Well the curry, clitoral stimulation and all the other ideas haven't helped...any other suggestions? Am getting so bored now, have ben on maternity too long

KiwiKate · 05/09/2005 21:54

CONGRATULATIONS Bubbles! Hope you are feeling well, and that all went well with the birth.

Pooka - I know exactly what you mean about upsetting the status quo. I am also getting mad "what-have-I-done?" moments. I think this is normal with a second child, and am sure it will pass soon.

Got really excited yesterday. Had definate very strong contractions. Lasted only 20 seconds each though, but went from 15 mins apart to less than 5 mins apart. Rang mw after an hour and she said to call back when they got to a minute long each. It was soooo exciting. Decided to drop ds off at PILS. BIG MISTAKE. The distraction/change of scenery/something stopped the contractions cold in their tracks. Had a few more contractions after coming home, but not as strong as earlier. And then NOTHING. Tried clary sage bath(TWICE)/birthing ball/walking etc to try and get them back but nothing worked so eventually went to sleep at 3am very disappointed. All so different from with DS when things sped to 10cms before mw even realised I was actually in labour. So much for second labours being short!! [RANT icon] NOTHING happening now.

pooka · 05/09/2005 22:16

Oh poor you Kiwikate How frustrating. I seem to get pains every night at about 3am, but I think that's more a result of moving into an uncomfortable position in my sleep and the baby protesting than a sign of labour.
Clitoral stimulation STM? I missed that one though I've heard about the nipple tweaking one.
Have had curry the last 2 nights, just scrubbed the kitchen floor on hands and knees, ate a whole pineapple today and yesterday, taken cauli...whatever (homeopathic) and drunk raspberry leaf tincture. But all this just seems to have excited the baby, which is now doing gymnastics, rather than prompting labour. Am having a sweep tomorrow when midwife comes, so we'll see if that works. dd excited as loves the midwife visits as likes watching when my tummy is checked, and midwife checks her tummy too (saying hmmmm...ham sandwich? crisps? chocolate). She checks all her toy animals' tummys too. Not sure how she'll feel about mummy having rather more than her tummy "checked". Hope she doesn't start checking nelly the elephant's cervix too.

KiwiKate · 06/09/2005 02:30

Thanks for the commisserations Pooka. These were DEFINATE contractions (I remember them from my labour with DS).

Sorry if TMI - but these contractions were definately brought on by sex (very strong contractions 5 minutes after the deed!). I'm sure this would have been it if we hadn't gone for our drive to PILs (where I am not very comfortable at the best of times).

The only self-help induction method you seem to have missed Pooka (other than sex for prostoglandin, and clitoral stimulation for increase in your oxytocin levels), seems to be bouncing (birthing ball or bumpy roads). Good luck with the sweep.

Redhelen · 06/09/2005 04:21

KiwiKate - sounds promising though!! - perhaps you and dh need to do it again!!

Can't sleep! stomach feels like a bowling ball! which is a shame as its much cooler here!

Any babies ready to be born???

zoezebra · 06/09/2005 05:26

Bubbles - Huge congratulations on your little girl, gorgeous name
I am up in the middle of the night - this time to do with milk coming in - forgot how painful it got . DH in bed with Jasper sleeping contentedly and I have just had a bath with hot flannels, stuck my Booby Tubes (a great US invention from Earth Mama Angel Baby) in my top to give warm moist heat and have just pumped on one side.....such a glamourous life!
I really am feeling it for all you preggers lot, come on babies. Hope to all of those who are getting early labour signs that this is it for you. I shall check back again in the morning to see if any more Sept babies have decided to make an appearance - fingers crossed. xx

pooka · 06/09/2005 07:26

Right...that's it...sex it is!
We'll just see if the sweep works first, though

mummyhill · 06/09/2005 08:04

Congratulations Bubbles and a huge mumsnet welcome to Mia Louise

Well Due date is here and I hope baby doesn't decide to make an appearance till at least midnight if it is going to behave and come on time cause I am feeling selfish and want today to myself.

DD starts Nursery today and I am feeling a bit sad about it, she has to wear a uniform and looks way to grown up sob sob.

Have been eating lots of curry and pinapple, rasberry leaf tea, clary sage baths and may start on the caulophyllum 200 tonight if baby decides to be lazy and stay put.

jessysmummy · 06/09/2005 09:23

CONGRATULATIONS Bubbles and welcome to sept thread's first little girl! Boy she was desparate to sneal in on the 4th, wasn't she - 23.59!!!!
ZoeZ - thanks for your story - gald all went ok and Jasper fine even if after a little scare. So far everyone seems to have had a relatively uncomplicated time...touch wood.
Pooka - I think I 'll still be here for thread #15, 16 and 17 at this rate! Absolutely no sign of anything!
KK - I would have DH strapped to the bed by now under orders not to move until contractions start again
Pooka - hope the sweep has the desired effect.

milward · 06/09/2005 09:51

Many congratulations bubbles and family xxx

Here I'm waiting - my dd3 was born at 38 weeks so perhaps this little one as well. As anyone measured their waistline? Mine is 49 inches (used to be 25!!) - don't know if I can get any bigger

Boompi · 06/09/2005 09:51

Congrats Bubbles

Nothing since Sunday night except on off cramps. Now that EDD has come and gone feel a bit despondant even though I know it will happen. I had two friends due around the same time as me - one on the same day and the other a fortnight after me. The first had hers 5 days ago and the second is having a section as I type. Feel left out Have tried ALL the self-induction techniques barring clary sage!

Good luck everyone.

Daisydot · 06/09/2005 09:53

Congratulations Bubbles. I love your daughter's name. It's sooooo pretty.
It's quite chilly here this morning and pouring with rain :-) Still waddling around on puffy ankles and wishing the 17th was tomorrow...... sigh...........

sarahhal · 06/09/2005 09:54

Congratulations Bubbles!

Come on girls, try and make it one a day now! It's so exciting to see if anyone has arrived over night when I log on in the morning.

Anyone want to swap houses? Have builders drilling through cement all day today - fortunately Thomas can sleep through it all but it's starting to REALLY annoy me now!

mummyhill · 06/09/2005 09:57

Have a headache and baby is quiet this morning. It is not allowed to arrive today as I am feeling selfish and old and a bit despondant that I can't go out for a drink tonight as has originally been planned, am quite glad that mil had us to dinner on sunday and my parents took us out for a meal on the evening as they knew I would not feel up to doing anything to celebrate tonight. However I will have to put up with a constant stream of visitors and phone calls.

ych · 06/09/2005 10:07

Congratulations Bubbles, the first girl, that's lovely.
Good luck to everyone else, sending lots of positive labour vibes. I'm still getting the odd crampy feeling but not much else happening. I'm not even at my due date yet and feeling fed up, think September could be a long month...

beatie · 06/09/2005 10:09

Morning everyone

Pooka ~ Good luck with the sweep. If you're feeling irrational and emotional at the moment that could also be a good sign of imminent labour - couldn't it?

Bubbles ~ Massive congratulations on the birth of your daughter. Mia is a beautiful name. I hope you are well.

KK ~ More sex, more sex, more sex (some strange internet 'friend' chants from the sidelines! I've read you need to do it 3 times in a day to guarantee effectiveness. D'you think DH is up to it?

Am I the only one with no pre-labour signs? OK, I have daily mucousy discharge (nice) but NO Braxton Hicks, twinges, back pain etc... Mind you, I'm on strong painkillers - there's a chance I would not feel the first twinges of labour. I'm pretty sure this baby won't come this week while I am feeling so out of sorts with my tooth. Babies are clever like that aren't they?

My DD started a new Pre-school today. I was awake last night feeling sad and nervous for her. If I feel like that over Pre-school (and it's not her first time in a nursery setting) then how am I going to feel about real school in 2 years time?!

Redhelen · 06/09/2005 10:16

milward - measure my waist - I'm not sure where it is /was!?

Ds - went off to school - he was a little worried as many people were saying not long till baby comes etc, etc - and he is now worried he'll miss it!

Feeling very lonely now hes at school, dh on a training course and my m&d have a nasty sickness bug (first thought is was food poisoning) so keeping away from them!!

Very tearfull today and had little sleep! not sure if these are good signs of labour coming or not!!

andif · 06/09/2005 10:20

No labour signs here. Two long walks yesterday did nothing except irritate my back. They have decided to resurface our road at night this week - that should be peaceful!! It will also be shut, so not sure what will happen if I go into labour and there's a pile of tarmac outside the drive - maybe I'll get driven to Kingston Hosp in a digger!!!
Congrats to Bubbles and family. Can't wait to join the new arrivals. Noticed yesterday that someone on the October thread has popped - definitely NOT fair.
Going to the hairdressers for that last pre-baby haircut today - can come tonight so I look OK in the photos!!!

LadyLazarus · 06/09/2005 10:20

Bubbles - massive CONGRATULATIONS and huge !!! Love the name too! Look forward to hearing more details of course

Another quiet yet sleepless night here Starting to wonder whether they should have left my due date at the 18th after all. Now I've just got my hopes up! It's all a bit vague tho, as my cycles were 28-34 days long (not the same each month tho). Aargh!

Franch - hope your acupuncture works for you. I will seriously consider it if I go past my date as well I think.

Beatie - 3 times a day?!! might have to pass on that one!

Pooka - good luck with the sweep. keep us posted!

Boompi · 06/09/2005 10:32

I am definately working off a normal 28 day cycle on my dates as my cycle was roughly 90 days before - doesnt bear thinking about as it would mean I could be pregnant for almost 12 months!!

mummyhill · 06/09/2005 10:34

((hugs)) Boompi

LadyLazarus · 06/09/2005 10:38

90 days? did it take you a long time to get pregnant? god, 12 months! don't say that!! I'm sure it'll be soon, you've been having some twinges which can only be a good sign

LadyLazarus · 06/09/2005 10:40

have taken andif's advice and have just got a hair appointment for this afternoon! Need serious glamming-up before the Big Day! Need something a bit more manageable too, as having long hair even now is becoming a bit of a drag (ie. can't be bothered to blow-dry it!!)... might get something shorter (just bob-type length tho, no skinheads here)

jessysmummy · 06/09/2005 11:07

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mummyhill!
Hope baby gives you a nice birthday pressie and stays put for now.
I've got a hairdresser's appt this pm too. Will have to get a lot cut off though if it's going to last me until baby comes...

zubb · 06/09/2005 11:12

Congratulations Bubbles

No signs of anything happening here either, and 2 days till DD.
Ds1 was back at playschool this morning and is a bit confused as most of his friends have gone to big school and there are a lot of new kids there. Ds2 is confused as well as he likes ds1 to be around.
Still working as well - have decided that if baby not here by the weekend will stop working anyway, though not sure what I will do as the builders start Monday as well.
