Hello :)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
dreamfeeder · 21/10/2011 22:27

biscuits, i texted my normally mobile-phone-averse DH her symptoms and he rang me (unheard of!) from the middle of his surgery to say what was her temp (err, you've got our only thermometer at work, dear...) and yes, take her. He checked her when he got home too including ears and throat again (poor child) looking for a source of infection but he agreed nothing. She does have a slightly runny nose though. Just keeping an eye on her, but it is unlikely to be anything other than a virus. today the GP said it is normal to have some peripheral shutdown (ie cold extremeties) with many viral illnesses with babies. I hadn't heard that before. Prob would have taken her even with hindsight though.

Good luck pomme, sleep on it and see what you think in the morning. I didn;t think you need a blood test unless there was a query- is it not on one of the tests they do at your booking in? Or is that immunity to rubella? I haven't had it! The test I mean, I had chicken pox age 3 Smile

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 22/10/2011 00:23

Hi preggos! Just wanted to send some positive thoughts to Pomme. it sounds as though overall your scan went well, but it's frustrating to come away with a new fear. I will be No Brooking that miniPomme has a growth spurt soon!

Also, I do think you're meant to go in for a chicken pox immunity blood test if you're exposed to the virus at all. I was looking into this because I've never had the illness, and in the end I just requested the test upfront as part of my booking in blood tests. It's not a routine test though, but I think if you're at all concerned you've been near a contagious child you should call your mw and ask for the test. If it's worrying you.

Too I've been sooooo tempted to get a doppler! I had no idea they were so cheap! Pretty please let us know what you think of it when it arrives, I may be copying you shortly if you think it's any good!

Dream I hope your DD feels better soon. Poor her, and poor you (for all the worry/stress!) it's always better to be too vigilant rather than too laid back! I'd rather go to the GP ten unnecessary times than miss one real concern!

I'm sorry I'm sure there were more people I wanted to respond to but my migraines have been out of control today (exacerbated by the extensive puking session I had just before heading to bed) and I literally cannot look at my phone screen any longer!

Goodnight!

Biscuitsandtea · 22/10/2011 07:09

Oh Scream you poor thing - migraines AND puking SadSad

Hope you feel better soon xx

Hope everyone else is ok xx

dreamfeeder · 22/10/2011 10:09

Morning all! It's been morning for me since about 2 am when Dh handed dd over... So tired with night 4 of very little sleep. Dd has a temp of 40.1, cold feet and still not standing/lethargic. Dh has her naked and calpoled now. Waiting to try and get a urine sample. I have tempted her to drink with pure apple juice ( she couldn't resist, that's not normally allowed!) And she has been bf.

too I still have an upset stomach, 9 weeks on... 9 weeks of the runs!!! Seems unfair but not the cause of my cramps. Hope your doppler arrives today. My last pg the mw made a big fuss about don't try and use one yourself- why's that? It might have been in case you couldn't find the heartbeat, and because if you did you wouldn't know if there was a problem with it??? I'd never be sure I'd found both so not much use to me I think.

dreamfeeder · 22/10/2011 11:41

Hooray, dd has perked up a bit! She even walked across the room and is reading a book with daddy now. We had an emergency bath after explosive diarrhoea but she seems much more cheerful since then. Grin I'm so relieved.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 22/10/2011 12:28

Hooray for Dream's DD feeling better!

My migraine hasn't gone anywhere (poor DH is cooped up in a dark house with me with every curtain drawn!). However I got my combined test results, 1:2600! Sooooo happy!

Hope you all get a chance to enjoy the sunshine!

pommedechocolat · 22/10/2011 13:00

Yay for dream's dd and yay for scream!

I am feeling a lot more logical this am. They put me forward 5/6 days at the 12 week scan and were measuring against that yesterday. Those 5/6 days definitely don't exist so I think the measurements would look different against the real dates.

dreamfeeder · 22/10/2011 13:44

Oh scream, shame to be incapacitated with a migraine on a sunny day (well, here anyway) but great about your test results. definitely not cross again about my lack of option

DD is asleep- in her cot. Bliss. I'm being sick. And complaining of tiredness more than is necessary to DH.

Good point pomme They put my friend back a week or so at her dating scan, which she said was impossible as when she'd have had to have concieved her and DH were ill and there was no DTD full stop and so when her DD was born, apparantly 'early' the mw's were surprised she was wrinkly and clearly overdue... duh. My friend wasn't!!! I'm sure you're right, and your consultant will put your mind at rest in 4 weeks too.

scarletfingernail · 22/10/2011 14:06

pomme that would make sense. That's got to be the reason. If you added that time back on and looked at the chart that's got to make a big difference surely? So pleased you've come up with an explanation.

dream sorry to hear your DD's been unwell but hopefully she's on the mend now.

scream great to hear you got your results back and you're low risk. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Good news from me today too. I've had my results back from the NT screening which are also showing as low risk. Biscuits the same as you, I didn't get a number just "low risk" written. I think you can request the actual results from the community midwife but I probably won't, low risk is good enough for me.

scarletfingernail · 22/10/2011 14:15

Should have said the combined screening rather than just NT, but you all know what I meant.

Biscuitsandtea · 22/10/2011 18:59

Pomme that makes a lot of sense if your dates are out. If you're worried though still you could always talk to your mw about it?

Dream hope your DD is doing better today, poor little poppet xx

Scarlet great news on your combined screening result! :) I also didn't bother to find out the actual numbers. As you say 'low' will do!

Well, my bump has been achey again today but less 'crampy period type pains' and more stretchy aches further up so I am hoping it was all just a bit of growing. It's 2 weeks since I've seen my mum and she was like 'wow - where did that come from when she saw me, so I'm guessing it must have done a bit of growing Confused. Either that or my mum really didn't pay attention in biology at school, and indeed throughout her own two pregnancies......

How is everyone else?

dreamfeeder · 22/10/2011 22:07

We're just back from the out of hours gp. Dd is really grotty, temp of 39 after calpol and nurofen, still lethargic and not eating or drinking. I really wasn't convinced. The out of hours gp said her throat was red and put that as tthe source of infection and gave antibiotics. Seriously?! A mildly red throat (that's all Dh says it is) that he and her gp yesterday thought was fine has put her temp that high, had her off her feet for all bar one hour today and lethargic and not eating and drinking?! And that that wouldn't be viral and would need antibiotics... This gp better be right... I'm exhausted, and worried and argued with Dh and hope dd has a better night or I actually don't know how I'll cope tomorrow!!!!

Sorry for the me me me post, can you tell I'm feeling sorry for myself?! More than anything I think i need some sleep....

Biscuitsandtea · 23/10/2011 06:34

Gosh Dream I hope she starts to perk up. In just trying to remember what was eventually wrong with ds when he had his mad dash in the ambulance and I think that was either an ear or throat infection but don't think it ever resulted in antibiotics, so can't have been that bad an infection.

But his temp wasn't up for nearly as long and it reacted to calpol type stuff.

So that's an irrelevant point actually, sorry SadBlush

I hope you've had an ok night and her temperature is starting to come down. Xx

BartletForAmerica · 23/10/2011 07:24

Good morning!

Dream, I do hope your DD gets better soon and that the antibiotics are what's needed now.

scream, glad your results have come back as low risk.

pomme, if you've been someone with chickenpox or who has just gone on to develop chickenpox (it is infectious from about 2 days before the spots to 5 days after) and you have not had chickenpox, it is really easy to check if you are immune with a blood test, but it should be done as quickly as possible as if you don't have immunity, you'll need to be vaccinated. (If you have, they don't worry about it as it is really rare not to develop immunity, but speak to your midwife if you are worried.)

too, the flu vaccine is for all trimesters this time. Normally I get one for work anyway and normally end up with a sore arm, but no symptoms this time at all!

I'm still feeling a bit rubbish, but I feel much better if I don't take my tablets straightaway and throw up first thing. Lovely! Hmm DH is being an absolute star and is doing so much to keep me, DS and the house going while I spend a lot of time sleeping.

DizzyKipper · 23/10/2011 07:44

Hello all

Sorry I've not been around much, I've been finding it hard to find the time as I've been so busy (and only just realised perhaps I should try and get updated here before I get updated with the conception brookers who are very chatty indeed).

Anyway I hope your DD is feeling better today dream and also that you managed to get some sleep last night! Also sorry to hear that you and biscuits have been having painful cramps - I'm Brooking for you that it's just ligament stretching.

Scream I hope your migraine has gone now - migraines and puking just isn't fair.

scarlet glad your results came back ok.

Wants3 · 23/10/2011 10:43

Brrr! Morning all, I have another day of no heating and hot water! Not sure when a plumber can come either( def not today) need to get the slanket out. Unfortunately little wants is not big enough to provide any internal heating yet!
Might be seeing my older sister today so will tell her about pg, I don't see her very often so perfect opportunity. DH is a bit miffed as he hasn't told any of his family yet! ( we are having family lunch next weekend)

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 23/10/2011 10:56

Morning all! My migraine has subsided to a dull headache following a day spent hiding in the dark and drinking my bodyweight in fluids! I desperately want to go out and buy maternity clothes but I can't face the migraine coming back, so I might have to leave that for thurs night shopping.

Wants how exciting to tell your sis! Telling family is the BEST! Hope you have a good day.

I just want to second Bartlet on the flu jab front, and say I didn't have any symptoms either. Obviously there was a little bruise for a couple of days, which only hurt when i forgot all about it and leaned against a wall (d'oh!) but nothing else.

Also glad Bartlet's DH is being so lovely. Is there any chance he could give my DH a call?!

Dream I really hope your DD reacted well to the antibiotics, and you both got some sleep last night. Poor little thing. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for a swift return to health!

Biscuitsandtea · 23/10/2011 11:03

Scream glad your migraine is on the way out. Hope you get out to the shops soon for your maternity clothes :) Where are you thinking of looking?

Also seconding, or thirding or whatever the no side effects from the flu jab - just a bruise on my arm for a few days, which only really hurt if I rolled on it at night etc. But really not bad. I have a much more painful bruise on my leg at the moment from walking into the dining table which is right at DS's height so he keeps running into it - ouch!

Hope everyone else is good xx

Wants3 · 23/10/2011 11:35

Glad to hear that things are getting better for people. On the flu jab front, I had a sore arm on the first day and then runny nose and headache on the 3 rd day ( may have just been coincidence!) but that only lasted until lunchtime.
Quick query- I have just hoovered the whole house, 3bed bungalow so not huge, and noticed my belly felt quite hard afterwards, should I be concerned?

NinjaChipmunk · 23/10/2011 11:58

just a quick post and run from me today.

dream could it be tonsilitis? Ds had it when he was about 8 months I think and was acting in quite a similar way. wouldn't eat or drink, just whimpered a lot and stayed really hot even with medicine. We ended up in a&e as we just didn't know what to do. I do recall him vomiting down the front of the nurse who tried to look at his throat with one of those lolly stick type things. I hope she feels better soon poor love and the anti b's kick in soon. Temps are ALWAYS worse at night ime. Try to keep her hydrated, little and often as I'm sure you already know.

will try to catch up with the thread later but have a billion jobs to do today so better skidaddle.

musicalmrs · 23/10/2011 13:11

Glad to hear the flu jab hasn't given most of you many side effects. I've always been prone to getting ALL the possible effects in the past, no matter which jab I was having... but fingers crossed this time will be different! Will call them tomorrow afternoon if I haven't heard from them by then. Will also call the midewifery service here, and double check about the booking in appointment - they've already taken my booking in bloods (three weeks ago!), so I presumed the appointment would follow quite quickly!

dream, hope the antibiotics have worked, and that DD is feeling much better.

Feeling pretty tired today, and a busy afternoon/evening - meeting up with two groups of friends, then a wedding reception in the evening. Feeling very achey, especially bump wise - stretching pains maybe? Particularly uncomfortable in the evening, so hoping it'll be ok tonight...!

dreamfeeder · 23/10/2011 13:50

hello all,
glad to hear the migraine is gone scream. Quite jealous of your getting to shop for maternity clothes you like!!! I will continue wearing hand me downs- when I start wearing them this time. 14+3 and the size of 20 weeks... I wore my own jeans to 27 weeks last time, but I swopped tops at about 20 weeks I think to preserve my own from getting stretched, so maybe I should think about it now!!!! Unfortunately most of my stuff is summery- good excuse to buy a couple of long sleeve tops I think! Though I should ask my friend who's just had a April baby, she must have some. Hmm. Maybe I STILL won't get to choose my own!!!

yeah, my DH is nothing like bartlets, no concessions for vomiting or exhaustion in pregnancy here- or very minimal...! AN hour minding he conssiders doing enough to help! He did vacuum this morning, but thats because DD won't be put down, by mummy only, daddy can't carry her, that won't do.

DD's temp is finally down. We decided not to give antibiotics- her throat is mildly red, her tonsils are not even slightly red, and certainly no white bits on them. A good choice as she is improving without them. We were really worried overnight, especially at about 5am when she was roasting and working hard with her breathing, but by 10am she finally started to improve. Such a relief. Grin Grin Grin She doesn't agree with drinking little and often, or much at all in fact. And eating is for when yo're better it seems, but overall, it's going the right way now.

dreamfeeder · 23/10/2011 20:05

Hope you have a good scan tomorrow hawthers, will Brook No Argument for you xx

Biscuitsandtea · 23/10/2011 20:09

Brooking like mad for Hawthers - come on baby Hawthers - grow!!! One last spurt before tomorrow.....

Glad your dd is feeling better Dream

Hello to everyone else

Mwah mwah

DizzyKipper · 23/10/2011 20:19

That sounds frustrating Wants, how many days has it been so far without heating or hot water?

Good to hear your migraine's going Scream. How many weeks are you now?

Glad to hear your DD is on the mend dream.

Currently debating what to do over a smear test. I had one back in April that showed CN1, so they wanted me to have another one done right about now, but then they do recommend not to have the smear test done when pregnant and I don't want to do anything that could harm the baby. I really don't like the idea of them taking another biopsy if it looks abnormal (bit concerned about what cutting into the cervix could do early in pregnancy!) Am I being irrational? Is it likely to do that much harm?
