Some bad news today.

Good news first - he is out of his incubator, into open crib with absolutely no monitors on him.

Bad news - he has to get the hang of this feeding thing. He is on just over an ounce every 3 hours, but so far isn't getting the hang of sucking. He sucked for over an hour today and only managed a half ounce

The doctor came by and said 'Yep he's a boy, so 2.5-4 weeks, probably closer to 4 until he's ready'. So in all probability he won't be home for Christmas.

I'm really upset today, feeling very jealous that all the other mummies get to take their little ones home just after birth, saw a few leaving today in their Maxi Cosi's and feeling right sorry for myself Sorry for the downer. Hope everyone is doing well.

sarrita · 07/12/2010 09:53

Sorry to hear this stars. I suppose the one comfort is that they can care for Elias and now our early arrivals have a much better chance than they used to.

deedee321 · 07/12/2010 11:17

stars, though I totally understand how awful it must be to be separated from your baby, there is truly NOTHING more stressful than having a new baby at home that can't/won't feed. I discharged me and dd the min I could then we had horrendous nightmare with ten hours passing between feeds and multiple emergency call-outs - went on for 2 weeks and they wouldn't let us check back in incase we brought infection into the post-labour ward. It was tough. So hopefully when you do get him home, you will be confident he can feed well x

deedee321 · 07/12/2010 11:21

Shouldn't have said 'totally understand', of course I can't not having been in that situation, must be very hard.

luckykitty · 07/12/2010 11:34

big hug to stars

Hannah1890 · 07/12/2010 12:11

Sorry to hear that baby Elias isn't able to come home yet stars but also great to hear hes out of the incubator and off all monitors. Fingers crossed he'll surprise all the Drs and be home in time for christmas.

berrycravings · 07/12/2010 12:41

hi all,
Congratualtions on the birht of baby Elias Stars, sorry to hear he's not feeding so well, must be so hard leaving him every day. fingers crossed he gets to grips with the feeding soon.

My MW also thinks baby might be breech. Got an apt on Thurs for her to refer us for a scan, in this area you have to wait for 36 weeks to be refered for a scan as the baby can still turn up till this point. Ladybuzz and Macmomo are you going to give the turning procedure a go? I'm not sure very scared about the pain of it and the fact he could come that day if he gets in distress, but equally not keen on a c-section either so not sure what my plan will be, waiting to find out the outcome of the scan at the moment.

Finding it so much easier now I am on Maternity leave, not sleeping at night so now able to sleep in the day which has really helped out with things.

Getting lots of period pain cramps and BH,anyone else?

Not long to go now....have finally started packing hospital bags!

LadyBuzz · 07/12/2010 14:36

berrycravings its a bit different for me as I am having a c-section regardless and they wouldn't try and turn babybuzz as I have had previous sections.

My friend had it done and said it wasn't painful so much as uncomfortable, BUT baby turned right back round all by himself so it was a waste of time - he did right himself in time to be born.

DS2 was transverse until 37 weeks and turned himself with no problems.

I think I might have had a few BH today (never had them before).

stars glad to hear your good news and sorry to hear your bad - it WILL be worth every second when you finally get him home, fingers crossed he will be ready before then.

I really really must think about packing at least something. My boys were so late I'm just not expecting to need them yet!

luckykitty · 07/12/2010 14:59

Is anyone else a first-timer and flapping a bit?! Or not a first-timer but still flapping a bit?! :)

Im 36wks today and the daunting prospect of our small person being on the outside and looking at me rather than on the inside and kicking me seems to have just hit me! Confused

Jobi1 · 07/12/2010 16:30

hi everyone Smile

I'm 36+3 today, 3 weeks tomorrow til baby comes!

I am a second timer and flapping a bit! Well, downright scared to be honest. We want this more than anything but I'm worried about how we'll cope and what our DS will make of his sibling etc etc etc. Oh and also getting anxious about CS... although it is what I want, and its unlikely I could do it naturally, I just suddenly thought about it being surgery again and got all stressed! But hey, no point in worrying about these things!

Getting loads of movement, kicks and jabs all over, its weird. Last time placenta was anterior, so this is all new to me. Its a right little fidget! Last two appointments have said head down but I suppose it doesn't make any odds. A little part of me is worried I'll actually go into labour naturally though... time will tell I suppose.

To be honest I do feel realy odd about it, my cervix doesn't open, even with major drugs, so we're all assuming it can't. A little part of me wonders though, and I keep thinking what if I went into labour and it actually worked and I dilated this time. Wouldn't that be mad. I'm not taking the chance though, c section it is, or mircale prior to that!

Anyway, I'm waffling. I think its normal to vary between excited and anxious, and no matter how chaotic the first few weeks can be it gets easier very quickly.

Star, sorry to hear Elias isn't feeding too well, he will get the hang of it soon.

Hope everyone else is ok, and all the babies turn and face the way they should.

Should we do an updated list? I'll try and find one to copy Smile

Jobi1 · 07/12/2010 16:34

This one is from page 6, so let me know if not most recent. I can't find Star on it, what was previous user name? How do we update, is there a given way of doing it?

Cheers Xmas Smile

Is anyone else sleeping for England?

Jobi1 · 07/12/2010 16:51

Thanks cotswolder.

Sleeping for England?! Haha I wish!! Lucky you, you must need it so get as much as you can!

cotswolder · 07/12/2010 17:00

not exactly great. Can sleep all night, doze most of the evening and sleep during the day for several hours. Just feel bloody exhausted all the time! Feel sorry for DH who is doing most of the jobs!

MacMomo · 07/12/2010 17:15

stars big hug - stay positive, doctors always try to prepare you for the worst for some reason, if he picks up sucking more quickly he'll be home sooner. Christmas can always be on a different day, IFKWIM - I've had Christmas on 26 December twice in the past.

Yes, off to stand on my head 3 times a day. I think Prawn (should be Buddha) really wants to be transverse, it's how she's been all along.

Lots and lots of BH since 30 weeks, getting longer. Hormones all over the place, lots of anxiety feelings that I think are just hormonal as they come in waves totally unrelated to whatever I'm thinking about!

7 hours of exams today - done. Hopefully no resits and then last exams next week - then I can GO HOME! After 4 months.

Probably time I put myself on the list...have gone with the date she is actually due although midwife is saying she'll be early as she's giant healthily large.

Oh dear... I have just been looking at the Bounty website at their photos they do in hospital and found myself crying uncontrollably as all the babies are so beautiful Hmm
Is being ridiculously emotional normal?! I got all teary earlier as the weather was beautiful too....

Definately not sleeping for england. Evil heartburn, slept with the bin by the bed last night as I was convinced something awful ending in vomit was going to happen while I slept Blush and what with the splint things for carpal tunnel on both wrists and SPD i cant actually move fast enough in any sort of emergency situation....Grin

kiwijesta · 07/12/2010 19:47

Thinking of you *stars!

So I had a 34 week scan today and placenta has moved (good) and so did the baby, from transverse to breech (not so good) And to top it off there isn't very much liquid left around the baby for it to move. Still healthy but prob not going anywhere, had a funny feeling about this, oh well. MW got me a consultant appt next week to discuss, she said they'd offer an EVC but it prob won't move so I'm almost surely having a CS in early Jan. It's funny my mum and dad are more concerned than us, I'd rather it was planned, does that make sense?
Anyway back to work tomorrow, 8 more days!

luckykitty · 07/12/2010 19:55

kiwi i think i would want to know in advance if i was having as CS so I get you, hopefully your little one turns round in time :)
They told me at 34wk scan that the fluid looked less than it should be and i thought it would have a big impact on the movement but baby seems to be thrashing about so who knows...

travispickles · 07/12/2010 20:25

I can't believe how much your midwives etc seem to tell you! Like how much fluid, size of baby etc. Mine delights in keeping it all mysterious, she is always going on about me being a teacher and how we are the worst for wanting to know stuff. Very frustrating! Still feel totally unprepared for it all and desperate to stop work now...

Hannah1890 · 07/12/2010 20:32

kiwi I would definately agree that would rather have a planned CS than an emergency one so good that they've found out earlier although imagine is just something extra to worry about.

Glad everyone else seems to be having the same anxieties and hormonal breakdowns as I am. Had a full on cry to DH last night because I couldnt reach my toes to paint my toenails, shave my legs or even see my bikini line, told him I felt gross, so this morning at half 8 he phoned me to tell me I had an appt. this afternoon for a hair cut. Feel 100 times better and now feel ready to have a baby haha, crazy how a little bit of pampering can make everything so much better, would definately reccommend it :o

cotswolder having some of the same sleep issues in that I'm constantly knakard and feel like Id like to sleep all day but can't seem to sleep for longer than 3 hrs at a time so dont feel like sleep doing much good. Thank goodness for maternity leave if wasnt for the 4 drs/nurses/midwife appts this week I think i could just stay in bed, dont know how all of you with other children do it!!

luckykitty · 07/12/2010 20:36

In all fairness I think i have some kind of information OCD, I have this overwhelming need to know everything about whats going on - DP thinks this is bad thing and I may be better off not knowing, they only told me because I saw something I didnt recognise written on my notes and questioned it! Grin

beijingaling · 08/12/2010 00:20

I'm also not sleeping and I'm rather emotional. I've never been a napper but I am now.

The idea of this tiny little thing living on the outside scares me too.

DH and I have settled on a middle name and down to the final two first names. I think well wait until she arrives to decide.

cotswolder · 08/12/2010 05:12

so much for the sleeping!

Kiwi - can understand your view and it being planned, I would be the same I think. At least you know what is happening and can plan forward.... not that easy to deal with your parents as well if they are concerned!

Well it is 5am here. Got up at 4am with heartburn / reflux (don't normally get so not sure if my fault for eating late last night). Thought I'd make the christmas cake for some reason. Got everything out and now realised I don't have the butter :(

Bored now! Off to clean the kitchen and write some christmas cards me thinks.

LadyBuzz · 08/12/2010 08:17

It is def alot nicer having a nice relaxed Elective section. I've had both and I know which I would prefer!

I remember clearly coming home with DS1 and just looking at him in his basket and DH and thinking 'what do I do now then?'
48 hours later I just seemed to be doing what I needed to. It does seem to kick in quite quickly!

Seriously though, you will just do what you have to and you will most likely know what your baby needs quite quickly.
They are worth every second of the worry honest Xmas Grin

FunkyMonkey1983 · 08/12/2010 10:58

Hi all

I had another scan last week and everything is looking fine so I've been given the go ahead to have my baby at the local MLU which is a relief as I didn't fancy going 1.5hrs to nearest hospital while in labour, especially in this weather (I'm in the Highlands of Scotland).

Baby's head is 3/5ths engaged(!) and Braxton Hicks have started so DH may get his wish with baby arriving before Christmas! Fingers crossed not long now!
