hello

I HAVE A GORGEOUS 21 MONTH OLD SON NAMED ELLIOT AND ON FRIDAY HAD ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL BABY BOY BY C SECTION. (I THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE BEEN A GIRL THIS TIME) wE HAVE BEEN DEBATING ABOUT NAMES. WE HAD THE FOLLOWING NAMES SHORTLISTED:-

JOSHUA
CALLUM
LEWIS

AND MY HUSBAND ALSO LIKED THE FOLLOWING NAMES AS WELL:-

WILLIAM
REESE
ROSS

AT THE BIRTH WE WERE ASKED ABOUT NAME AND WE WERE THINKING OF JOSHUA (BUT NOT SURE IF THIS WAS REALLY TOO POPULAR). SURGEON SAID THAT IT WAS SO MY HUSBAND SAID WHAT ABOUT WILLIAM - EVEN SHORTENED TO WILL. I WAS SO RELIEVED TO GET THROUGH THE C SECTION THAT I SAID OK AS I DID NOT WANT MY SON TO HAVE A NAME WHERE THERE WOULD BE ANOTHER 3 OF THEM IN THE SAME CLASS.

ON THE 2ND DAY IN HOSPITAL MY FAMILY CAME TO VISIT AND MY 2 SISTERS AND BROTHR SAID THEY THOUGHT WILLIAM WAS OLD FASHIONED AND THAT I SHOULDN'T CALL HIM THAT. WHY DON'T I STICK WITH MY ORIGINAL NAME OF JOSHUA OR CALLAM. THEY REALLY DIDN'T LIKE IT AND THIS UPSET/OFFENDED ME AS I DIDN'T EXPECT THEM TO BEHAVE LIKE THIS AND ALSO WANT MY FAMILY TO LIKE THE NAME OR AT LEAST NOT BE SO VOCAL ABOUT IT AND BE MORE SUPPORTIVE. I THEN WENT THROUGH THE NAME BOOK AGAIN AND AM NOT SURE WHAT TO NAME HIM:-

WILLIAM FOX
WILL FOX
JOSHUA FOX
CALLAM FOX
DILLON FOX
TOBIAS FOX
MASON FOX

HUSBAND LIKES WILLIAM OR WILL FOX. MY HUSBAND WAS REALLY ANNOYED WITH HOW MY FAMILY REACTED.

ANY FEEDBACK WOULD BE GREAT!! THANK YOU

CD, my Will wants to be a lawyer

Miaou · 15/01/2007 19:54

My ds is called Calum Lewis!! So you obviously have good taste

But from what you said, I would definitely go with William - so versatile, as he can be Will for short (or any other choice he wants!)

Ignore your family - they are rude! They will come round in time anyway

brandnewhelsy · 15/01/2007 19:55

Congratulations!
William is lovely, and William Fox sounds fab - William was our only choice if we'd had a boy (we didn't). If it's what you like and it suits him (dd2 was going to be Isabelle but clearly wasn't when she came out so we changed it), then keep it! My family was the same - lots of criticism over what we called dd2 and my nana refuses to call her by her name, but I don't give a .

ELF1981 · 15/01/2007 19:55

William is a lovely name, stick to your guns!!

From your list my faves are William, Joshua & Lewis.

If I had a son, I would have called him Joshua but my married name is Foss and Josh Foss is a bit of a tongue twister so thats out the window, so if our next baby is a boy, we're having Lewis.

Congratulations

ELF1981 · 15/01/2007 19:56

(by the way, when I said I wanted to call my baby Evelyn if she was a girl, my mum tutted, said it was a horrible name and she'd never known a nice Evelyn. I stuck to my guns, fifteen months on she couldn't be anything but Evelyn, and my mum says the loves the name!)

Fimbo · 15/01/2007 20:00

I think Will is lovely. But at my dd's school there are lots of Wills/Williams but not one Joshua! How about Willem? My mother told me only last week that she dislikes my son's middle name (he's 3) but it is the name my dh and I chose and it has nothing to do with her.

Biglips · 15/01/2007 20:01

William is a good name as now the old-fashioned names are all coming back into fashion.

aDad · 15/01/2007 20:01

agree with sticking to your guns. Forget your family, it's your choice, nobody else's. Most names that are 'in' right now are old fashioned, or were considered it a few years ago.

vickiyumyum · 15/01/2007 20:03

ooh i say william as i love th name might be a bit biased as ds2 is william and hes lovely! we chose wiliam so it could be will, or william.

although just asked dh which name he liked best and he said dillon fox!

CountessDracula · 15/01/2007 20:05

just say to your annoying family

Oh we have been thinking and yes you are right, William is not good. We have decided instead on Anus Cattermole Fox

After that they will be happy with William i assure you

MerryMarigold · 15/01/2007 20:12

Will Fox is a brilliant name...

Skyler · 15/01/2007 20:16

I am PMSL at the fact I wrote a lawyer would want to be William not Will. Reading it back it sounds ridiculous. Thanks for flagging that up CD

Foxy1 - Are we helping at all?

duke · 15/01/2007 20:35

My dad chose my brothers names on the basis that you could shout them well over a noisey pub. Mike, Dan, Luke and joel. Quick nip to the pub and shout I'm sure you've got time. Will fox is ace! Oi foxy mines a pint.

SmileysPeople · 15/01/2007 20:42

William is my most favourite boys name. We couldn't call our DS's that though as it's the same as our surname!!
I love it shortened to Will as well, that is very cool.

And congratulations, boys rock.

Gingerbear · 15/01/2007 20:47

William is strong, timeless and classic, stick to your guns and ignore your family.

Joshua is nice for a middle name.

Well my vote would be for Dylan, but my youngest little man is Dylan so a little biased there

William/Will Fox is a cool name and one which will stay great throughout his life. We also have a Caleb (as you may have guessed) and had a range of reactions to his name at first, but we loved it and he couldn't possibly be anything else now! Doesn't matter what anyone else but you and your partner think.

calebsmummy · 15/01/2007 20:50

Oh and how rude of me not to say 'CONGRATULATIONS!!'

And yes, boys are fab (I have 3 )

skiwear · 15/01/2007 21:08

congrats lucky you. imho choose a name you like try not to let your family influence you too much.I like nearly all your choices William/Will goes well with Fox Joshua also lovely and they go well together!Funny things names I know /hear in the playground loads of Sams and Maxs but only 1 William (who is in our family!)

GILLIAN74 · 15/01/2007 21:17

Congratulations Will is a lovely name, go for it and don't listen to anyone regarding your choice of name for your ds. Both mine and dp family thought we were kidding when we named our son and now nearly 3 years on they and complete strangers love it.

Beauregard · 15/01/2007 21:26

Congratulations Foxy1
I think that William is a nice name ,ignore the insensitive comments made by your family.
My mil has practically rolled her eyes on both the occasions we have named our dc and even made the comment "Im naming the next one!"
Yeah right you are silly cow, lol.

soph28 · 15/01/2007 21:31

Congratulations!! You're doing well to be on MN so quickly.

I think Will Fox is lovely. I also love Tobias (but my ds is Toby- dh wouldn't allow Tobias).

I think Joshua is too popular- know loads of baby Joshuas. Using it as a middle name is a good idea, in fact we did that too (Toby Joseph).

mrsnoah · 15/01/2007 21:35

Ah well done you!

Dont announce the name for a week. Ignore all the pestering about it.
Shout a few up the stairs to hear them aloud!

I think Tobias Fox has a bit of a ring to it.

Master Tobias Fox.

(Toby Fox).. Hmmm yes, that's a good one.

Whichever you choose, you will like it.

itsazoohere · 15/01/2007 22:29

Really like Will Fox! I also like Dylan, but think there may be a surge in them because of Catherine Zeta Jones. But it really is just up to you two! My babe (if it ever arrives) will be Lenny if a boy after DP's dad who died unexpectedly last yr. It was very difficult for my DP as he had only just found him after years of no contact. My DP and I decided on the name soon after finding out I was pregnant. Despite knowing the situation and having 35 wks to get used to the name, my DSis and mother are still trying to put me off it! DS says it is chavy and mother says it is just plain horrible. It hurts, but am learning to ignore them!

CountessDracula · 15/01/2007 22:33

I must say Anus Cattermole is growing on me too
