New home for us ladies!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
daisysair · 20/01/2011 11:28

am in a slightly better mood after chatting to my mum (a HV).

we still reckon i'm 11 weeks so we're telling ppl!!!!

Leilandri · 20/01/2011 11:33

Got booking in at 12pm. First time with a MW in this area as have moved since having DS. Wonder if she'll be able to hear a heartbeat, or even try?
Still will feel more 'real' after this, and hopefully get a scan date too :)

Rehune · 20/01/2011 11:48

Libido went away at about 4 weeks, came back around week 8 and then has gone again (possibly on a research trip or golfing holiday) I'm barely awake after I get home from work so the thought of getting remotely frisky makes me feel exhausted.

Sickness has also come back with a vengence after 3 days of respite and cramps and backache. Then I rang Queen Charlottes to check whether they got my GP referral. Only to be told no and then rang GPs who said they had forgotten to send it. Grrr...so frustrating. QCH were making noises about perhaps being fully booked as well. Am at least 10 weeks now (maybe more) so just want a date. Just a date. (that's just made me think of the kind of dates you eat which also makes me want to heave)

Can I just say to all you ladies how helpful and great it is just hearing about things that you can identify with. You are all awesome!

LittleBeaut · 20/01/2011 12:42

Aw Rehune thats lovely... and I couldnt agree with you more!!

daisysair Oh no... hate it when that happens so what date do they/you think you are now?? I'm at my midwife this afternoon for bloods, I forgot about the carrying you wee around with you for the day, but I have it in my bag (oooh how nice eh??) and she will be pleased at punch with me as I forgot it last time - ooopsy!! It is my scan and all the nuchal test and bloods tomorrow - eeeek!! But dont think they will be shifting my dates back as when I had my first scan they said I was about 6 weeks but they couldnt do proper readings as it was too small. And I dont want them to bring my date forward any because I will be into July, and I will miss you lovely lot and all the advice like Rehune was saying

LittleBeaut · 20/01/2011 12:47

Oh yeah forgot to ask if anyone has found themselves to have more of liquids in general?? I mean like obviously I'm assuming we're all weeing more?? More ear wax - am I strange, but I seem to be having alot more. More snot?? - I wake every morning with a blocked nose and it takes till lunch time to clear!! And more fluid from your "doo-darr"?? - sorry if tmi Confused

Rehune · 20/01/2011 13:38

LittleBeaut YES to ear wax. I clean my ears about 3 times a day or at least feel I have to. Blocked nose comes following the morning spew and definitely more 'secretions' (I find that word a bit ewww but secrretly like it - the word not the actual...YKWIM)

I actually had a scan at 6 weeks while I was on holiday in Sri Lanka. They have the most amazing maternity and birth centres set in these lush gardens and grounds and you see a consultant every time. (kinda wish I was having the baby there) The scan was in the consultant's room and it was amazing seeing the little heart beating. Husband and my mum were in with me and both approached screen with their mouths opened like a couple of Dementors

Yukana · 20/01/2011 13:52

Hello everyone! I'm sure some of you remember me, it's been a while since I last posted however. First time posting in our new place.

Well, I guess I'll give an update.

DP has been royally p*ing me off, but that's another story.

Went to see the midwife yesterday for my second appointment, my scan is on the 28th of this month and I must say, I'm very excited. I had a second blood test done and the results from my previous one.
Apparently, I'm a possible thalessemia carrier, or I have an iron deficiency. To be honest, not really surprised about either as I've always been very low on iron ever since I was a little girl. Always been pale, etc. Thankfully the midwife says thalessemia won't affect the baby though.

Started taking iron supplements along with my folic acid, and trying to eat more. Sadly, even though my nausea has pretty much gone - I still can't go near strong smells, think about food or eat cooked food. At all.

Received two baby books, this is my first child so they've been really helpful! I've been browsing the internet for baby stuff too, I'm terribly indecisive though so I hope I'm able to choose the right cot for my baby!

Hope everyone else is doing well and best of luck to all of you!

Yukana I got the Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy from the a friend in the States and it is hilarious. Would recommend

Yukana · 20/01/2011 14:00

Ah really? I may (possibly) be going to the states in February so I shall take a look or ask my friend to send one over.

I just really feel like I could do with... going somewhere and relaxing. Getting away from the UK for a bit and spending time with my friends abroad. Am I being selfish or do others feel the same way? Blush I'd like to give my mother and my partner a break too, they've been doing so much for me.

I also feel like I've got a bit of a bump now... it's really amazing. I must sound like a bit of an idiot, but it's a wonderful feeling!

Leilandri · 20/01/2011 14:17

Ahh all booked in and 'in the system' which is a relief :)
Scan date to follow in the post, and blood results. MW was very happy with Blood pressure, tho my BMI is a staggering 40 Blush so I got a wrap on the knuckles over that. Must now endeavour to eat mostly fruit and veg to keep weight gain down, although all I want is white bread and carbs Grin

MrsChemist · 20/01/2011 14:46

Yes! Got a call from the community midwives office today, and you could tell she wasn't happy about my appointment being so far away, and she booked me in for next Thursday, saying I should have had my bloods already, and she also asked what hospital I would be attending, so hopefully she's contacted them about a scan Smile

MrsStevo · 20/01/2011 15:06

daisyair - I feel your pain!! I should be 10 weeks today according to my dates but sonographer put me back so I'm only 8 + 5. Humph. But HURRAH for there being a heartbeat! Fab news :)

TMI alert! Glad someone else has mentioned 'secretions'. I was a bit worried that they were the start of a miscarriage (I could read the symptoms of a miscarriage into breaking a bloody nail if I tried hard enough). Since I've given the TMI warning, I might as well say what I mean. I've had more mucus-y, stringy type white discharge every now and again when I've been for a wee. No colour to it and no blood so I wasn't worried. Have other people had the same thing?

rehune - I quite agree. Thank GOD for mumsnet! Don't know what I'd do without you all. Thanks Grin

KLou111 · 20/01/2011 15:21

OMG, only been gone since Saturday and have 10 pages to catch up on!!

Just managed to nip on, will catch up with everyone's news later on.

Can't believe MN took off my pages I'm On list as I've not been on for a few days!! Had to go hunting again!

Rehune · 20/01/2011 16:49

Yukana It's good and so is the Rough Guide to Pregnancy and Childbirth. In the US, What to Expect When you are Expecting is the Bible of pregnancy but I found it pretty daunting and a bit scary = especially a bit where it says oral sex can give you and your baby an aneurism (Dr Google discredits this and real doctors do too)

I prefer the kind of books that tell you that you have every right to be tired because you have been up all night making a spinal cord and some eyebrows.

I love my little bump and also the monster cleavage i have developed. Although they are too sensitive to touch! Poor husband, he loves them from afar!

daisysair · 20/01/2011 17:01

Littlebeaut they didn't commit to a date, as if they did that I wouldn't get another scan ;) I reckon I'll be put back to 10th! And don't feel you have to leave if yours gets moved forward, there are other imposters here ;)

Mrs Stevo sympathies. These babies will arrrive when they're good and ready tho hey, we may still prove the dating stuff wrong!

Books wise:
I just got some leaflets in the post from DPPI (disability, pregnancy and parenting international) but got the updated Sheila Kitzinger from my mum in the post earlier in the week-love that book. The rough guide to pregnancy we've loaned from the library and is a witty week by week information book :)

spilttheteaagain · 20/01/2011 17:03

Congratulations daisy.

Rehune that make me laugh!

MrsStevo and other secreters Grin I have this too. Infact it's one of my early pregnancy clues as it starts about 5 days after conception and I am very wet for the forseeable future!

Rehune · 20/01/2011 17:46

splittheaagain what should I, MrsStevo and other secreters resort to? Pantyliners?

Also daisy, my grandmother showed me this baby advice book from the '50s. It had a wealth of information including How to keep a beautiful home for your husband even when you are feeling tired and sick, and making sure he doesnt feel ill-attended to(sic) and at no point does it mention said husband pitching in. I think at one point there was a line that went 'Being in the family way is no excuse for a slatterny appearance' Ahh...good times!

spilttheteaagain · 20/01/2011 18:48

I don't need to be in the family way to look slatternly Grin

Personally I just live with the dampness and frequent toilet trips for wiping/constant weeing, but yes pantyliners if they don't annoy you would probably do the trick nicely.

I've been booked in today and can now fondly read and reread my notes (love doing this!)

Rehune · 20/01/2011 18:57

Lol @splittheaagain I bet (considering the way I am eating) that I will be so big as to actually be in the family's way

Firawla · 20/01/2011 19:28

spilt that just reminded me did anyone else's mw not give them their notes @ booking? mine said she will keep them for now?? but just wondering whether im supposed to bring them for scan but obviously i dont have them so i cant :S with my others they gave me the notes to keep from booking but that was in a different hospital so dont know if it makes a difference?

bellamysbride · 20/01/2011 19:42

Panty liners here, only to be traded in for surf board maternity pads in August. With DS I was obsessed with the wet stuff. I was constantly convincing myself that I had either lost my mucous plug or my waters had broken Grin

I had my flu jab today-boy is my arm stiff. DS has been a such a handful too, I was very, very glad for bedtime.

Rehune I am extremely Envy that you were in Sri Lanka. I would love to go. Good place for a family holiday with little one/ones?

LittleBeaut · 20/01/2011 20:22

Go MrsS I couldnt say it at it is because I'm to Blush but that is exactly how it is. Although I have no need for panty liners or owt because its only there when I wipe after going for a wee, but certainly scared me the first time or two.

So I had my second appointment with my midwife today and as she was my midwife with my two boys and last time came out into the waiting room and said "oooh I noticed your name was down on my list AGAIN!!" I think she remembered me and... we have a really really good relationship and I can talk quite openly about stuff. Was asking her if she was watchin OBEM and as it goes she is, told her I was fancying a water birth after seeing the girl the other day but worried they would laugh at me in my bikini. She said the bikini was just the the tele's benefit. Then I mentioned getting in with a just a t-shirt on and she said yeah but, most women get in naked so dont worry to much about what you look like, they have seen much worse believe me!! I then did a little cry face and said why couldnt she come with me haha. Then as we were having a bit of a laugh one of the receptionist's came in and told us off for being a bit noisy - ooopsy!! Anyway eventually had my bloods, and she had to do one for blood sugars because I have had problems in the past and is phoning me with the results in a few days as next week is her last week for a few weeks holiday so if I need GTT she needs to book me in quick... fingers crossed I dont eh??

daisysair at least you have another scan eh?? That will be nice and a clearer scan picture I assume Hmm

Ekka · 20/01/2011 21:26

LittleBeaut - well we tried to do a waterbirth with dd and succeeded with ds, and both times I was naked, no worry about what I looked like - and I'm not usually one for parading around in front of people naked! Nor, I hasten to add do I look remotely like the girl on OBEM .

nickstermum · 20/01/2011 21:28

beaut good luck for your scan xx I am monday

have just fallen in love with ewan mcgregor in moulin rouge... havent seen it for 10 years!

nickstermum · 20/01/2011 21:32

My midwife was trying to push home birth but not a chance. my last labour was very difficult, long and complicated resulting in Ds being in SCBU so i for one wont be taking that risk. DS needed medical care immediately and it saved his life, much as i would love to be at home etc, i need to be at a hospital...and i dont have the pain threshold for a water birth Grin

I suspect i will epidural it all the way!
