hello

I HAVE A GORGEOUS 21 MONTH OLD SON NAMED ELLIOT AND ON FRIDAY HAD ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL BABY BOY BY C SECTION. (I THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE BEEN A GIRL THIS TIME) wE HAVE BEEN DEBATING ABOUT NAMES. WE HAD THE FOLLOWING NAMES SHORTLISTED:-

JOSHUA
CALLUM
LEWIS

AND MY HUSBAND ALSO LIKED THE FOLLOWING NAMES AS WELL:-

WILLIAM
REESE
ROSS

AT THE BIRTH WE WERE ASKED ABOUT NAME AND WE WERE THINKING OF JOSHUA (BUT NOT SURE IF THIS WAS REALLY TOO POPULAR). SURGEON SAID THAT IT WAS SO MY HUSBAND SAID WHAT ABOUT WILLIAM - EVEN SHORTENED TO WILL. I WAS SO RELIEVED TO GET THROUGH THE C SECTION THAT I SAID OK AS I DID NOT WANT MY SON TO HAVE A NAME WHERE THERE WOULD BE ANOTHER 3 OF THEM IN THE SAME CLASS.

ON THE 2ND DAY IN HOSPITAL MY FAMILY CAME TO VISIT AND MY 2 SISTERS AND BROTHR SAID THEY THOUGHT WILLIAM WAS OLD FASHIONED AND THAT I SHOULDN'T CALL HIM THAT. WHY DON'T I STICK WITH MY ORIGINAL NAME OF JOSHUA OR CALLAM. THEY REALLY DIDN'T LIKE IT AND THIS UPSET/OFFENDED ME AS I DIDN'T EXPECT THEM TO BEHAVE LIKE THIS AND ALSO WANT MY FAMILY TO LIKE THE NAME OR AT LEAST NOT BE SO VOCAL ABOUT IT AND BE MORE SUPPORTIVE. I THEN WENT THROUGH THE NAME BOOK AGAIN AND AM NOT SURE WHAT TO NAME HIM:-

WILLIAM FOX
WILL FOX
JOSHUA FOX
CALLAM FOX
DILLON FOX
TOBIAS FOX
MASON FOX

HUSBAND LIKES WILLIAM OR WILL FOX. MY HUSBAND WAS REALLY ANNOYED WITH HOW MY FAMILY REACTED.

ANY FEEDBACK WOULD BE GREAT!! THANK YOU

Ignore your family and call him what you and your DH want to call him.

But not Reese, Mason or Callam (unless that was a typo)

SoupDragon · 15/01/2007 19:23

Meant to add a at the end of that!!

and a "congratulations".

shimmy21 · 15/01/2007 19:25

You like William and that is what matters. William is a lovely name. Stick to your guns and don't live through later wishful thinking - if only we'd called him that

We can't choose names to please everyone. If I'd tried to do that ds2 would never have had a name at all. It's what you and dh like that matters.

MerlinsBeard · 15/01/2007 19:25

congratulations

call him what you want to, and your dp of course!

I have a Joshua and theres only 1 of him in his class, there is also a William, both of which go with your surname. Leave it for now, there are 6 weeks beofe u need to opfficially name him, see which name you prefer then

MerlinsBeard · 15/01/2007 19:26

or William Joshua

DumbledoresGirl · 15/01/2007 19:26

William is a lovely name - very adaptable: Will, Willy, (well some people still use that!) Bill.

If it is what you like, ignore your family. I sure did when I named my children!

Oh and congratulations too!

shimmy21 · 15/01/2007 19:27

Yes, congratulations.

And by the way - having 2 boys is just the best fun

Pinkchampagne · 15/01/2007 19:28

Don't let your family influence you, call your son what you (& DH of course) want to.
I prefer William to Callum, Reece & Mason, but I like traditional names. My DS2 has William as a middle name!

Skyler · 15/01/2007 19:28

Blimey how rude are your family . I love the name William and he can be a Will if he wants. Will is a cool name. He gets the option that way and can be William again if he wants to be a lawyer later in life .
I like Lewis too.
Joshua is VERY popular and I am afraid Callum makes me think of Callum Best YUK!
Congratulations.
I am afraid I think your family have behaved very badly.
William is a classic good strong name. I love it. Stick to your guns.
(some of the other names sound a bit American movie star to me.)
Well done and enjoy your beautiful boy.

buktus · 15/01/2007 19:29

i love will we would have had will but couldnt because of the surname

WelshBoris · 15/01/2007 19:29

I love

Tobias
Rhys

Chamomile · 15/01/2007 19:32

Congratulations! Another vote for William or Will, here.

Tutter · 15/01/2007 19:36

Congratulations on the new arrival! Hope you are doing ok! Here's my opinions on the name situation....
I really like William, shortened to Will or left alone. A friend of mine once said that a boy's name should be able to carry him through any career choice and should therefore be a strong name (her ds is called Charles but is known as Charlie). It's a good strong name and isn't a fashion name either. Joshua is getting common, and that's not good. Even though it's a really old biblical name it seems to be up there on the fashion list! I'm not keen on Callum, probably because Callum Best is a big tart and I'm fed up with hearing about his sexual conquests! Dylan's good (DH wanted to name our DS that), Tobias is always shortened to Toby and that's a dog's name (sorry, but how many dogs have you met called Toby? It's a jack russell or terrier type name!!!!) and Mason Fox sounds like he would be a complete w*&%£r, city boy banker type (am I being really harsh?, sorry if I am!)
Basically, it's whatever name you like and your hubby too and sod the family! Everyone thought our choice of name was silly (DS is called Leonard after his great grandad but we call him Leo - he will only get Leonard if he is very, very naughty because it is an old man's name and a bit dodgy!!!!)My mum was not pleased about the name at all, but then she didn't like most of my choices (I don't like hers - my brother is called Justin and that's a bit gay IMHO!)
At the end of the day, families are a pain in the arse and you just smile sweetly and nod when they give you their advice and then go and do exactly what you were going to do in the first place!!!!!
Good luck with your choice and please let us know what you decided. Enjoy your new bundle of joy, whatever he is called xxx ps Elliot is a very nice name, I have another friend with a son called Elliot, his little brother is called Oliver!

Congratulations , I'd go for William shortened to Will and not listen to your family. My mum did the same thing to me and I backed down and changed it, but I wouldn't do that again.

can I just point out that if he is called Will and he is a lawyer he can STILL be called Will. My dh is!

lulumama · 15/01/2007 19:47

firstly, big congratulations on the safe arrival of your boy ! well done you !

will fox is cool as is dillon / dylan

go with the name you and DH like ! xxxxxx

Ellaroo · 15/01/2007 19:47

I love Tobias Fox - that sounds fantastic. However, as you'll know from your first child it only takes a couple of months and then you child is the embodiment of the name you have chosen and it's just 'them' rather than a name in a name book - so am sure that anything you pick your (hurtfully vocal) family will grow to love.

sexkittyinwaiting · 15/01/2007 19:48

You and your your dp must call him what YOU like. I like William but it is SO VERY, VERY over used atm, there are so many Williams knocking about. In your situation I would find something I liked that was a bit more unique. Personally out of your list I prefer Dillon.

sockmonkey · 15/01/2007 19:50

Congratulations! two boys are great fun I can tell ya!

Another vote for William here. My DS2 was going to be Joshua right up till a week before he was due, but I kept comming across other kids called Joshua, so we picked Samuel instead.

IMO You did all the hard work, you should get to name the little fella.

mamama · 15/01/2007 19:50

I like William too! Go with whatever you like. My mum was obviously disappointed with Ds's name but loves him all the same. He couldn't have been called anything else!

oxocube · 15/01/2007 19:51

Huge congrats Foxy! My ds1 is a William, usually called Will. I still love the name and he is 11! Actually, he is the only Will in his school. Will Fox is very cool!
