I've heard about heuristic (sp?) play, does anyone know about it please?

For the life of me I can't even remember where I heard it being discussed, or maybe I was just ear-wigging! It sounded very interesting so first port of call for advice is, of course, mumsnet. TIA

I am slogging away at the emails but am still only on Monday

tomorrow is another day

F&Z - would a few bath plugs be a good payment for the use of TD in our NCT mag? Or are you just being nice about my excitment

(If yes, do you want plugs or chains? I can purchase separately...)

Danae - I have already started a 'button box' for the dcs as I vividly remember loving my grandmas ... but your button book sounds most superior

fwiw, the dcs (who are 3.5 & 6 mths so sound older than yours?) seemed to get most out of the curtain rails/bag of stones combinations. And lots of little wicker baskets to fill/empty. More in F&Z's toddler mode, perhaps not surprisingly

Funnyp, if I can't find any at my Wilko's I will take you up on that, thanks. No I really do want some, and haven't found any.

Remember ELC will give you a choke detector if you ring their customer services number. It's hard to guess otherwise how wide a child's throat is (re: pebbles, that is)

Danae it is really up to you and depends on how big your basket is. 30 is fine for starters. My larger baskets have up to 200 objects in.

And Danae if you want to make a few more button books and sell them to me....? I would be very pleased to have them. Same goes for anyone who makes beautiful / unusual things from heuristic type materials.

shit that would save me a lot of time if I just emailed them and said

"you are fraakes"

FrannyandZooey · 09/08/2007 08:54

Shall I tell all the ones that come to my classes too? I could put a sign on the door when they come in:

"Bog off. You are fraakes."

Have emailed for The Document .

TigerFeet · 09/08/2007 10:00

Haven't read the whole thread, but...

Franny, is it possible to buy wnaky baskets? (Don't suppose you sell them by any chance [hopeful])

I have just had an inspired idea for friend's dd's first birthday present

FrannyandZooey · 09/08/2007 10:21

TigerFeet, when is it for? I have run my supplies down a lot at the moment but I could send you a list of what I have or can get, if it isn't an urgent job. There was a good seller on eBay who used to supply them but she doesn't seem to be around at the moment. I believe you can find them for sale elsewhere but they can be pricey.

Idris I will get to you I promise. Am still on emails from Monday, but getting there

TigerFeet · 09/08/2007 10:26

Erm, next weekend. I am so very good at planning ahead

I suppose I could just get up of my arse and go to wilko's!

funnypeculiar · 09/08/2007 10:41

My stones would absolutely fail any choking test - dd pretty much over the mouthing stage - but you can get very nice pleasing big ones from nice garden centers. Although suspect they would be a drop-on-foot-and-hurt risk...

F&Z -someone told me that the inside of a loo roll works as a choke detector - true or false? My curtain rings just fail the 'loo roll' test - but they had really big ones (although I should point out that when I got them home I discovered mine are actually plastic made to look like wood.

Can't do wilkinsons trip until next week, but will cetainly get some for you F&Z (plugs? chains? both? chains are little necklace rather than made of lots of little balls typoe, iykwim)

Oh and fogot to say thank you for all this yesterday, F&Z - I kind of thought I did this, but it has really reinvented it for me

FrannyandZooey · 09/08/2007 17:21

TigerFeet sorry I can't help you out this time, then. I bet you could make a nice one yourself - you could print off a copy of TD and give it to the parent with the basket, then they could add to it themselves.

FP if the thing is bigger than a loo roll then the child definitely can't choke on it, but things smaller than that are safe as well, as the choke detector is a fair bit smaller than a loo roll. Better to err on the side of caution though obviously. And you are welcome - everybody is so enthusiastic - it is such fun for me to get a chance to witter on about it as well!

FrannyandZooey · 11/08/2007 09:05

Right

I PROMISE I am going to answer all the emails tonight before I go on holiday

BUT if you are reading this and you haven't emailed me yet, and want to, please could you wait until after I get back? (on Tuesday)

thank you

and sorry again for delay

Habbibu · 12/08/2007 21:03

I keep calling this hermeneutic play. I don't know if this is a sign that I've been hanging out with the wrong crowd too long. Or hermetic. Next thing it'll be hermitic play, and I'll be sending her off to a cave with a pine cone.

shelliiiiiiiii · 15/08/2007 01:42

hey i found this really funny little website that sells great bibs and clothing that my freinds and family think are hilarious. they are cheap too and the fabric is great.

www.cafepress.com/annoying_babies

try it!

welliemum · 15/08/2007 02:19
Hmm
welliemum · 15/08/2007 02:19

Own up, who are you really?

FrannyandZooey · 15/08/2007 21:53

Right I have just answered what I believe is my last outstanding email on this

if you haven't heard anything please email again (and if i was crap and forgot to attach the blinking document email and tell me that as well)

Saythatagain I hope you did not mind how brutally your thread got hijacked by me for purposes of spreading heuristic love . Thank you for the chance to get up on my soapbox yet again.
