Hi Reshape, I think we're both due boxing day aren't we, perhaps we'll both have our babies today? I've been having consistant contractions for the last 20 hrs (they've been stop/start over the last week) sometimes 2-3mins apart, sometimes 10mins apart, and I've had a show now too, but I'm concerned that I might not be getting anywhere. We took dd over to MIL last night, which we did one night last week but it all slowed down. I think I'll go out for a walk with dh when he's up - need him to help me over the ice as walking seems to really help bring things on. With dd it was very stop/start until I was induced via drip as my waters had started leaking, so I really don't know if I'll progress any further by myself. Feel useless at labour - just like df was saying, its very frustrating, and you button, really hope things get going for us soon.
I think I'll go in later to get them to check me and unborn ds over anyway, don't know if they'll give me a sweep before my due date though, but will try anything to speed things up a bit.
How ironic having spent so much of my pregnancy worrying that ds will be early due to short cervix as a result of cervical surgery a year ago, and now he doesn't want to come!
I can't sleep either Reshape, I'm sitting here with my dog, drinking ice cold apple juice with hot water bottle in the small of my back willing my contractions to get stronger or my waters to break! Are you drinking plenty and snacking to keep your energy levels up? Do you have a gym ball to rock on - supposed to help baby get into the right position?

Right I'm off to update my tesco order for tomorrow, but will be back here again soon - sorry for waffling.
Oh and congratulations Max, hope you are feeling better now, and enjoy your little dcXmas Smile

ReshapeWhileDamp · 20/12/2010 05:19

Ooh! A labour buddy! Smile I have just had intense BHs and in supermarket today they made me stop and have a think. Now 10 mins apart contractions, mild period pain really. MW says latent phase but things could get going soon. Baby fine, hb good and moving now. Phew.

DS asleep in bed with DH so I am downstairs for duration, I think. Hope my parents can get out today...

LittleB · 20/12/2010 05:33

Hope your parents manage to get through to help you with ds, how old is he? My dd is 5 and very impatient to meet her little brother! I'm sure I'm still in latent stage as my contractions aren't strong enough(like strong period cramps, some make me catch my breath but others are just a niggle) but I'm worried that I won't progress to active stage by myself. Will see what they say later if we pop in. Can't sleep though!
Are you due boxing day too?
My dd was a week early so hoping this one is coming along now, I thought it was supposed to be easier 2nd time around!
We might go in sooner rather than later though as I'm in the Southwest and they've forecast a band of snow coming in this morning, no sign of it yet, but really don't want to go into labour stuck in snow/traffic, dh only has a polo - not really big enough for giving birth in Xmas Wink!
Hope things progress well for you - my labour buddy Xmas Smile!

MrsSnaplegs · 20/12/2010 05:39

GreenGeekGirl · 20/12/2010 08:20

Congratulation max - so pleased for you! :)

Good luck LittleB & RWD - I'll be thinking of you both!

DF hope things get going for you properly soon. Hang in there!

Still nothing at all here

bakingkeepsmesane · 20/12/2010 10:08

V excting reading here the moment tho feeling for everyone having a rough time / having to be patient. Still feeling very blessed to be sitting here with Gracie snuggled up after a feed & thinking of everyone who might be getting their precious bundle arrive today x

chloesbaby · 20/12/2010 10:46

Morning all,

really hope things get established for you soon DF and also Button - how disheartening to be in pain for so long without clear progress.

Congratulations to all those who have given birth in the past few days.

I think I had a show this morning. No blood but a big jelly lump of mucus (sorry TMI) when I woke up. My dad happened to phone soon after and DH answered and immediately told him I had just lost my mucus plug Blush Blush Blush
Why he felt the need to share that info is beyond me Blush
Anyway, no real signs of labour I don't think, but I have been having strong BHs every evening for the past week and a half now. Some uncomfortable, but mainly not.

MrsSnaplegs · 20/12/2010 11:04

Ha! Chloe I know how you feel about DH disclosing TMI! We have good friends where the DH is a very senior Army officer they rang just after my plug went and he got told as well!! This guy used to be my boss and is equivalent to a Commodore!! Not really embarrassing honestly!! Just hope I don't end up working for him again!!

chloesbaby · 20/12/2010 11:38

Haha! At least it's not just me then! Grin

DuelingFanjo · 20/12/2010 11:59

Very restless night here :( The Urine infection is I think causing me more pain than the contractions. I am trying to go with them but my whole lower abdomen hurts and I can't move easily so end up panickinig.

I am fully effaced apparently but was only 2cm dilated when I left hospital. Still no waters gone but I did lose my plug while in hospital and continue to have a bloody show. I am drinking loads but barely passing any water so I wonder if the contractions also feel a lot worse because my bladder won't empty.

Congratulations to Max Smile good luck everyone who is waiting.

frankenfanny · 20/12/2010 13:40

Congratulations max and how exciting to have 2 labours going on today! Perhaps it will encourage my LO! Sorry for all of you suffering to apparently no effect but clearly something is going on which should hopefully make baby get in the right position and labour kick off quickly when it does.

I will be going for a sweep this week and DH has manfully offered his services as much as possible. Here's hoping it works and I don't end up on the January thread!

ButtonAzure · 20/12/2010 13:48

Congratulations Maxpower that is lovely :)

Hope you are doing well Reshape and LittleB, and hope you are feeling better DF - hoping things will be smoother for you.

Thanks for all the encouragement with my situ as well. It is really hard, broke my hermiting (hermitry, hermithood?) to go to retail park and sainsburys with DH this morning. Its quite strange and exhibitionist I suppose, taking my contractions round the supermarket but has definitly helped to get out.
Just have my goalpost as boxing day now, is the last day will be allowed to have this child inside me whatever, thats just 6 days now, and i'm going to try and block out the rest with pain relief and self denial!

LittleB · 20/12/2010 16:18

Well I'm back-still no babyXmas Sad. I'm effaced too, and 1cm dilated but they sent me home, they have lots of people coming in during early labour because they are worried about all the snow we've got and the fact that theres a severe weather warning out for more snow, so they are sending us home until we're further gone. She said it could be tonight or could still be days away. I'm worried that I might need to go in during the night as the snow has started to melt and will then freeze so the roads are going to be bad. Perhaps he'll hang on in there until the roads are better though.

Sorry you're having such a rough time DF, hope they've got you on antibiotics and you feel better soon. I keep weeing at the mo, they said the ds is very low and fully engaged so I'm weeing all the time, have had a show too, and still having contractions, but further apart now.
Button, I took the dog out with dh this morning and getting out in the fresh air helped me too, lovely walking in the snow, walking seems to speed things up aswell. Anyway - bring on the pain - I want to get this baby born!

DuelingFanjo · 20/12/2010 17:29

Shall we hold hands LittleB. My contractions are all over the place, either that or I am doing the timings so wrong. I don't want to risk going in again and being sent home :(

kellestar · 20/12/2010 17:49

1.18pm on Saturday 18th Beatrice Annabelle arrived weighing 5lbs 13oz. We made it to the MLU along the road who got me to Bath RUH in an ambulance, a short while later was in established labour 20 minutes of gas and air and turning into the rapid beast I decided to accept an epidural and quickly got my wish 20 minutes after that. So much more human and in control, did need an episiotomy which is stitched up nicely. Overall length of labour from just over 4 hours.

She is so small, none of the newborn stuff fits her, her little legs don't even reach the crotch of the 'gro's or vests. Came home and found the tiny baby/preemie stuff my SiL sent me and they seem to fit better.

Had 48 hours of obs from the overactive thyroid so came home this afternoon. DH is being a star!

GreenGeekGirl · 20/12/2010 18:05

Many congratulations kellestar! :)

Sorry Button missed your last post - I can't believe it's been so long for you. Huge sympathy squish! :(

maxpower · 20/12/2010 20:49

Congratulations kellestar

Birth story coming up...

Sunday night, about 7.30pm, I was lying in bed just ready to go to sleep when I heard a pop and had really intense pain that lasted about 15secs. I had the sense that something must have happened. I went to the loo and felt my waters leaking. Called out to DH who rang my M&D so they could look after DD, but due to the bad weather, it took them about 45mins to do a 5min journey! Longest wait of my life.

After waters went, 10 mins later my contractions started. They were in a pattern almost straight away, about 1 every 2 mins lasting about 30-45secs each. Rang the labour ward who said to come in so we left as soon as M&D arrived.

Went straight into delivery suite - it was about 9pm by then. was hooked up to ctg and the midwife was fairly insistent that I had to stay on my back Sad which was really uncomfortable. She examined me and said I was about 7cm dilated. Almost straight away I felt the contractions change and began to get the urge to push. MW was doing her best to control the progress but it was virtually impossible not to push as the urge was overwhelming. After a few more contractions, she said baby was ready to come. I pushed him out in 3 contractions (about 9 pushes altogether). 2h11mins from waters breaking to delivery!

As some of you might remember, I was hoping for a successfulvbac this tine, which is exactly what I got Xmas Grin The sense of achievement and euphoria when she placed DS on my chest was unbelievable. I had a second degree tear which needed stitching but although it's a bit uncomfortable (and coughing and sneezing from the lurgy isn't helping!) for me it was such a positive experience, I can put up with that!

DD is chuffed to bits with her new brother and is planning on going out with DH tomorrow to buy him some Christmas presents Xmas Smile

Good luck to everyone still hanging in there!

LittleB · 20/12/2010 20:54

Congratulations kellestar, she sounds dinky and very sweet.
Yes, I'll hold your hand df (and button), its frustrating isn't it. I'm planning on not going in again until they get so strong its too much to cope with, or if my waters go. I'm booked in for a sweep on the 30th anyway, but that seems ages away.
I'm trying to forget about the whole labour thing and just concentrate on Christmas preparations and playing with dd while shes on her hols. Not doing too well though as I'm here on mumsnetXmas Wink!

ButtonAzure · 20/12/2010 23:06

Well done Kellestar teeny Beatrice sounds lovely :)

A dicey tale too max - glad you made it in time! really pleased for you with successful birth :o

Am booked in for another sweep attempt tomorrow at 1.30, so really hope they'll actually be able to reach my cervix this time. I was going to have to wait till thurs, but due to 'recurrent admissions to d suite' they are going to see me tomorrow. Am so praying it does something!

maxpower · 21/12/2010 00:12

thanks button - good luck with the sweep tomorrow

DF & littleb sounds like you're both making frustratingly slow progress. Hang in there.

So, despite having slept for precisely 3.5hrs since about 8am Sunday morning, being ill and having had a baby, I find myself strangely awake! Must try to get some sleep. Night all.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 21/12/2010 09:27

Sorry to hear DF and littleB are stalled. Sad

Our as-yet unnamed baby boy born yesterday at 10.25 am! Smile He is gorgeous and while dark, not much like his brother was.

Ladies, that was far too fast. Less than 2 hrs between start of established labour to birth! I was in shock a bit. Took me ages to stop shaking afterwards. Still, we are both healthy and he is fine. Smile Added bonus, DS1 slept through all night!! Made a lot of difference, esp since he has been waking in small hrs and coming in with us most nights since we moved. DS2 was in bed with us last night, so no room for another! Grin

Am sat up in bed awaiting my cooked breakfast...

Lavitabellissima · 21/12/2010 09:31

Kellestar Congratulations on beautiful Beatrice Xmas Grin
My two were 4lb 9 &5lb 7 I love the fact they were so dinky. We had to buy lots of clothes as nothing fit them. We had loads of gifts but the best size were from Matalan they weigh 5lb 15 & 7lb 8 and are now wearing tiny baby, previously they were in early baby from Tesco. It's so strange that they've already grown out of one size, it's made me realise how many clothes we'll go through I
n the next couple of years.

Hope to see some new baby announcements today, we need to update the stats list. There have been a few November people joining the Dec post natal thread. I know I was 6 weeks early but I would prefer to stay in contact with you lovely lot if that's ok Xmas Smile

Lavitabellissima · 21/12/2010 09:34

X posts Reshape Congratulations Xmas Grin

I predict that the next baby is a girl Xmas Smile

maxpower · 21/12/2010 11:13

congratulations reshape I'm glad my DS isn't the only one without a name Xmas Wink
