G'morning.

Thanks for the coats discussion - before it gets too nippy. Good idea to check out styles in the non-mat ranges. If not, I think I'll be heading to New Look too, for a bargain deal. Red sounds like an idea, be wobbling down the street like a big round tomato by March Grin

Sorry about your flu Larty - preg symptoms + flu sounds nasty. Hope you feel better soon.

Jupiter very hormonal here too - yesterday was not a good day - all this talk about child benefit cuts let to massive paranoia, tears, & then of course a headache. Yum. Feeling more settled today.

Welcome & congrats to Southsearocks. Definitely a roller coaster!

doubleshotlatte · 06/10/2010 10:39

Hello again,
So lovely to read all your news and see some matching symptoms, Been away from this thread too long - what with taking DD1 (2.5) to playgroup, nursery and all sorts going on - I'm not getting to enjoy this pergnancy at all. Which is such a pity as it will be my last (I'm 40) Sad and I usually have no annoying symptoms. But with an active toddler around, the little tiredness becomes complete exhaustion, a bit of a twinge becomes an awful bachache (from carrying her).. not fun Hmm

And now DD has a fever and cold. Her third in 3 months. The curse of playgroup! Really hope its not Strep and worried what being up all night pacing with heavy toddler is doing to me...

Am sort of envious of those of you having your first Smile it was such a lovely time for me, with nothing to distract from just the baby I was expecting.

doubleshotlatte · 06/10/2010 10:51

Ooh! I almost forgot to say - I've felt my first little kicks and flutters from the L.O. inside!! I know, just week 17 so it's early.

The advantage (the only one) of being a 2nd pregnancy Smile

Felt most kicks when lying down/resting and when I bend down (I often forget I'm pregnant Hmm )

Lozario · 06/10/2010 12:49

doubleshotlatte ha I know what you mean about forgetting you're pregnant with a little one around - my ds (15 months) had just started walking so I'm chasing after him all the time, and the other downside is you get all their weird illnesses - guess what I've got at the moment - hand, foot and mouth disease!!!!! Just spots on hands feet and mouth (surprisingly) and a sore throat, but it's not something you expect to get aged 30!!!

StrangewaysHereICome · 06/10/2010 13:04

Hello all - welcome and congrats southsearocks I hope your worries are over and you can relax and enjoy being pg - easier said than done I know!

I just want to wish spilt all the best for 20 week scan tomorrow. I have mine tomorrow too. Also anyone else with scans coming up soon.

I have just bought up the skincare range in Boots this morning in an attempt to sort out my spotty face - I am not amused, feel like a teenager again Angry!!

1Catherine1 · 06/10/2010 13:18

Strange, I know exactly how you feel. In the last week I've had so many spots that 2 nights ago I hunted out the mud face mask to clear up all the grease my skin has suddenly developed. My OH boss insists this means that I'm having a girl something to do with stealing beauty and the different hormones when you're having a girl. My OH even has a bet running on the sex of the child. I however am convinced we're having a boy for no apparent reason. Can't wait for my scan to find out. :)

mixedmamameansbusiness · 06/10/2010 13:32

Wow.... 20 week scans are starting. Incredible. Half way.

All good in the mixed household... not much to report.

jeffily · 06/10/2010 15:01

Hello all

Been so busy here, not had a chance to check in at all or post! Was enjoying the chat re maternity coats, till I remembered that I do actually have a rather nice purple one. Have now been hunting for it for about an hour with no success. God knows where i have put it. Am now annoyed!

Have been feeling lots of wriggles and bangs, especially when DD is squashing her brother/sister, and the back ache really rang a bell dslatte. Some evenings I put her to bed and literally have to limp to the sofa. Dh thinks I am being a drama queen, but it HURTS! I keep thinking I should start not holding her so much, she is 18mo now after all, but then she snuggles her little baldy head into my shoulder and whispers "mummy" and I decide to just enjoy the time to snuggle her while I still have it!

larty we have been talking names quite a lot. I think because everything was so uncertain for so long and we weren't believing it was going to happen, now that we know all is well we are really planning for it! We still like our boy's name from last time- Stanley Arthur- though DH loves it that way round, and I am now leaning more for Arthur as a first name. And for a little girl our front runner is Esme Hope. When everything was so scary after our high NT we decided that if the baby was ok and a girl her middle name would definately be Hope, so the first name is the only one that is in discussion. DH also likes Cora and Robyn- but I think you would have to be born in winter to be a Robyn and am just not sure about Cora. So exciting to think about it though! Have you discovered babynamewizard? It's quite fun!

Anyway, am only at home as am on PPA and should be planning my lessons, and my 7am-6pm trip with my class next week. Confused Not sure how I am going to get through 6 hours in total on a coach with 30 9yr olds. Guess I just have to take my knitting!

Larty74 · 06/10/2010 16:52

Jeffily love your choice for middle name Hope - sounds perfect for you! and well done Catherine for having them picked out already.

We talk about them alot too, but still are lacking in boys. then I think is that why I'm slightly preferring a girl? ugh. we are leaning toward finding out what it is anyway, so could eliminate either side of it v soon! two more weeks till next scan. Cannot believe we are nearly half way.

Got us into the NCT class I was desperate to get in. very, very local and perfect timing. It already felt like the race was on to get into your 1st choice school. geez.

Bought myself a body-bolster pillow and cover today and cannot wait to try it out tonight. been using my throw cushion from the bed.

Going on a bit now. still bored from man-flu, but much better today actually. should be back to school by Friday.

Larty74 · 06/10/2010 16:54

Oh, and Babynamewizard is fun!

spilttheteaagain · 06/10/2010 18:21

Strangeways thank you! Wishing you all the best too Smile It's worrying and exciting in equal measure.

I'm with those of you struggling with your backs aching, and I don't have any toddlers to heft around.

Has anyone used anything like this for sleeping? Was it good?

I'm impressed with those of you picking out names already, that's very organised! Arthur's a great name jeffily

Lozario · 06/10/2010 18:44

spilt I'm using my breastfeeding pillow for sleeping, it's curved so part can go under my tummy and part between my legs for hip support. I'd recommend getting one of them and then you have it ready for breastfeeding too - and they are also good for putting the baby in to sit up when they're still not quite reliable on their own!

gem3225 · 06/10/2010 18:44

Hi everyone

Got my 18 week mw app tomorrow, so excited to hear the heartbeat. Fingers crossed all us ok. Not sure what will happen tomorrow at the Docs but should be straight forward.

Had major achy boobs the past 2 days n headaches too.
Bump is showing abit n now getting a bit hard!!!

Having thoughts on a water birth but dh is not to sure!!

spilttheteaagain · 06/10/2010 18:55

gem I found a good way to sell the waterbirth to my DH was as mess containment Wink
(I've booked a homebirth on a cream carpet so having a large plastic container appealed to him!)

gem3225 · 06/10/2010 18:57

That's excellent I love it. May use that one.
This is my first so I'm not sure if I'll be ok . Like the idea though

spilttheteaagain · 06/10/2010 19:06

Ladies, before I possibly make a pillock of myself at the scan tomorrow, can I pick your brains on dating pregnancies? I am kind of expecting to be told my baby is "small" for dates, but actually I think my dating scan was about a week out.

As I understand it, actual pregnancy is 38 weeks from conception to birth? (to get to 40 weeks, they add 2 weeks that in theory takes you back to your period, assuming ovulation on day 14)

My dates were:
Period started: 31/05, lasted 5 days
Ovulated: 11/06, on CD12
Usually have 10 day luteal phase so was expecting next period on 21/06, got BFP on 24/06

So, counting forward 38 weeks (or 266 days) from ovulation (assuming conception was that day, or possibly the day after) gives an EDD of 04/03/2011.

This was the due date I originally worked out and hence why I am in the March group Grin

However my dating scan came up with EDD 25/02/2011, a whole week earlier, so I reckon there must be a margin of error/big baby??

To have an EDD of 25/02/2011 I would need to have conceived on 04/06, i.e. CD5 when I was still on my period. Surely this would be nonsense?

Do the NHS think you are talking out of your arse/clueless if you try to argue dates with them?

Purplefan · 06/10/2010 20:07

Hi all,

I bring more exciting and positive news!!! Grin
Had scan with cardiac specialist today and she had a really good look at baby, taking measurements etc. She said that her heart is looking great with no abnormalities evident at present and everything else is looking good too. The only thing is her thigh bone is a little short, however as we know baby has turners this is not unusual!

We are seeing her again in 2 weeks time and she will have another good look as baby will be bigger then. Smile
Feeling very happy and so sure that we made the right decision to give our little girl a chance.

Larty hope you are feeling better and that you are on the mend from the flu!!
We have been thinking of names, but only because we know its def a girl!!!

Spilt Not sure bout all this dates stuff, to be honest they did that with our DD1, I knew when I had had LMP and also could pin down date that I concieved, but of course I had to be wrong and their dates were right!!!

Take care all xx

spilttheteaagain · 06/10/2010 20:23

Fantastic news purplefan, you must be so chuffed!! Grin

EvianBaby · 06/10/2010 20:23

Hi all

Sorry I haven't posted in ages... I've been so busy with work, toddler, general life!

Lovely to read through everyones posts and catch up.

purplefan - that's EXCELLENT news!!! Congratulations! Things are really looking positive for you, you deserve it!

gem - I have my 18 week appt tomorrow too, mine is with my MW. Hoping to hear the HB as i'm not sure I have felt the baby move much and as this is my second I really should have I think. However after reading the previous posts on HB/foetal movement etc I'm not sure that hearing it will in fact put my mind at rest Confused

jeffily - I love, love, love your name choices!! Absolutely lovely.

Hi to everyone, my tired brain won't let me remember what everyone has been saying but I have really enjoyed reading it all.

Off to Disneyland Paris a week today for DS birthday, very excited Smile

Take care everyone x

Oceanbreeze · 06/10/2010 21:05

Fantastic news Purplefan

jeffily lovely names, we've mentioned Arthur a few times. We actually spent 26 days playing an alphabet game - one letter a day, as many names as we could think of. Since then lots of things like looking at credits at the end of tv progs for name inspiration. But apart from playful suggestions, we're waiting until we find out the gender to hopefully reduce the squabbling Grin

spilt sorry I can't help with dates either. They changed my due date by 10 days at my scan, which seemed a lot to me, but I didn't bother arguing, so don't know how they would take it.

Oceanbreeze · 06/10/2010 21:18

Also, anyone know if cravings are sposed to start at a particular time? Have been quite looking forward to sending him out at 4am for some instant whip & an artichoke (or whatever bizarro combo I come up with), but so far, nothing. So very disappointing Wink

Muser · 06/10/2010 21:19

Wonderful news purple!

OP posts:
Larty74 · 06/10/2010 22:16

Purple so pleased to hear your news!

1Catherine1 · 06/10/2010 23:33

Excellent news Purple! I look forward to hearing some more in 2 weeks :)

Split I think arguing with the NHS is a waste of time. I know the sonographer that did my dating scan asked me if I was sure I had my dates right and I assured her I was absolutely positive. I was TTC so I was keeping a record of my cycle on a spreadsheet (OCD at it's worst). I think she was considering changing my dates but in the end left them alone. There is no harm in simply pointing out that you don't understand how your ovulation cycle matches up with your dates. Play dumb, they will feel obliged to explain it and maybe it will make sense.

This evening I had a bit of an emotional breakdown after I went out to get some bits and my car was nearly hit by a police car making an extremely stupid manoeuvre (over-taking a cyclist on a bend in the dark). I spent the next 15 minutes crying after considering if my reactions had been a second slower I and the baby could be in hospital. I complete over reaction because I did react quickly and my reactions are usually always quick when driving! When I got to Tesco's though I decided to indulge myself in a bit of retail therapy and bought a photo album for my baby pictures (already put my 12 week scan pictures in it) and a cute little baby outfit. I know, it's way to soon to be doing things like that but it made me happy! Anyone else bought anything yet? I know it is still really early!

gem3225 · 07/10/2010 06:35

Hi everyone

Great news Purple very happy for you.

Evianbaby good luck today with the MW let me know how it goes. I too am bit anxious and cant wait to hear the little heartbeat. Im sure all will be fine though so dont worry. I'm not sure bout the movements really, had lots of bubbles but think its wind!!!
But not too long to wait for our 20 weeker and that will put our minds at ease.

Have a good day
