Congratulations Pooka

Still no signs of anything here, now at 40+2. Walked to town to get shoes for the boys so I'm going to take it easy this afternoon, and dh will take them to run around somewhere.
Builders start on Monday aaarrgghhh....so really want this baby today or tomorrow.

LadyLazarus · 10/09/2005 14:27

YAY POOKA!! bit scary to think you could be told there are no midwives available for your homebirth tho!!

Katts · 10/09/2005 14:28

I'm feeling the heat too kiwifruit. My thick Florida skin has given up. I was even SWEATING last night. Baby monitor claims it's 23 degrees in the house so I shouldn't really be complaining.

LadyLazarus · 10/09/2005 14:36

I too am a sweaty mess . yesterday I had a bath + washed my hair, and by the time I'd dried it with the hairdrier I was sweating again!!

mummyhill · 10/09/2005 15:28

Goodluck HelenEmjay.

congratulations Pooka and welcome to Tom Alexander.

Still experiencing mild ones every half hour or so but as I can walk and talk not getting too worried. Will keep you all posted.

andif · 10/09/2005 15:45

Congratulations to Pooka and family - shame about the home birth, but at least you're both safe and sound without spending much time in hospital!
Good Luck for Monda Helenemjay!

jessysmummy · 10/09/2005 15:52

Big CONGRATS to Pooka and family!
It's all happening now...you next mummyhill or maybe Franch? Or will we have to wait for Helenemjay on Monday...Good Luck!
After DD being a complete angel this morning, just back from lunch where she was a comlete nightmare. Doesn't bother me so much but DH really gets worked up about it. Think it comes from his strict up bringing whereas I'm inclined to think that children will be children but always make sure I apologise to other diners for their behaviour. Most usuually say not to worry as they've been there themselves.
Weather up here not too hot and sticky thank goodness but conatantly threatening rain.

pooka · 10/09/2005 16:02

Thanks all
all fine here though afterpains rather shocking
4 boys and 4 girls so far! What an even spread.
So sorry for same(ish) name SarahHal. Just can't think of another - though have to say things could change.

Boompi · 10/09/2005 18:25

Congrats Sallie and Pooka!!
Holding thumbs for everyone else hoping to deliver this weekend. how are you Franch?

Edie is being very sweet - hardly cries but really hope my milk comes in soon - she is a very hungry little girl. I cant believe shes mine. I get a lump in my throat whenever I look at her.

Embarrassing event of labour - dh in his excitement sent out and email with a photo of me just post delivery to my ENTIRE mailbox. This includes the director from work, most of human resources and my professional regulatory body What they must think of me???
That was worse than being naked with my bits on display with a room full of strangers!!

Kiwifruit · 10/09/2005 18:37

Bless your DH Boompi - he was obviously very excited ! Great to hear that Edie is being so good - can't be too long until your milk comes in (usually about day 3 isn't it?), but imagine that the waiting must be hard when she's hungry!

Horrible heartburn today - may well OD on Gaviscon by the end of the evening .

Have now packed my labour bag, the baby's bag, and most of my hosptital bag - just need to pick up a few things to put in that, then I'm sorted. Now all I need to do is sit down and commit my birth plan to paper (it's currently floating around in my head)...

Question re disposable nappies... I bought some newborn ones, but didn't realise that they come in different newborn sizes - got size 2, which are for 7lbs plus. Highly doubt that I will have a baby that's less than 7lb, so the size 2 should be OK, or should I get some size 1s as well?

mummyhill · 10/09/2005 19:06

Apparently a good laugh is good for starting things off so here is the latest joke DH found on the internet.

A woman starts a new job in the tickle me elmo factory. She arrives bright and early on her first day but by lunch time there is a knock on the personnel office door. In walks the foreman complaining that the new girls is holding up production. The personnel mamanger walks down on to the shop floor to find the woman sat with elmos all around her, cutting out circles of the plush red fur into circles and placing a marble in each before sewing two very carefully between his legs. I think you misunderstood me I told you to give each elmo two test tickles.

It ammused me.

Redhelen · 10/09/2005 20:08

pooka - well done - congratulations on the birth of Tom Alexander - how is dd?

Liked the joke Mummyhill.

Any more babies on their way? Take car all xxx

LadyLazarus · 10/09/2005 20:17

haha @ your DH Boompi! I'll have to watch out for my hubby if he goes near my email! How are you finding the adjustment and the lack of sleep? and how is the breastfeeding?

mummyhill · 10/09/2005 22:16

Kiwifruit I have bought some size one and size two nappies. DD was 7lb 10oz and I found that the size two were slightly too big to start with, had to fold them down quite a bit to avoid them catching the cord.

Still getting mild contractions about every 1/2 hour to 20 mins. Called the hospital and they said to take a couple of paracetamol and have a bath and to go in when they are 5 - 10 mins apart.

DH is hoping that this won't be until lunchtime tomorrow so that he can go teach karate in the morning as he has two new students starting. Have told him i will try to cross my legs (not)

franch · 11/09/2005 01:42

Carmen Rosalind Esme was born at 5.36 on Saturday afternoon, delivered in our bathroom by ambulance crew (mws didn't make it in time) after a thoroughly scary HALF HOUR labour. No time to fill pool, get DD picked up or even partake of any pain relief.

Carmen is beautiful. I am still in shock but also ecstatic.

Bed now. More as soon as I can manage it. Love and luck to you all. xxx

KiwiKate · 11/09/2005 02:57
  • So much for not being able to go into spontaneous labour, Franch! Sounds like your body certainly knew what to do when the time came. CONGRATULATIONS!!

CONGRATULATIONS also to Pooka and Sallie (and Boompi - not sure if I sent you a congrats when Edie was born) and Tallbird.

Good luck for Monday HelenEmjay.

Mummyhill - hope all is still going well for you. We're all waiting to hear more news from you.

KiwiKate · 11/09/2005 05:33

Please add your info to our Sept Stats Thread here

mummyhill · 11/09/2005 07:32

Congratulations Franch and welcome to Carmen Rosalind Esme

mummyhill · 11/09/2005 07:37

Yes I am still here waiting for these contractions to speed up a bit, knowing how long Franch was in early labour I am starting to worry that I won't be able to get to the hospital in time!!! Got woke up at 1.30 and 3.30 by slightly stronger contractions, however been up since 6 and am still only getting mild ones every 1/2 hour I think this baby is way to comfy.

Franch - I am sorry you didn't quite get the homebirth you had planned.

Welcome to cinderelly.

mummyhill · 11/09/2005 07:38

OOh and good luck for tomorrow helenemjay.

mummyhill · 11/09/2005 07:39

Is it time for a new thread yet cause I am having problems scrolling through and keeping track of what is going on

sarahhal · 11/09/2005 08:02

Congratulations to you all who have had your beautiful babies this weekend.

Franch - what a speedy delivery! Can't wait to hear the details!

Pooka - such a fab name isn't it!!!

andif · 11/09/2005 09:04

Franch - congratulations at last! What a relief that you didn't have to be induced, but what a shock!!
Welcome to Carmen
Had quite painful contractions from 2ish last night, but all stopped now. Dh is very helpfully out tonight at some work thing that is apparently terribly exciting . Can guarantee it'll all go off as he gets there!
