stardown I've phoned the Hip Helpline already but they will do nothing until 6 weeks are up. If I haven't recieved it by my next antenatal appointment in 2 weeks time I'll ger the midwife to give me another.

Also don't put too much water in the glass or have it too hot - so it can be necked in a oner! Grin

Stardown - I had major heartburn and the only thing that helped me is ranitidine that reduces the amount of acid produced by the stomach. i was originally prescribed it for the pain I was getting after i had a vomiting virus but I found that it helped with my heartburn so much as well that I asked my GP to carry on taking it. It is sold over the counter as Zantac or soemthing but in a lower dose. Before that the only thing that remotely helped was taking gaviscon ADVANCE imediately after EVERY meal as a preventative and before bed too. And avoid anything remotely greasy/fatty. x

RoxieP · 12/11/2010 20:33

Welcome Loubaby too!

travispickles · 13/11/2010 13:22

Hi all... I also have been suffering with heartburn, sometimes it wakes me up at night at the moment. In fact, I now wake up every 1 1/2 hours either for the loo, indigestion or just uncomfortable/back ache/ sore hips etc. Anybody else finding a good night's sleep is already a thing of the past?? Can't believe how close it all seems now - I was terrified at my antenatal class the other night when I realised that the whole childbirth thing will soon not be theoretical! Hope you are all doing OK... :)

wondersparkler · 13/11/2010 14:42

Heartburn is keeping me awake too Sad, it's got really bad in the last couple of days and when I wake up in the night it's taking me ages to get back to sleep so now I'm knackered as well. Seems a really petty thing to be moaning so much about but it is taking over my life at the moment.

Might try bicarb or zantac as gaviscon isn't doing much.

gallicgirl · 13/11/2010 19:26

Know what you mean about the sleeping. I'm finding it really difficult to turn over in bed and my hips are almost numb when I wake up. I guess it's just the extra weight in that area.

Pacita · 13/11/2010 22:36

Heartburn - check.

Sore hips - check.

Disturbed sleep - check

Oh what joy! I'm still on the gaviscon, but shall try some of the remedies you clever ladies mentioned.

MacMomo · 13/11/2010 22:57

Have had no heartburn at all - perhaps this is because I'm sleeping sitting up? Might be worth a go if you can pile up a load of pillows (I need one under bum to combat numb bum), I'm at about a 45 degree angle now. It takes a bit of getting used to but might be worth it for relief of heartburn?

Have put on 1.5 kilos in 10 days. Can't imagine why - no change in food or routine. Must just be a growth spurt. Finally getting down to ordering the nappies (I'm going cloth).

Another 5 weeks of work and living away from home. Need a forklift to get off the sofa and stairlift to get upstairs Shock. Is it possible to actually get any bigger? Small ojbects will start to orbit me.

Jobi1 · 13/11/2010 23:39

Another vote for heartburn or acid, although not as bad as with DS. I use rennie soft chews & try & remember to drink a glass of milk at bedtime. My pelvis is super painful at night, turning over makes me want to cry. Also sleeping propped up, which helps a bit on both counts.
It was my 36th birthday yesterday, so am having a nice weekend getting spoilt. Probably eating too much. So far have gained 23lbs, is that terrible? Its not as bad as last time, I'm hoping I'll be back to pre preg weight quite quickly & then back to losing what I put on first time around!
Hope everyone ok x

loubaby1 · 14/11/2010 07:51

I've not had any heartburn either, I sleep lying down too, so think it must just be luck! I've got serious pain in my hips though, have SPD and turning over in bed is so hard.

I'm not sure how much weight I've put on but my bump has definitely had a growth spurt in the last week as everyone keeps pointing out! I can't even imagine what size it will be with another 7 weeks growing! :)

That comment about being orbited made me laugh Macmomo!

LadyBuzz · 14/11/2010 08:59

jobi1 that sounds familiar, I need to start with the weight from this pg, then the last one then finally from DS1 who is 4 Hmm
still I have only put on approx 18lbs this time so far, I put on around 50lb both times with the boys Blush

I have heartburn too, I seem to have had it right the way through this time, If the onld wives tales are correct I will be having a Gorilla Grin

My lovely friend had a little girl on Thursday so I am off for cuddles today - I can't wait!

gallicgirl · 14/11/2010 11:55
Shock

I've put on around 4 kilos I think. Not entirely sure what I started at but it doesn't seem too bad and is mostly baby bump. Probably helped that I lost 1.5 kilos while suffering from morning sickness. My bump seems to be huge and I really don't know how much further I'll stretch! I'm half convinced the baby is curled up in a ball like a hedgehog. Grin

Ladybuzz - enjoy your cuddles. I got terribly broody for my own baby when a work colleague visited with her new-born a few weeks ago.

RoxieP · 14/11/2010 13:29

OMG I hate you lot! I have put on at least 2.5 stone, and I reckon I was carrying a spare half before I even got pregnant! It sucks!

gallicgirl · 14/11/2010 13:34

well I'd put on a few kilos before I got pregnant. I couldn't be arsed to slim down to a decent size 10 so gave up and was working on eating my way up to a proper size 12 Grin.

I have brief moments where I try to eat healthily but I mostly eat what I want, when I want but find I don't actually want to eat that much most of the time. I guess not drinking alcohol any more plays a large part in it.

Hannah1890 · 14/11/2010 15:38

Been complaining about my heartburn to DH for ages but feel I should now stop as a quick gulp of gaviscon has been doing the trick for me so obviously actually quite lucky. It also mainly happens when I'm hungry, so gives me a good excuse to eat all the time!!

Have put on 8kg since start of pregnancy, think working at pizza hut is helping both baby and I to gain weight. not sure what weight gain is normal anyway so happy not to worry about it for now... lol

LadyBuzz · 14/11/2010 16:50

hannah i could would be the size of a house!

I can't wait for my baby to be here now, baby Lucy was adorable, you forget how very very tiny they are and she was 8lb 2 so not really small. So gorgeous though!

LadyBuzz · 14/11/2010 16:51

grr that made no sense, that SHOULD have said I could not work there I would be the size of a house!!! Hmm

gallicgirl · 14/11/2010 17:01

Wouldn't you find you'd get fed up of the smell of the food maybe?

As a student I worked for Kiplings and they let you eat as much cake as you like because they know after a week, you will never touch the damn stuff again!

Does anyone know typically how heavy our babies are at the moment? I'm coming up to 31 weeks but can only find info on how long the baby is. Just curious.

Also have a very tender bump around my belly button but suspect this is just trapped wind. Is there anything serious it could be?

WalkTheDog · 14/11/2010 17:23

Hi all :)

Hello to the newcomers.

gallicgirl could it be split rectus?

Sorry for those with heartburn. My heartburn seems to have improved, wondering if baby has turned from breech and so not pressing on stomach so much. Coping with just using Rennies more in evening as needed.

Sleeping, yep disturbed, sometimes at start of night can waken every half hour and really need to go to loo. Pelvis bugging me at night, but got some tubigrip which seems to help a bit.

I've put on 16lbs (but was carrying too much pre pg). Put on 7lbs in first trimester, even though I actually also seemed to loose weight around the hips etc. Weight has stayed the same for about past 6 weeks, but bump is getting huge.

Stardown · 14/11/2010 18:04

DP has put on quite a bit, went for scan on Wednesday and they said he looked okay - although his amniotic fluid is on the 1st centile!

Last night had a bit of a scare when we thought DP's face/fingers were puffy, decided not to go to A&E but bought a home BP monitor today just in case ever happens again we will test it and if it has shot up will go straight to hospital. Doc appt tomorrow so will get it tested plus urine so hopefully PE will be discounted.

30+1 here!

kiwijesta · 14/11/2010 18:18

Hey everyone! Its been a week since I posted, and its taken ages to catch up on all the news! It seems that indegestion (sp?), heartburn and reflux seems to be common problems, and all I have to say is me too!

walk the dog my baby is transverse and I was wondering if that was making my heartburn worse too? ITs a bit strange, cause I can feel her head to the left of my belly button.

I tried that bicarb and water last night, got half a glass down, and then it was too gross! I'm getting the burps alot at the moment, esp when I slouch, I guess it encourages good posture!

Went to our first ante-natal class on Weds, was interesting, scoping out potential friends. Makes it very real though! Ours involves a day off work, does anyone elses?

Anyway, hope everyone has had a nice weekend!

mummychicken · 14/11/2010 19:38

kiwijesta I did say bicarb was gross - trick is to have not much water to gulp down!! I'm just too tight to spend a fortune on gavison etc when the main ingredient is bircarb of soda with a more chemical name.

LOADS of what I am hoping are braxton hicks (sp?). DH doesn't want to know about anything like that. His quote " Don't tell me anything unless you socks are wet!" [grin}

I keep being told you can get gaviscon on prescription when you're pregnant, I've been too disorganised so far but hope to in time for the next bottle (I'm fairly certain it's going to take at least one more to get through the next few weeks). I'm not sure if that makes it any more appealing? It does taste pleasantly minty but I'm not sure that it makes much difference to the actual heartburn.

kiwijesta · 14/11/2010 22:19

wondersparkler my MW offered me gaviscon on prescription so I'd say go for it,
mummychicken I'll try a smaller glass next time, hehe

RoxieP · 15/11/2010 10:45

Gallicgirl - I have had exactly the same thing - really tender area around bellybutton and a bit of pain when moving about - I have put it down to being on my feet a lot over the weekend and my bump stretching under the strain. But yes, I have an area that is actually tender to the touch - I suspect it is the muscle wall underneath being a bit injured/torn. Walkthedog, I now that the abdominal rectus can split/seperate - is that normal or something to be concerned about? I'm sure I read somewhere that the linea nigra is the abdominal rectus muscle seperating so I'm guessing it happens to most people? I haven't got one yet though!

I haven't worried too much about it as it definely doesn't feel like contractions, baby is moving around fine (although if it kicks me underneath that bit it hurts a bit!), and it is fine when I am resting - only hurts when I move about or touch it. So seems obvious that it's probably just some kind of small injury to the muscle which makes sense with all the growing and stretching going on! So I have been making dp do my share of the housework this weekend!
