Roxie not a big concern if rectus splits, just need to be careful that you don't do sit ups/or get out fo bed in a sit up kinda way. You should be checked post birth to see if you have a split (ask MW if concerns). Not unusal to have a two finger gap, that sorts itself out. Some people can have a huge gap and most of time closes in time. Some people left with slight gap and no long term probs.

Gaviscon def available on prescription, so free while pg and up to one year post birth.

Baby's kicks/punches getting pretty strong. Also quite funny to see skin moving.

stenogirl · 15/11/2010 16:55

34 weeks - getting soooooo close now :)

Hello everyone,
My friend (who was due on 7th January) had her baby last Wednesday. A girl called Alice and she was 4.5 pounds. Mum and baby are doing really well.
Makes you think, yikes, the baby can arrive any day now Shock

Like lots of you, I wake frequently in the night, what with peeing and feeling really hot. Maybe it's to get us ready for sleepless nights with baby.

According to my weekly pregnancy update email gallicgirl at 34 weeks the baby weighs approximately 4.73 pounds. 31 weeks should be around 3.31 pounds.

Stardown · 15/11/2010 17:23

DP went to doctor today - trace of glucose in urine - not good as she's really been monitoring her sugars this week Sad - really hope she doesn't get put on insulin on Thursday. Fingers very tightly crossed.

Baby is 1/5 engaged! Shock Doctor said his head is very low and his movements reduced - doc said he could be thinking about making an entry anytime now! Crazy.

Got specialist on Wednesday to discuss last week's growth scan, pretty sure he will just give the all clear, then diabetic clinic Thursday. Seems we are going for 2-3 appointments a week now!

Congratulations to your friend steno - if we ever have a girl Alice will be the middle name, it's my grandmother's name and my middle name! We love it.

Stardown · 15/11/2010 17:23

Oh and BP was 140/90 Shock - it was apparently 140/98 the first time. We have always been told by midwives that if it's over 90 to go to A&E but the doctor didn't seem concerned Confused

littlehuman · 15/11/2010 17:32

33 weeks + 3
hi everyone , havent posted for ages
i think since i ve started the antenatal classes 3 weeks ago i got so much info that i didnt feel the need to go on mumsnet that often.
its only me and a other girl(out of supposibly 15 girls booked in)that turn up every week so we can go through a lot everytime.

still working , not sur until when yet, still teaching my aquafit classes along with my part time waitressing job( where i still get given 10 hours shifts grrrrhhh).
i get gaviscon (on prescription)as like most of yous get heartburns especially in the evening

roxie i got the form to apply for MA on direct.gov.uk you can print it out , fill it and send it to the address on the form.
hope this help

gallicgirl · 15/11/2010 18:46

Thanks for the info Roxie and steno.
I no longer think it's trapped wind so might be the split rectus thing. Would probably be less tender if I stopped poking it every 10 minutes Grin

I'll ask the midwife about it when I see her next week but it's not bothering me particularly.

It's reassuring to know the weight of baby and know that she could survive if born early.

Got our second ante-natal class tonight and DP is stuck at work. Slightly annoying but can't be helped. he has similar attitude to mummychicken's DP regarding information so I'm eager for him to start taking notice of what might happen.

WalkTheDog · 15/11/2010 19:17

stardown it's a good idea to take your BP machine to an appt with MW or GP, and compare their machine result and yours - they then might listen with more belief to home tested results. GP got my dad to do that. Oh and in past I have found GPs are a bit blase (?sp) re BP.

MacMomo · 15/11/2010 21:42

dear god! just felt like I had almost got to grips with the options for cloth nappies (about 50% of the way to making a decision), so decided to start researching slings. I need another 9 months not 8 weeks! If it's going to take a month per item, I am in trouble.

Pacita · 15/11/2010 22:10

MacMomo, I'm the proud owner of 5 slings, so if you want to run your choices past me, I'd be happy to help.

I found that stretchy jersey ones were ideal with newborns and loved the Kari-me. It was a bit faffy to tie, but great once it was on, and you can take the baby on and off without redoing it. It is great for cradle carry when very little and for forward and inward facing upright position when a bit older. It is also nice and warm in the winter.

The tricotti is a quick version of the above, two jersey panels where you can do upright or cradle carry. Very practical and quick.

The babba sling (peanut shell type sling) is great for hip carry, when they are bigger, although some ladies quite like to use it from birth for cradle carry. It is fine, but not as snuggly as a wrap around jersey sling IMO.

The baby bjorn was favoured by DP (I guess it probably looks a bit more manly, as it is backpack style), but unlike with the wrap around slings, it is not recommended that you carry the baby for long periods, as it places quite a bit of stress on the babies hips. It can only do front upright carry.

The Ergo is pricey but a wonderful back pack style sling. I did not use it from birth, but you can buy it with a newborn pillow type thing. I used this a lot from 6 months onwards, to do both forward and back carry.

I'm such a sling bore, so apologies to ladies not interested in the subject. Don't get me started on the slings I covet and don't own!

Stardown · 16/11/2010 07:10

WalktheDog the BP results I mentioned were at the doctor's office, not on our home machine. We haven't even used the home machine yet.

sarrita · 16/11/2010 15:07

33 weeks.

Sleeping well as DH is sleeping with my son in the spare room and have a marvelous 'growbag' beanbag like pillow. Great for sleeping with and then propping up baby for those long feeds in the beginning.

Gaviscon tabs doing the trick, but feeling pretty sicky. SPD a pain, but glad that I can still swim like the clappers.

Pacita have my eye on an Ergo. I think they look great. Might ask for one for Christmas.

Roxie ouch! Hope the ouchiness lessens.

Haven't really put on any weight due to weight loss at the beginning(14lbs) and loss of appetite since. Think DH is a bit annoyed with me as a result - he has put on weight and thinks that I should be looking more bountiful. Will be guaranteed to be enormous after X-mas and all the coffee and cake after Baby II.

Such massive kicks now, and lots of using bladder as a trampoline. Still very reassuring...

mamasunshine you gone quiet again. Hope that you are alright and just lurking.

Hannah how are you feeling?

Macmom you still away from home?

mummychicken · 16/11/2010 19:37

pacita any comments on the brightsparks coorie pouch? I tried a baby carrier with DS but it needed 2 to put baby in it - completely stupid IMO.

LadyBuzz · 16/11/2010 20:05

pacouita I'm very interested to hear your thoughts we had a baby bjorn for the boys but I hated it and it was hardly used. I've been given a premaxx which I obv won't be able to comment on til DC3 arrives.

LadyBuzz · 16/11/2010 20:05

pacita even - damn keyboard

WalkTheDog · 16/11/2010 20:37

I got given a premaxx (can use from newborn and then as a hip sling) and also another one, can't remember name, but similar style to baby bjorn. Friend had baby bjorn, she loved it, not sure if promo info still the same, but we had a good giggle at that - girl with a white baby bjorn on a night out, guy with a black one at the gym etc

MW today, baby has moved from breech to be oblique, with head in downward direction, but possible back to back. MW not too concerned as still time and space to move, has given me a few exercises to do, but not proved they def work.

crumblequeen · 16/11/2010 21:27

29 weeks

I am thinking about a new sling too - have baby bjorn but also liked the look of the ergo as baby bjorn was not great once baby very heavy. Glad we have a resident sling expert to comment Smile

Just done my final Christmas and baby shopping list - not too bad actually just need to get myself into town one night on my own and to tesco to spend my clubcard vouchers while the double exchange is on!

wondersnuffle · 16/11/2010 22:09

32 weeks

I have a bit of a sling collection as well. Started with a freedom sling (one of the one shoulder jobs) but DS got too heavy for it really quickly, I know people who've got on better with them but they must have had stronger backs or lighter babies than I did. I bought a kari-me after seeing someone with one at baby group and it was probably the most useful bit of baby kit that I owned, DS pretty much lived in it for months. When DS finally got too heavy to be comfortable in the kari-me I got a patapum and I'd probably still be using it now if the bump wasn't too big.

deedee321 · 17/11/2010 10:58

32+5!

I've been given a baba sling from my SIL, what do you people in the know think of them? Looks quite easy to use but are you able to actually let go??

littlehuman · 17/11/2010 17:15

hi
similar question to deedee
got given a sling too, otherwise i wont have bother with one i think, because when do you actually get to use it?

MacMomo · 17/11/2010 17:38

sarrita yes, still away. I go home in 4 weeks time when I will be 37 weeks!

thanks for the sling advice. must find a shop to try before I buy. I intend to carry the child everywhere, no pram, for as long as humanly possible. can't afford new car, can't really fit much in current one! sling for baby seems best answer.

hope everyones well and not suffering too much

very exciting that we're all getting ready now for LO's arriving, been great taking advantage of everyone's knowledge of slings etc as personally have absolutely no idea, we've been lucky to be given most of our stuff second hand but that includes 3 slings so still plenty of choice :)

After having growth scan and finally getting relief that everything was fine, have had 3 Drs/nurse appts in the past week due to high BP and protein in urine. each time BP has been about the same not ridiculously high but Dr said she was concerned as my BP is usually v.low. Now told to go back friday again to get it checked for the 4th time! , getting a little bit frustrated at being checked so many times but no-one actually doing anything about it. stardown have you had any information or treatment for your DP's high BP? or does anyone have any idea what treatment can be or is it all just monitoring?

Feeling like its one thing after another at the moment but not long and will have LO to make it all worth while :), just worrying about making it to that point healthy at the moment . Sorry for the rant, partially blaming this horrible weather too lol

RoxieP · 18/11/2010 13:34

32+1

Yes Hannah I am getting excited too! Can't wait to meet LO, even had a dream I'd had her the other night, and it was the first one I've had like that that wasn't a little bit weird and was actually lovely.

Re the blood pressure thing, they are proabably just monitoring it to keep an eye on it. It is probably just a bit higher than usual, not high enough to be a danger, but high enough that they want to spot straight away if it goes up even more. There isn't an awful lot they could do about it now probably - in non-pg life if you had slightly elevated bp they'd monitor it, then if it went up more they'd start you on drugs of some kind e.g. beta blockers - but they wouldn't do that in pg for obvious reasons. Plus, bp often naturally goes up especially in late pg so as it is hypertension with a known, temporary cause it isn't treated in the same way as primary hypertension is outside of pregnancy.

I guess they are looking out for the signs of pre-eclampsia (which I'm sure it won't come to that so don't worry) just in case and if they were REALLY concerned all they could do is deliver baby early. I'm sure it won't come to that with you, but at least they are keeping an eye on things. try not to worry, that won't help! It is good they're keeping an eye on you and I'm sure they're just doing it to be extra cautious. My bp was up at my last apt, still well within normal, but I usually have v low bp so I wondered. MW didn't bat an eyelid though and said it was fine and that it was bound to start going up a bit eventually...

LadyBuzz · 18/11/2010 13:47

hannah what roxie said re your bp, also because you have a protein trace which is another indicator of Pre eclampsia they will keep a close eye on you. Have you been asked about swelling in your hands and feet?

My Friend had it and was about to be induced but delivered herself at 34 weeks, baby was 7lb and aside from being slightly jaundiced was perfectly healthy!

RoxieP · 18/11/2010 14:17

Ooooo - I hope we haven't scared you too much though? Protein in urine CAN be a sign of pre-eclampsia but I have had protein in my urine a few times during pg, a couple of times due to UTIs and once due to dehydration from being sick. They are keeping a really close eye on you at least so I'm sure everything will be fine. If they were desperately worried they would have admitted you. My aunty was admitted with high bp and was induced early in the end because of it, but hers was SKY HIGH and her and baby were absolutely fine. x

LadyBuzz · 18/11/2010 15:50

Oooo indeed, that might sound slightly scary! I too am sure that they would be more concerned if there was anything to worry about. It is just if something they like to keep an eye on.

I had it with DS1 right at the end and mine was sky high also iirc was 180 over 120 or so at its worst. I was already in labour by then though.

I'll shut up now Grin
