My tough northern man has become a blubbering wreck and I feel so helpless.

He was so close to his mother, at times it drove me mad, I want to help but I don't think there is anything I can do to help.

same happened to dp's dad in may. i wrote a similar thread.
i found that be there for him, listen and love is the best thing. be prepared for moments when he 'is not there' and looks lost in memories (this hurts).
DH likes it when I talk about his dad.

so sorry.

How's he doing twinset and how are you?

So sorry, Twinset. Dh's father died very suddenly and all I could do was to hold dh, listen to him and look after him. Agree with Pippi, important to talk about the person you've lost if and when your dh wants to.
