hello

I HAVE A GORGEOUS 21 MONTH OLD SON NAMED ELLIOT AND ON FRIDAY HAD ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL BABY BOY BY C SECTION. (I THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE BEEN A GIRL THIS TIME) wE HAVE BEEN DEBATING ABOUT NAMES. WE HAD THE FOLLOWING NAMES SHORTLISTED:-

JOSHUA
CALLUM
LEWIS

AND MY HUSBAND ALSO LIKED THE FOLLOWING NAMES AS WELL:-

WILLIAM
REESE
ROSS

AT THE BIRTH WE WERE ASKED ABOUT NAME AND WE WERE THINKING OF JOSHUA (BUT NOT SURE IF THIS WAS REALLY TOO POPULAR). SURGEON SAID THAT IT WAS SO MY HUSBAND SAID WHAT ABOUT WILLIAM - EVEN SHORTENED TO WILL. I WAS SO RELIEVED TO GET THROUGH THE C SECTION THAT I SAID OK AS I DID NOT WANT MY SON TO HAVE A NAME WHERE THERE WOULD BE ANOTHER 3 OF THEM IN THE SAME CLASS.

ON THE 2ND DAY IN HOSPITAL MY FAMILY CAME TO VISIT AND MY 2 SISTERS AND BROTHR SAID THEY THOUGHT WILLIAM WAS OLD FASHIONED AND THAT I SHOULDN'T CALL HIM THAT. WHY DON'T I STICK WITH MY ORIGINAL NAME OF JOSHUA OR CALLAM. THEY REALLY DIDN'T LIKE IT AND THIS UPSET/OFFENDED ME AS I DIDN'T EXPECT THEM TO BEHAVE LIKE THIS AND ALSO WANT MY FAMILY TO LIKE THE NAME OR AT LEAST NOT BE SO VOCAL ABOUT IT AND BE MORE SUPPORTIVE. I THEN WENT THROUGH THE NAME BOOK AGAIN AND AM NOT SURE WHAT TO NAME HIM:-

WILLIAM FOX
WILL FOX
JOSHUA FOX
CALLAM FOX
DILLON FOX
TOBIAS FOX
MASON FOX

HUSBAND LIKES WILLIAM OR WILL FOX. MY HUSBAND WAS REALLY ANNOYED WITH HOW MY FAMILY REACTED.

ANY FEEDBACK WOULD BE GREAT!! THANK YOU

Congratulations!

Not sure if you have decided on a name yet but if you like William then stick with it. One of my friends has been swayed by her families opinions on her baby name choices and regrets it. He is your baby afterall!

By the by, I think Elliott and William is lovely together And William is a versatile name, he can be William, Will, Bill, Billy and Liam.

Aloha · 15/01/2007 23:33

I LOVE William as a name and Will is a very cool name. You could be a film star, a high court judge or anything really. Would suit anyone and isn't too trendy or try-hard.

DollyPopsOut · 16/01/2007 06:31

Congratulations! Hope you are all well.

Ignore the family and go with what you want. They'll learn to love it (most likely) or they won't, in which case they can lump it. Personally I would have William - would love that for DB2 but (a) she's a girl and )b) nephew is Liam so a bit too similar. My BIL is Tobias (known as Toby) so I cam quite fond of that. I like Dillon, but there are loads of them round here so that would put me off a little I think.

I think Mason Fox sounds like a law firm, so personally wouldn't go for that! But completely up to you.

Take care.

bewilderbeast · 16/01/2007 06:48

Congratulations and welcome to baby Fox. Whatever name you choose for him will be perfect.

katelyle · 16/01/2007 06:49

There are 4 Callums in my DS's year group! And 2 Lewiss and 3 Connors. (and 5 Emilys btw) No WIlliams, though. Go for Will - it's none of your family's business. My nephew is called Oscar which I personally hate, but I would't dream of saying anything to my brother about it. My dd's called Grace, and a very dear relation of mine was watching her playing when she was about 5 said "You know, I thought that name was such a mistake when she was born, but now I think it's lovely and perfect for her. Your horrible lot will be the same about Will.

Kittypickle · 16/01/2007 07:57

Congratulations !! I think your family have a right cheek commenting on the name you have chosen to give your DS. I personally think William/Will is a lovely fame and goes very nicely with your surname. I am a bit biased as we were going to call our DS it but unfortunetly our surname begins with W and it sounded very odd with William.

lionheart · 16/01/2007 21:40

Congratulations and what a blooming cheek they have! You name him: they get used to it, that's how it is ... !

sockmonkey · 17/01/2007 09:02

Foxy1 - Have you decided yet? No pressure or anything, but I WANT TO KNOW

bootsmonkey · 17/01/2007 09:27

Will Fox is a fab & cool name and Billy is really nice for a little boy too. Tobias Fox also has a really good ring to it. Ignore your family and choose what you want!!!

bootsmonkey · 17/01/2007 09:27

oooh - sock monkey - are we related???

wilkie50 · 17/01/2007 09:42

Will Fox is FAB!!! Film star name

sockmonkey · 17/01/2007 09:59

Bootsmonkey - We do go well together eh?

nogoes · 17/01/2007 10:00

Tobias is my faveourite. Congratulations by the way.

annieapple7 · 17/01/2007 11:17

William is a lovely name a classic. Ignore your family.

I had the same experience when I called my DS2 Solomon. My mother screamed when I told her and kept going on and on about awful it was. His hair looked a bit shall we say, strawberry blonde when he was born, and my mother remarked, "Oh my God - he is called Solomon and he is ginger."

I love the name and am glad I stuck with it - I certainly haven't come across any others!

But if you are not convinced about your choice it is harder. You have 6 weeks to decide. Don't rush it, try each name for size. But don't let your family influence you - I say better a traditional name that something modern and trendy that will become very dated in future.

uwila · 17/01/2007 15:47

He's your son. Pick the name YOU like. It is your right and your priviledge as William's parents to choose the name(s).

However, if you don't want him to have a popular name, William might not be the choice for you.

I'm not going to tell you which one I like because it doesn't matter... oh ok, I like Joshua.

sweetkitty · 17/01/2007 16:04

I think William is a great name and you obviously have great taste as your DD1 is called my favourite boys name in the world Elliot

congratulations ignore your family and call your darling boy what you want to call him, theres always someone will say something about the name you chose anyway, you cannot please everyone so please yourselves!

Peridot30 · 17/01/2007 16:10

Foxy1
I wouldn't worry what anyone says bout your choice of name. William is a classic name and its also ds middle name so i think good choice

No one liked my ds's first name when we told them and now 5yrs down the line everyone loves it. Its really unusual and 'not a normal name' as someone said but we loved it and thats all that mattered.

Let us know what you decided on.

tortoiseSHELL · 17/01/2007 16:15

William Fox is a GREAT name. William is very popular, but timeless as well iyswim - better than a name that will date. Ignore your family. When dd was born, my dad asked if we were 'going to use her second name', assuming her first name was too awful! We weren't. And didn't.

chipmonkey · 17/01/2007 16:15

My Mum and MIL were both quite rude about ds3's name. Mum said she had been bullied at school by a boy of that name. But it has grown on her, I think!

mosschops30 · 17/01/2007 16:21

William is lovely and I think Will for when hes older is great, sounds like a good-looking bloke

Also like Tobias, friends ds is Tobias (his brother is Joshua) and its lovely

foxy1 · 19/01/2007 18:41
