Yuk, yuk, yuk. Sorry to anyone who's still pregnant but bloody hell! Baby waterwitch arrived at home last night at 10.15pm after a horrible, brutal and shocking 7 hour labour. For a supposedly easier second baby she sure wasn't. (different partner though for anyone worrying - ex dh was Indian and 5'11", my now dp is Caucasian, 6'4" - apparently Indian babies are usually smaller according to my ex MIL) Wondered why it bloody hurt so much only to discover that she was 9lb bloody 8oz, which is why I needed 2 stitches and have various vile tears. Screamed the house down, thank god ds was at my mum's. It was much harder than last time since ds was only 7lb and the midwives said I was most definitely not a wuss and managed really well considering her size and mine (I'm 5'3" ) They got a bit worried towards the end as her shoulder was stuck but they screamed at me to push so I did, to the sound of my perineum tearing. Ouch, ouch, ouch. Still, I'm glad she's finally here after all the angst, although it's a shame my fear turned out to be justified. Despite it all, I'm glad I stayed at home since the midwives agreed I'd have ended up with some kind of intervention if I'd have been in hospital (like drugs? Shit, should have gone in then ) and at least dp was with me and we were all go to sleep in our own bed when it was all over. Wouldn't ever do it again if you paid me a million quid. Good job I don't have to then...Still no name, suggestions welcome.

Scummy, you're a very funny woman! Emmatmg, yes, I do remember laughing at your DH being forced to share in your joy that I was pregnant, ha ha. Cam, you're right, it's dp's first and he's overjoyed and has been wonderful and looked after me really well these last few days. He's here actually and just said to her "can you hear that noise? Mummy's on mumsnet, you will get used to that noise...that's a mouse clicking..."

Had to call the doctor out for agonising stomach pains and it turns out I've torn some muscles on my internal abdominal wall. Nice. So I haven't been out of bed much in the last couple of days but the painkillers have just kicked in so I feel a bit better tonight. Dp has made sure I haven't had to lift a finger. Marsup, at taking up smoking in the final month of pregnancy to get a small baby.

Ds was NOT happy on Monday and refused to be in the same room as her to start with but he's come round and now says he loves her so I think it'll be OK.

And she is AVA!!!! Yay! Dp changed his mind and likes it after all, hooray.

Sorry I made so many of you cross your legs but it made me laugh, the thought of all the sympathetic wincing up and down the country.

Welcome Ava - glad we helped to convince you www. Just a thought, but is she the first baby to be named by Mumsnet committee?

tigermoth · 04/12/2003 18:30

www,I have this mental image of you leaving your bed just to post on mumsnet ... unless your dp is somehow holding the keyboard over your while you lie down and type. Well, you did say he is a devoted partner and dad.

Ava - love the name. You can spell it backwards. How cool is that!
