Hello :)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
dreamfeeder · 23/10/2011 20:19

she's better than yesterday thanks, but any tips for how to get calpol/ nurofen down her neck appreciated. Have tried distraction, letting her hold syringe, us pretending to have it first, 2 people man-handling her and trying to squirt it into her mouth (she gets hysterical and spits it out)... Put her to bed with a temp of 38.4 again... God help me if we give her the antibiotics in desperation, but I can't see it would help.

dreamfeeder · 23/10/2011 20:21

ooh, dizzy, no idea, sorry...

Biscuitsandtea · 23/10/2011 20:25

Could you mix it in to a yogurt or something? DS is normally ok with calpol but hates any anti'b's and I have resorted to that in the past (on the advice of a nurse friend). I think though that there are some things you can mix and it is ok, other things you can't - perhaps your DH could advise if it would be ok? Also, if it was ok then you're getting a yogurt down her too which might help if she isn't eating or drinking much? I always think yogurts slightly tick the food and drink boxes Smile

Have you tried a spoon? We generally used the syringes when DS was the age of your DD but it might be worth a try?

Biscuitsandtea · 23/10/2011 20:25

Dizzy no idea on the smear hong to be honest other than phoning and asking what they recommend?

Biscuitsandtea · 23/10/2011 20:28

'hong'? Hmm that would be thing....

scarletfingernail · 23/10/2011 21:20

Sorry dizzy no idea about the smear. I assumed you couldn't have one while pg, but don't know if your circumstances would mean they'd make an exception. I'd book in with my GP if it were me I think, see what their thoughts are.

dream try mixing with some fruit puree. DS is fine with calpol and nurofen but goes beserk at the sight of pennicillin. When all else has failed I've resorted to mixing with chocolate mousse. That always works.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 23/10/2011 22:53

Lots of last min No Brooking going on at my end too, for Hawthers' scan tom.

Unfortunately I can't offer anything useful to Dream on the medicine front, or Dizzy on the smear front. I hope you both find the answers soon though!

Also Dizzy, in response to your q, I'm now 13 weeks. That's not going to help me on the migraine front though, because apparently migraines are usually a late pg problem. The NHS mw was very surprised I'm already getting them so early on. It all points towards the grim possibility that the migraines are here to stay to the bitter end. Sigh. For the first time EVER I'm dying for the clocks to change so that my journeys both to and from work will be in the dark. How wrong is it to look forward to that?!?!

Goodnight ladies!

pommedechocolat · 24/10/2011 09:39

dizzy - I was due a smear when pg with dd and they put it back to 2 months post birth. It was a normal one though not a recommended early one which may change things? I reckon they'll tell you to do it post birth personally.

Scream - Pants. Poor you. Hugs, pork pies and brooking for the migraines to buggar off!

hawthers · 24/10/2011 09:57

well the brooking seems to be farily successful as i'm feeling the most calm about today's scan.

It also helps that i am absolutely massive (compared to last time), ache like nothing else and have a regular mexican wave effect going on in my bump.

the only kicks i felt with DS were ones the strength of a 26 weeker (which was the size he was). this is like there is a small bikram yoga specialist in my bump who would like to showcase all their moves!

scan at 13.00 so will pop back and update when i have confirmation that little hawthers is a plump little fellow/fellowess (how's that for positive thinking!)

brooking for all others who need it scream dream's dd dizzy wants' plumper get your finger out!

Purplebuns · 24/10/2011 10:20

Hi, everyone.

I hope your scan goes well Hawthers I know it will Wink glad your feeling positive.
Dizzy Sorry I don't know about smears as haven't had one yet.
Dream at one point DD had a nasty virus with her skin going grey and her limbs going purple! I took her to the Drs who were remarkably not bothered [hhmm] Anyway as she was taking Ibuprofen and Calpol round the clock she started to refuse it, in the end I had to hold her head back and squirt it down her throat, extreme but she did start taking it again after a couple of times of this!

Can your DD take Ibuprofen as the calpol version comes in apple flavour I think it was, which might get her to take it? Or try a different brand of paracetamol suspension might have a different flavour?

I am off to the Dr this afternoon to talk about everything, sigh. I feel like I live down there at the moment the drs are attached to the hospital and I feel I am in and out with physio and gp appts. Still couldn't be more pleased with the NHS, they are really fab!

20+3 weeks which feels so surreal!

I fancy a sausage sandwich but I think cooking it will make me sick, why hasn't this symptom buggered off?

Wants3 · 24/10/2011 10:25

Thanks hawthers I like the idea of a plumper, is that for my cushions as I sit wrapped in my slanket. Heating stopped working Fri night. Fortunately it has been sunny here so hose not arctic yet. It's the cold hair washes I don't like!

Wants3 · 24/10/2011 11:32

Errm, I mean house!

hawthers · 24/10/2011 11:45

oops a plumper sounds fabulous doesn't it - we should all have one!

musicalmrs · 24/10/2011 11:50

Hawthers, brooking for you that your scan will go brilliantly! Will be hovering this afternoon to hear your news.

Dream, my only suggestion would be to mix it in with something else she'll eat and see if it'll go down. I remember helping do this with younger siblings, and have always used the same principle with my cats too..!

Wants, any idea when you'll get the heating fixed? I too would struggle without hot water for my hair - couldn't you mix a kettle of hot water with cold, and wash with that?

Dizzy, when I went on one of my visits to A&E with bleeding, the gynae did what she said was a cervical smear (she was asking if I'd ever had one before). She didn't think I was miscarrying at that point (which was the fear), so she clearly had no concerns in doing it. However, the NHS website says that being pregnant can make the results harder to read, which is why they often suggest pregnant women don't have it? Obviously mine was to test for... well, I don't really know... but wasn't in a normal situation!

Scream, so sorry to hear about the miserable migraines. I used to get one once a month - which was horrendous enough - can't imagine being constantly plagued with them, you poor thing. Maternity clothes shopping sounds exciting though! I've got no recently pregnant friends, so no one to get hand me downs from (except from a step-brother-in-law's partner - phew! - but we rarely see them, and I imagine her clothes are long passed off to someone else!). DH has some days off at the end of this week, so I'm hoping to do an Ebay/shopping blitz then. I think tops will be ok for a while yet, but I'm already struggling with trousers, which is ridiculous as I'm only 11 weeks. Major bloating going on here methinks...

scarletfingernail · 24/10/2011 12:55

More brooking going on here for you hawthers, you don't need it though because it all sounds extremely positive.

Purple did you have to mention sausage sandwich? I now really want one too but the only sausages I have are in the freezer Sad

Wants3 · 24/10/2011 13:53

Yay! Heating seems to be fixed! Looking forward to hot bubbly bath later. ( I have a spare plumper if anyone needs it as I have climbed out of my slanket nest now). waiting for scan news too :)

Wants3 · 24/10/2011 13:58

musical I also am living in trackies and leggings as all my trousers are too uncomfortable now, and I am 10 weeks! Apparently the uterus is the size of a grapefruit now so it's got to go somewhere hence the 'popping out' we are experiencing!

NinjaChipmunk · 24/10/2011 15:42

I'm only 4+3 and I'm mega bloated and already living in leggings and tracky pants! I've been rather windy for nearly 3 weeks now Blush

Only half my central heating works, plumber due to come out on Thursday if dp can't fix it.

best go, the boss is back!

hawthers · 24/10/2011 16:09

Woo hoo

The verdict from the scan is that all is normal!!!

The baby weighs approx 1678g (3lb 11ozs) which is massive for me - nearly twice DS' size. Plus I'm officially 63 mins more pg than I've ever been.

All very positive from the consultant - growth normal, amniotic fluid normal and doppler studies normal. I love normal!

Back in 3 weeks for next scan. Lovely consultant was really reassuring and even discussed birth options. Very happy Hawthers!

Biscuitsandtea · 24/10/2011 16:22

Whoop whoop Hawthers Grin

That's awesome news Grin

So how many weeks are you now?

So happy it all went well GrinGrinGrin

musicalmrs · 24/10/2011 16:30

Yay Hawthers - so pleased it went well! How wonderful it must be for everything to be normal- you can stop worrying (so much!) now! :)

Wants, glad it's not just me! I can fit into a couple of pairs of trousers, but living in leggings/trackies at home, and need to get some more leggings and dresses for work I think.

After worrying a bit about booking in and flu jabs, it has all been sorted today! Midwife called me to arrange a booking in appointment for Sat (yay!), and then told me to insist to the doctors that I be given my flu jab, and that they stopped mucking me around! Tried calling them, but couldn't get through... an hour or so later they rang me, told me I was eligible, and booked it up for the 9th. Yay! I love everything being organised..

LoveInAColdGrave · 24/10/2011 16:35

Fab news, Hawthers!

My 20 week scan tomorrow, where has the time gone!?

jenfraggle · 24/10/2011 16:39

hawthers · 24/10/2011 16:46
