Literary baby names?

I was just wondering (because I'm bored and there's nowt on telly) if anyone here had given their LOs literary-inspired names? My LO-on-the-way is going to have the name of my favourite book-character as a middle name if it's a boy... I was watching Jonathon Ross last night and found out Russell Crowe's DS2 is called Tennyson... can anyone beat that?

hi froggy

I also know of a Blythe and a Bronte

nighbynight · 02/05/2010 08:28

do you mean named after famous authors, or famous characters?

If the latter, Dickens is a particularly rich source of names.
eg
Chuzzlewit
Twist
Nickleby

@ nighbynight.

DD1-to-be will have the name of A Midsummer Night's Dream character, but not for that reason.

tummytickler · 02/05/2010 09:55

dd has the name of a favourite author if that counts!

kailie · 02/05/2010 10:29

I know a Yossarian (name from the book Catch 22)

ElusiveMoose · 02/05/2010 10:55

I really really wanted to call DS Atticus, but was not allowed . Am now considering Linton for DS2 (as in Wuthering Heights). Am also considering Linus from Peanuts, though not sure if that counts as literature .

bobbiewickham · 02/05/2010 10:58

I wanted to call one of my dses Jude but it was vetoed.

And I should have given DS2 William as one of his middle names as he was born on the Bard's birthday, but...I didn't.

Still kinda regret that.

belgo · 02/05/2010 10:58

I wanted Bathsheba but dh vetoed.

LittleWhiteWolf · 02/05/2010 11:05

I named my daughter after a character in a series of books I loved when I was younger. I was 15 and read the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants books and I still read them so regularly they're falling apart!
I loved all the 4 main characters and their names but decided Tibby (Tabitha) was too twee, Lena and Carmen too exotic so plumped for Bridget.
I know thats also a name for a certain neurotic 30-something who wrote a diary, but thats NOT who she was named for!

I love having a baby named after a character I loved. Not because I want her to emulate the character, just because its a name I loved for many years.

I really wanted Hero (off of Shakespeare) but DH vetoed immidiately.

belgo · 02/05/2010 11:06

That reminds me, Wolf is a name that features in many stories

LittleWhiteWolf · 02/05/2010 11:15

Ha!

Just tested the waters with DH with regards to naming any future son we have as Atticus...he's still laughing. Philestine.

Bluesunday · 02/05/2010 11:26

I love Atticus and Bronte! DP would never let me, though. If this LO is a boy I am having Holden for a middle name - I've had it saved up since 1994 and I LOVE it so criticise it at your peril - from The Catcher in the Rye. I wanted it for a first name but naturally DP said no... I know a mum who has a DD called Esme after To Esme, With Love and Squalor, also by JD Salinger.
