Morning all, just popped in quickly
ravenlocks it is lovely that we are so close in dates - when is your 12 week scan booked for?
tiggers thanks for info about scans at St Mary's - I will arm myself with this knowledge!

tiggersreturn · 07/07/2011 13:47

No self-restraint Ravens. He turned up late for the 20 week scan and I'd told him he couldn't do it unless he found a way to communicate so I'd definitely not know. So neither of us know.

Tinks30 · 07/07/2011 15:33

Can I join you all? Had 12 week scan today. Found out am having mcma. First pregnancy. Absolutely over the moon!! Grin

Hi Tinks congratulations on your exciting news and welcome to the thread!

Thanks quempin for your kind words. To be honest I am freaking out quite a lot as bleeding has carried on for the last 24 hours along with really bad cramps, but they did say to expect more bleeding so am trying to zone it out. You're right it is really common to have bleeding but still feels completely wrong! Anyway, more importantly, hope all well with you and am looking forward to comparing notes over the next months!

Thanks quempin I am feeling much better today. Woke up with no cramps and bleeding stopped, so am having a very positive day! Meant to ask where you are in the Uk - have you decided which hospital you are going to?

PeelingmyselfofftheCeiling · 08/07/2011 18:12

Hey all, just checking in. No news here as I haven't had my 20 week scan yet - bit nervous waiting for it as it seems so serious, and also I haven't had hardly anything in the way of movement. Fingers crossed everything's ok in there.
Any other late-fidgety babies? Or maybe I'm just a bit too well padded...

Hi all and welcome to Tinks!! Big congratulations to you!! Hope you're getting over the shock ... it took us quite a while! Quite a few of us are first timers and feel like they don't have a bloody clue what they're doing so you're not alone.

Sorry to hear you're all feeling so anxious.... I've felt exactly the same pretty much every day of my pregnancy I think. Babies are a worry when they're growing but I'm sure it is nothing compared to what anxiety they'll cause us when they are on the outside!!!

ladybird - so pleased the bleeding and cramping has stopped, that must have been so worrying even if all looked ok on the scan. In regards to the regularity of scans, I would have to agree with you that 4 weeks seems a long time. Without meaning to be scaremongery in anyway, I was scanned every 2 weeks and everything looked fine at 18 weeks and the babies were very poorly indeed with TTTS by 20 weeks - it can come on very quickly evidently. If I were you I would ask your consultant to up the scans to fortnightly and be prepared to fight if they grumble about it. You are your babies' only advocate and if you don't shout a bit then no-one else will.

peeling - I didn't feel any movement at all (not even this 'fluttery' feeling that people bang on about) until 22 weeks so try not to worry about that. When is your 20w scan booked for? When mine did start moving it was quite a lot so there was no mistaking it! I currently have a baby's something-or-other (foot?) kicking against my ribs..... OW. But I wouldn't change it for the world I have to say, I enjoy every wriggle... even the 4am ones.

As for me, I had another growth scan today (at 33+3) and all is looking ok. Babies have both grown in the last fortnight so they are being allowed to stay put for at least another week. My CS has now been booked for 1st August though!! I was told I wouldn't go past 36 weeks but my consultant would like to eeek it out until 36+6 if at all possible - but has put in my notes that I'm for an emergency CS if I go into labour before then. So another 3 weeks cooking for me all being well!

Off to find something to eat ... what I really want is some kind of giant cake, but I will have to eat something healthy as I only had cream cheese on toast, a bag of crisps and a large slice of choccy fudge cake for lunch!!

Tinks30 · 08/07/2011 22:21

Hi All. Having very anxious night. Been scaring myself shitless by reading stuff on the Internet about mcma twins - am now banned from google. So have gone from being elated to panic/grief stricken. Are there are mcma mummies out there???Sad

MrsStevo · 08/07/2011 23:18

Hi Tinks. So sorry that you're having an anxious night. Google is just the worst for scaremongering. I have very little knowledge of mcma twins so can't help at all, but have you had a look on the Tamba website? www.tamba.org.uk. There are loads of message boards and stuff on that and there's bound to be one for people who have had / are having mcma babies. Thinking of you x x

Hi Quempin, I have an appt at the neonatal unit at kings college in London on Tuesday then a follow up at my home hospital onthe weds so I can't fault the hospitals because they have been all over this from the moment I had my scan on Thursday. I also read about lots of women being told they were having mcma twins to find out later there was a membrane and actually that's why I'm going to kings so they can double check. Xxx

Tinks30 · 09/07/2011 08:31

Oh and my midwife is popping in today too

ladybird33 · 09/07/2011 09:50

Hi everyone,

MrsStevo I'm so pleased your scan went well. That is brilliant that your consultant thinks the babies can stay in and cook for a bit longer! They are obviously doing really well! Did they say to you all along that you would probably be given a c-section at 36 weeks, or was it only after the TTTS? Just trying to work out if that is hospital policy....Giant cakes essential in late stages of pregnancy I think - I read that you need an extra 600 calories a day towards the end with twins?!! Thanks so much for the advice about the scans - I will definitely insist on scans every 2 weeks and not leave the hospital until they agree to it!!

Tinks I'm sorry that you have been freaked out by Google. I would completely agree with the advice from the other ladies. It sounds like you are being taken care of very well by your mw and doctors and I have heard only amazing things about kings college hospital. I was disappointed to find out that we weren't in catchment for it! If I were in your position that is the only place I would want to go. They have amazing equipment which will hopefully be able to give you a definitive answer about the mcma question. I hope you manage to find time to rest and unwind over the weekend. I know your brain must be buzzing with all the info, but you must try to zone out for a bit if you can! x

Hope everyone has a nice weekend :). Am starting to feel a bit nervous about my 12 week scan on Thursday so am willing time to go as quickly as possible - if only it was Monday already!

MrsStevo · 10/07/2011 17:47

Hi Ladies!

How are you feeling tinks? So pleased you've got an appt at Kings on Tuesday - I've heard nothing but great things about that place and they'll be able to put your mind at rest I'm sure. How did you get on with your midwife popping in? Keep us posted on how you get on, I'll be thinking of you.

ladybird - they only started talking about delivery and made the decision to have a CS at 36w after the TTTS. Friends of ours had a straightforward MCDA pregnancy and she was induced at 38 weeks - but ended up having a CS anyway as one of the babies decided to try and clamber out ear first. It is only the TTTS that has required me to have a CS, else I'd have opted for a natural birth. Good luck for Thursday's scan!! Let us know how it goes, Ill be thinking of you too! Think it was my 12 week scan where I got the MOST amazing pic of our babies (think it might be on my profile page) - they look as though they are lying in bunkbeds!

Not sure about this 600 extra calories a day business .... I'm prob eating an extra 2000 at the moment - only to ensure that the babies get fattened up, you understand! Grin

Knackered at the moment! DH and I started a slow walk into town this afternoon and I got about 10 metres from the house and had to turn back ... so we drove in, had lunch and an ice cream, and then drove back!!

Hope you're all well x x

tiggersreturn · 10/07/2011 20:58

Tinks if you search on mn you'll find some positive mcma threads.

ladybird33 · 10/07/2011 21:04

Hi everyone,

MrsS thanks for the info about your CS. Sorry for all my questions! I am desperate to find out what the deal is at my hospital, but I don't think I'll see the consultant for a while. I was meant to have an appointment with him next week, but he is on holiday so I'll see one of his team, but I'm not sure they'll know the deal with MCDA twins and they need to refer me to the specialist twins consultant anyway so I dread to think how long that will take! I'll let you know how the scan goes - I'm strangely calm about it at the moment (very unlike me) although I'm sure I won't get much sleep on Wednesday night! I absolutely LOVE that brilliant photo of your babies at your scan - amazing, I've never seen one like that! Also love the driving to town story - at least you have an excuse you are 33 weeks pg!! We took DS to the fair this afternoon and after 5 minutes of walking around I had to sit down! It is these stupid cramps - which I think are just really bad round ligament pains - different every day, today like someone is giving me really sharp pinches on my cervix. Nice. Hopefully it just means everything is stretching nicely to make room for 2 of them....

Tinks do let us know how you're getting on. x

Tinks30 · 11/07/2011 10:17

Hi All,

I'm feeling so reassured after reading everyone's comments about Kings. Even my midwife told me I was going to be in the best hands.
Midwife appt didn't go so well. I don't know I just found her to be a bit harsh with me. She started talking about mummy mortality (!) and when I explained to her what MCMA was (she didn't know!) she just had this look of horror on her face which I thought she could have concealed. Maybe I am just feeling over sensitive at the moment but I really felt like she was being completely insensitive.

Luckily I won't ever have to see her again because I will be under the care of consultants from now on.

Thanks so much everyone for watching out for me :) I do feel a bit alone at the moment. My partner is great, he is trying to be strong for us both. Am now banned from looking at google and actually I have been feeling better.

Tinks xxx

Tinks - I hope there are no mws on this thread but with very few exceptions I've found most of them misinformed, judgmental and rigidly set on varying things. I'm not sure a lot of junior doctors are much better but they at least respond to somethings instead of just shutting down.

My first and only mw appt for this pg (booking in) had the mw tell me that there's no way I would be bfeeding twins since I have type 1 diabetes. I mentioned that while I was prepared to take things as they come I'd bfed my son until he was 11 1/2 months so didn't see why I couldn't try this time. "Oh well you might manage then" was the ungracious response.

Good luck with Kings. It's meant to be really good especially for twins and I think quite a few ladies on this thread are there - Silver?

overtheseaandfaraway · 11/07/2011 17:08

Hi, can I join? We just found out that we'll be having twin girls last wednesday, on my 20 week scan. They missed it at the first one..
Excited but also slightly nervous, since we moved to the States and all of my family is far far away. And kind of wondering how I'll manage with 2 newborns and a toddler.. So any and all advice is welcome!

ladybird33 · 11/07/2011 18:11

Tinks I am very pleased for you that you won't be seeing that midwife again. The mw at my booking in appointment also didn't have a clue about twins, which is not very reassuring when you have so many questions. I am waiting to be transferred to a midwife team who specialise in identical twins but no idea how long that will take... You will be in really good hands if you have a consultant from now on! I really hope that your scan goes well at Kings tomorrow. Let us know how you get on! x

overthesea welcome to the thread and congratulations!! Do you mean that they missed the fact that you were having twins at your first scan, or just the sex of them?! I really feel for you being far away, hopefully this thread can offer you some support and reassurance from the UK!
