Sirius ~ cruel or cool?

I think I'm having some kind of reaction to old gentleman names ~ and my short list is getting more and more eclectic/potentially just plain odd.
One of the names I'm mulling around is Sirius. But is it completely cruel to use it ~ can it stand up on its own or are people only ever going to think of Harry Potter/Gary Oldman etc?

Remus is a good Potter name, and has Roman mythology ties.

WHen pregnant with my third I was obsessed with having five letters and three syllables to the name. As my girls were already like that. Mad I know. Shortlisted Ariel, Uriel and Elian. Took a long time to register birth as husband opposed but he is now Thomas Elian and it was only about six month later I realised the Elian/Alien similarity. I think pregnancy screws with your head but Sirius sounds cool to me-I did do a quick letter count...

No child of mine will be called Sirius...because it's the name of the outsourced IT support provider at my work. So I use it in sentences like "Gah, the screen's frozen again, this computer is driving me mad, better call Sirius".

Ask your dp to change his name to Sirius. If he will, then you've got a person calle Sirius in your life. If he won't - then maybe think about why.
