here! The stretch & sweep worked. Delivered our little boy at 1539 & was in the car heading home at 7pm!

Not sure how heavy he is as we were both in a bit of a daze, but a good 2lb heavier than dd1. No name as yet.

harecare & mythical sending labour vibes in your direction!

Newtothisstuff · 12/05/2012 05:27

Congratulations GrinGrinGrin how exciting

Mythical... Sad how rubbish, hope you manage to get some sleep, xxx

SESthebrave · 12/05/2012 08:35

Congratulations saggybaps :)
How wonderful go be home again so soon afterwards. Looking forward to hearing more!

Mythical - sorry, you must be v frustrated but your LO will be here soon.

Harecare - hope all going well. 12/05/12 would be cool. DS is 09/05/09 Grin

DS was awake at 5.05am this morning - Grr!! Not much chance of a nap today as I've agreed to take him to Rugbytots this morning instead of DH so that DH can get on with some jobs as this afternoon I'm leaving DS with him whilst I head off to a MN meet up in Brighton :)
I'll probably fall asleep tonight whilst trying to watch BGT final! Then tomorrow we've got DS's birthday party with about twelve 2-3yos round at our place for a Jo Jingles party. I'm hoping the weather will stay nice so they can be out in the garden for Jo Jingles music and party tea!

Bodeccia · 12/05/2012 08:53

Thanks Congratulations saggybaps! Delighted it all went well for you :)Thanks

mythical: you must be so sick of the sight of that hospital. Really feel for you.

Thank goodness the sun is out today Grin

ballroompink · 12/05/2012 09:01

Congrats, saggybaps! Glad it went well :) mythical, sorry it's all so frustrating, hopefully things will get going soon.

I'm another one hoping to avoid induction, probably because one of my friends had one a couple of weeks ago and ended up having a horrible birth experience. She was on a drip though.

Had a crap night's sleep - wriggly baby plus loads of uncomfortable BH, which are continuing this morning. Time for a bath!

mythical · 12/05/2012 09:57

Sleeping pill didn't work - it just made my chest feel tight - I fell asleep for 10 min only to be woken up (by myself) screaming in pain so I left for the bath at around 6 30 so at least my dh can get some sleep. Still getting them every 10 minutes or so. They aren't doing anything towards actual labour they just got so bad and agonizing and I am so tired and distressed been sobbing since 6 I just don't know what to do. Lying/sitting makes them worse but I haven't got enough energy to walk around anymore..

LittleSarah · 12/05/2012 11:18

Congratulations saggy!! Fab news! Looking forward to hearing more when everything calms down.

Mythical - Poor poor you, sounds like you are having a dreadful time. I really hope things get better soon.

ballroom - With you on the rubbish sleep. Am up loads peeing again plus muscle pain in the bump... argh.

mythical · 12/05/2012 13:23

Well.. I came in to be monitored... They were being a bit yeah we usually reserve strong painkillers for when ur in labour blabla ok fine - I get examined ...oh! Ur 6 cms...!!
Currently off my face on diamorphine so might not make much sense

dreamingofanallotment · 12/05/2012 13:38

Fab news mythical, glad things have progressed and that you've got some pain relief. Here's hoping for a 12/5/12 baby for you!!

Newtothisstuff · 12/05/2012 13:55

Grin brilliant news mythical.. Eeeeek so exciting !!

It's sunny here today. Even makes grumpy me feel a little bit more cheerful
I'm getting so fed up now, been getting about 3 hours sleep a night I just can't get comfortable, my whole body hurts.
I was online food shopping at 3.30am this morning. Good news is I've got 3 days to go. DH has been on his rest days off work since Friday and DD1 is with her Disney daddy so we've spent a nice couple of days chilling out, he's back at work tomorrow and Monday so it's going to drag big time !!
Hope you are all feel ok Grin

LittleSarah · 12/05/2012 16:51

Woo hoo mythical!

new - know what you mean about the grumpy. I just feel low grade irritated all the time at the mo...

Cewafwb · 12/05/2012 17:02

Word of advice - do NOT go to Legoland with three small boys when you are due to have number 4 in 5 days time! Six hours of walking and going on rides - SUCH FUN at the beginning, SO NOT by the end. I am KNACKERED, POOPED and EXHAUSTED all at the same time. DH now mowing the lawn - feel bad even being on here, must keep going. Think I have a cold too - or v nasty hayfever - not sure which is worth hoping for more. Bad timing either way. Well done to those that have had and to those that are having - keep going! x

bonbonpixie · 12/05/2012 20:07

Hi everyone! Baby Cameron (little girl) arrived this afternoon after a 6 hour labour unfortunately required forceps and now bleeding quite a bit but feeling positive!

Good luck everyone!!

LimeFlower · 12/05/2012 20:17

Congratulations saggybaps and bonbonpixie hope both of you will recover very soon :)

mythical and harecare go,go,go girls :)

another silly question-is BH a kind of "belly tightening"?i don't know how to describe it,it just goes very hard.

scrubbed the floor in the kitchen on all fours (as advised by mw)to encourage the baby to move position-not a fat chance, still laying back to back.

got a pineapple for myself but too frightened to eat it as i don't want to pop too early.made a curry for my DH,refused to eat it myself...

Congratulations bonbonpixie:)

mythical - glad things have progressed and hope you are cuddling your LO soon.

cewafwb - I'm not surprised you're feeling a bit worse for wear! Take it easy!

Limeflower - I also think I've been getting BH over the last few days. Today accompanied by back pain Hmm
To me it kind of feels like my bump is going more solid because the baby is moving to be as wide as possible IYKWIM. Baby probably isn't doing anything of the mind - I reckon it's BH...

tostaky · 12/05/2012 22:29

Congrats to saggybaps and bonbon!!! Grin

Good luck hare care & mythical!!

Just got back from a nice dinner in a nice restaurant but oh, my bump hurt!! So much I thought that maybe I was having contractions but no... It was just baby taking a revenge...
