My Beautiful girl

Hi everyone,I haven't been around for a bit but I just want to share this & hopefully prevent other family's suffering as we are.

On the morning of 1st September this year,I found my beautiful 22 year old daughter who was home from uni,on the floor in her bedroom.
She was already beyond help.
It's been horrendous,no answers or support from anywhere for many weeks.
We were only able to finally lay her to rest on Friday
2 weeks ago we found out she died from Sudden Arrythmogenic Death Syndrome.

Every week 12 Children or young Adults die from SADS.
That's 120 more sudden, preventable deaths of young people since my beautiful daughter Ashlee left us.

CRY (cardiac risk in the young ) hold screening clinics for all 14-35 year olds.
The NHS WONT test our children unless one has already died from the condition.

Too little, too late for us,but maybe not other family's.

So sorry for your loss. I know another family this happened to a couple of years ago. Utterly devastating. This family also promotes and raises money for CRY.

Want to acknowledge your post, how dreadful so unexpected.what a loss 22yo
I hope your son is ok and that the tests and consultations go well
I hope you get support at such difficult time, and I know it’s xmas soon too

WatcherOfTheNight · 12/11/2017 14:48

I just want others to be aware of the free testing available & prevent others going through this if possible.

Deblet I'm sorry to hear about your son,it's petrifying isn't it.
I'm scared to sleep & keep checking my son.

Bullet I'm so sorry you lost your brother to this,I can see how hurt my son is although he's trying to be brave so I imagine you've been through a lot x

Fellout your poor friend & her children, have they had support?
A lady from SADS uk contacted me offering us help but I'm not sure what anyone can do for us.

Sorry if I'm missing anyone I'm on my phone but will come back later & check.

Lemony please please do raise awareness, none of us had heard of this until we lost our girl.
All her friends are now booked in for screening.
It can be prevented if people know they've a problem x

Had no idea this service was available.

Have just signed up for notifications of a clinic in my area.

Thank you so much for letting us know.

May the knowledge of preventing another family this trauma bring a small piece of comfort Flowers

I'm so sorry to hear you lost precious Ashlee, OP Flowers

My friend lost her DH to SADS a few months ago. He was in his thirties and left a 16 month old DD, who now has to undergo screening. It is devastating.

Thank-you for letting us know about CRY. I will be signing up for screening for my DD. I hope your DS gets the all clear.

Gemini69 · 12/11/2017 15:01

I am so sorry Flowers they say time heals but it doesn't really, you just go accustomed to living with the pain.

May the children of others be saved such pain from learning about your beautiful daughter.

Mishappening · 12/11/2017 15:17

Flowers - so sad for you - I send all my sympathy.

Family I knew had similar medical problem and they were all tested and several had pacemakers fitted - their "guardian angels." It is so wrong that this surveillance is only available to families where someone has sadly died young.

I do feel for you - your DD was, as you say, at an age when she was beginning to blossom into the adult that she was to be and it is such a wrench. I do hope you have family and friends there to support you through this dreadful time. x
