Our old thread ran out of space! The horror!

  1. sorry, i don't know :( I have had success with gaviscon and settler's heartburn ease so far. (except yesterday I had to lie flat for a while to stretch myself out while the tablets did their thing. that took about an hour!)

  2. If the mattress looks and smells okay, it probably is okay.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 31/05/2011 16:32

Vallinna you could try peppermint tea, love hearts (I've heard TTL bang on about them several times after a recommendation on the June thread), milk. My sister has really bad reflux (and isn't pg) and takes someting I've forgotten the name of, but will let you know if I remember. This week my reflux has kicked up a notch (or 3) and am now on 2 large spoonfuls of gaviscon just for some short term relief. I hope Currant Bun drops soon.

If you feel happy to use the mattress your friend gave you, it sounds like it would be alright. We her boys in the basket for long? Otherwise they don't cost a lot to replace.

Saw the MW this afternoon. All looking good and if I haven't popped by the next appt in 3 weeks I'll be offered a sweep! Ekk. LO isn't allowed to come before the weekend (getting the last couple of things, eg moses basket, on Thursday), but after that I'm already for it Grin Ekkk!

Baby2b · 31/05/2011 16:58

Val, you can get gaviscon on prescription to save your pennies. I have been suffering really bad for the last 5 days with this. Seen midwife today and she advised sitting as straight as possible and sleeping very propped up. Try to avoid any greasy food. At pg yoga I was shown a couple of stretches that really help. Might be worth a google as hard to explain :)

28 week app went well today. Bloods taken and strong heartbeat from a wriggly little one. Had to have my anti d injection though and it really hurts. Midwife is booking me in for scan at 36 weeks to check placenta isn't causing obstruction. All in all a good app, with a fab midwife.

Katee, really pleased your scan went well :) Coaf, not long now! Very jealous.

Oh, as for the Moses basket I would def get a new mattress. I have read in lots of places its ok to use second hand cots and cribs, but not the mattress.

Baby2b · 31/05/2011 17:01
  • meant doctors Katee. Look forward to hearing about your scan :)
vallinnapod · 31/05/2011 18:26

Thanks for the tips lovelies - especially for legitimising scoffing Love Hearts Grin

Can midwives prescribed Gav or will I have to have a trip to the GP?

COAAF - your due date seems to have snuck up! Well, for me any way - I can imagine for you it hasn't really!!

Dynababy · 31/05/2011 19:33

Katee glad to see your LO has an appreciation of music .. we've discovered ours loves base.... Was in the car and Dizzee Rascal Bonkers came on - OMG did bean love it - he went well...bonkers!!

Valinna agree with baby2b in that everyone always says for health and safety to get a new matress, JL sell em for not much £ and for peace of mind alone it would be worth it.

Also suffering bad heartburn here but nothing the vile Gaviscon can't sort out.. hope you find something to ease the pain Val.

COAFF Can't belive you are sooo close now - another viroid baby en route quick smart - how exciting. Hopefully sweep will not be required!

Baby2b and Katee glad appts went well for you!

I'm now 33 weeks and regretting working until 37 ... its seems such a looong time until I go off and getting uncomfortable and very tired now... I also had to abandon a shopping trip yesterday due to painful bump and back .. I think it was pretty bad Braxton Hicks but not sure .. anyway took my breath away .. will not be shopping on my own again anytime soon anyway Confused

Baby2b · 31/05/2011 20:17

My midwife can't prescribe was told to speak to gp if needed some Vallinna.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 01/06/2011 11:05

Not to quick smart please! And remember BB with her twins could go early and TTL is only a week behind me. .

Am just waiting for the first batch of mini carrot cakes to finish cooking. They smell YUM.

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 01/06/2011 12:20

Well last night was fun (not!)

Went to bed as usual, then woke up about 1 with stomach ache/indigestion - wasn't sure what, so sat up and had a couple of antacids which did nothing, my boobs were huge and heavy and the bit behind and underneath started hurting, so woke DP up. Cue 2 hours of walking from bedroom to bathroom with the pain getting worse. I ended up being violently sick then curled up on the bed with DP ringing for an ambulance as I was in so much pain, eek. Very scary. Of course during the course of the phonecall it then just went, completely.

Rang the mw this morning and she said to go to docs, saw the nurse practitioner and she said its either a bug or mammoth baby (not that its THAT big from the scan!!) pushing my stomach up. Whatever the cause, not feeling too clever today, so stopping at home with DP. Confused

Mini carrot cakes sound yum indeed COAAF!Smile

nickelbabe · 01/06/2011 14:07

Katee, I hope it's nothing major and you'll be better in a day or so.
rest up and take it easy.

Dynababy · 01/06/2011 20:56

Katee poor you - hope you don't have a repeat performance of that sounds very scary indeed. Hopefully a bug that passes v quickly

COAFF your next on the list - no hiding Grin ..

takethatlady · 02/06/2011 10:12

Jealous you're going to the ballet katee :) I love it :)

Oh vallinna I sympathise. DH and I are always doing stuff like that. DH locked me in the house once when I had one of the worst hangovers of my life, and we had no food or drink - not even bread or milk. I spent 8 hours drinking tap water and trying not to die Grin. And coaaf is right about the love hearts (both that they work and that I'm always banging on about them now Grin)

I asked a similar question on the June thread about mattresses/donated moses baskets as my step-mum gave us her old moses basket, all washed and re-decorated and lovely, but I think it has an old mattress (can't be sure). Not sure if they were being over-cautious but everybody there said change the mattress for each new child ...

confessions I think you're going to beat me if you have that sweep Grin. Had a scan yesterday and the baby is back to back and not engaged at all. I know she could engage and turn during labour but it seems like she's pretty happily just meandering about in there and not doing much to prepare for the birth!

Oh katee I hope you're okay today. Sometimes these things are just weird one-offs and I hope that's the same for you.

Went to see Take That in Sunderland on Tuesday. Got put in the press box because I'm pregnant (or, as the man put it, 'disabled' Hmm!!!). Then saw loads of other pregnant people go by who didn't get spotted by the stewards and therefore had no special treatment. Weird, but I'm not complaining! They were amazing. I am so glad I went or I'd regret it forever. And luckily the bump was silent during the Pet Shop Boys and bouncing about with gay abandon during TT :)

We had to get from Sunderland to Cambridge by 9am the next morning though, so we could be here in time for the men who were replacing our windows. Sunderland is a bloody long way from Cambridge, so DH and I spent the day recovering. Still a bit knackered and I have a speed awareness course today. Also have a bruise on my head as DH accidentally hit me with a curtain pole. Bruised, battered, pregnant and speeding ... oh dear.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 02/06/2011 10:13

Hope you had a better night Katee.

You're right I can't hide, I don't fit in any of the good hiding places anymore. Grin

I'm procrastinating massively. Could and should be doing lots of things right now (not least playing with DS Blush), but it's to much effort.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 02/06/2011 10:16

I felt all funny after she mentioned the sweep. So think I'll be giving it a miss. Esp after talk of it on the June thread that day. Seems no point if nothing is happening in there. (PS B2B a sweep is a finger up the fanjo to sweep away the membranes )

Baby2b · 02/06/2011 11:13

katee hope you felt better last night, what a horrid scare for you.

ttl glad u enjoyed the concert Envy

Coaf yay to chat about cakes, boo to chat about a sweep. Hopefully you won't need one. Made me lol at the thought of there being no where to hide, think that is the same for all of us Grin

My little one has turned head down, so I'm now getting frequent kicks in the ribs. Also got a massive hit? In the fanjo yesterday that made me double over when out with my sister. Nearly gave her a heart attack. Blush Felt mortified explaining he had obviously banged my cervix.

Still full of heartburn and having the most bizarre dreams. They all seem to be focused on me looking at my stomach and seeing parts of the baby sticking out? Think it is because I seen a photo of a bump with the shape of a babies hand pressing outwards.

On a positive note I received a huge bunch of flowers from my dh yesterday. A really beautiful mix. Might just be sweetening me up as the inlaws are coming for dinner. Really cant be bothered cooking for them :(

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 02/06/2011 11:38

Hi all,

Yes felt fine last night thanks, a day off doing a bit of knitting and mostly sleeping seems to have done the trick, so hoping it was just a one-off.

Scan was good the other day, got a bit upset at the w/e after lots of discussion with the in-laws as to whether we should find out or not (mostly the opinion was not), and DP reiterated that he didn't really want to know. I really did as I had had my heart set on a girl if I admit it, so wanted chance to sort my head out if it turned out to be a boy. After a lot of discussion between the two of us we decided we'd find out, but keep it between ourselves. I'm relieved actually as I didn't have the reaction I thought I would and am really rather excited, I feel more settled now I know iyswim? So for now we're just saying it was inconclusive. Funnily enough the night of the discussion I had a dream about the gender and it was right! I'm sure you can probably all guess what it is Wink

All seems ok with LO, head and femur measurement on 70th (I think), abdomen on 97th, but they didn't seem particularly concerned.

I know how you feel re sweeps COAAF, I don't fancy that myself, eek.

Sorry for the essay! Grin

nickelbabe · 02/06/2011 12:12

I haven't been sleeping at all.

I don't envy your kicks, COAAF. Shock
(not looking forward to that one...)

Katee - so you know what it is and you're not telling us! Shock you're just mean

I've been feeling really sick today - but it's heat-sick, I think.
assistant (i love school holidays!) went to iceland for me and bought me a box of suckers [yippee] Grin

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 02/06/2011 12:29

It's warm AND dry today, so am finally able to put our backyard to good use. DS out there, me in here MNing making lunch. GrinGrin

nickelbabe · 02/06/2011 12:37

warm and dry?

uncomfortably hot from my POV.

and i'm not even that far gone.
I shouldn't be feeling uncomfortably hot until September!

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 02/06/2011 13:08

Nickel, nickel there are lots of hints in there! Grin

Hope you cool down soon, have you got a fan in the shop?

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 02/06/2011 13:12

Ok, so long as you don't tell anyone...

its a boy!

nickelbabe · 02/06/2011 13:44

I guessed from your reaction Grin

I'm glad (and I hope that means mine won't be.... Grin )

If it makes you feel any better about the guilt - my big sis said that she was disappointed when she found out hers was a boy, but she came to terms with it later on.

I've not got a fan, but I'm sitting here in just my dress.
I'll be fine; I just feel a bit hot. Plus, I'm starving, and DH won't be here for another 3/4 of an hour. :(

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 02/06/2011 13:45

Yells OMG! KateeHasABOYBunInHerOven!!!

Baby2b · 02/06/2011 13:48

katee I really thought I would have a girl and was surprisingly over the moon when I found out it was going to be a boy :) Congratulations!

No chance of being to warm up here. < tries to parcel and post nickel a cool Scottish breeze> Grin

Baby2b · 02/06/2011 13:49

Haha Coaf @ boy bun...I am way to easily amused!
