My ds is 14 months and had been taking 4-5 steps at a time for about 2 weeks before dropping down to crawl.
Now this morning he's statred to walk everywhere!

Just curious to see what age others started.

Dd1 was walking round the furniture at 8 months walked across the room by herself at 13 months.

Dd2 was walking round the furniture at 8 months and walked by herself at 11 months, she hasn't sat down since!

Ds2 9 months
Ds3 12-13 months

ds 16 months. There's a theory that smaller, lighter kids walk early and sturdy kids walk later. Certainly true for ds who has always been strong and muscular. All the little girls and smaller boys we knew walked earlier.

edam · 01/05/2006 00:02

Mind you, he spent a good few months walking on his knees first. Very odd.

serenity · 01/05/2006 00:38

That doesn't work with mine, edam. They all walked around 10mths, but were big (90 centile+)

However they all talked late instead. I always wondered if it was because they didn't have the urgency to communicate, as they could just go and get what they wanted instead.

LeahE · 01/05/2006 00:47

DS is big and sturdy and walked at 9.5 months. Shows no sign (at going on 16 months) of wanting to talk, though. I guess they all have their own set of priorities...

CaptainDippy · 01/05/2006 08:30

DD1 was 22 months!!! Blush Grin DD2 is 11 months and cruising the furniture - don't think she'll be too long - They are such different children. Bless! Well Done to your DS burstingbug!! Smile

Babyblue2 · 01/05/2006 08:31

DD1 - 11 months
DD2 - 9 months

7up · 01/05/2006 08:32

ds1 1omonths
ds2 14months

Anoah · 01/05/2006 08:35

DS1 walked at 10 months by himself. He has autistic tendencies and was severly speech delayed.

ds2 is not walking yet at 16 months but he is bright as a button and is talking in phrases.

They are all different.

juicychops · 01/05/2006 08:55

9 months

motherinferior · 01/05/2006 10:39

DD1 busts that theory, Edam: she's small and delicate and generally deceptively fairy-like, but also a lazy little bugger who sat on her pretty little bum for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaages.

WWWontSlagOffAnyone · 01/05/2006 10:40

Ds: 9 months
DD: 18 months

Riddo · 01/05/2006 11:33

Mine were both bum shufflers and didn't even cruise round furniture until 2 years 1 month. Both walking (very flat footedly) by 2 years 2 months though.

zoeuk1 · 01/05/2006 11:56

ds1 12 months
ds2 9 months
however all children are different!!

edam · 01/05/2006 12:00

Damn. Everyone I've come across till now backs up my theory about big = late walker and vice versa. Although strictly speaking not my theory but a mate's.

Isn't it weird though, how suddenly one day they wake up and start walking? Like it's only just occurred to them?

cataloguequeen · 01/05/2006 12:04

dd1 10 months

dd2 8 months

Smile
cataloguequeen · 01/05/2006 12:06

moonshine · 01/05/2006 12:31

ds(big baby!) - 10 months

WelshBoris · 01/05/2006 12:32

DD 9 months

sweetkitty · 01/05/2006 12:33

DD1 12 years 2 weeks exactly and that was from one end of the room to the other without falling. She was slow at rolling, sitting up, crawling etc but then just decided to get up and walk.

DD2 well she's only 13 weeks but I reckon another month should do it Grin
