I've got a Euan and a Callum. This one will probs be another boy and I'm stuck. Hubby wants scottish but not too scottish so my favourite Lachlan is out. Here is what's been considered:

  • Ruiriadh - not possible as we may move to England soon and he'll get the 'rory' pronunciations which I don't like
  • Fraser - is this too posh?
  • Innes - do you think penis??
  • Ross
  • Brodie
  • Gilles - too out there??
  • Finlay - overused?

Help - any suggestions welcomed

Love Innes, but DH vetoed. What about Gregor?

Eglu · 09/02/2010 21:43

Love Innes and Fraser.

I also love Hamish and Cameron

wineslurper · 09/02/2010 21:46

Have you thought about Fergus, or Alasdair? By the way I like Lachlan too!

Beasknees · 09/02/2010 21:46

douglas or hamish rock my boat

Beasknees · 09/02/2010 21:48

apologies if i spell them wrong but
strewin or tadg are great names too

wineslurper · 09/02/2010 21:48

Oooo! Just remembered I met a wee lad called Magnus recently, which is fab! And another vote for Fraser, and Hamish is lovely as long as no one calls him "Hammy"!

jojochanel · 09/02/2010 21:49

Hamish - I see white westies in my mind.
Gregor - I do quite like but friend has one -may not stop me though
Alisdair - also quite like and hubby likes 'Ali' for a boy too. Is it too posh
Fergus has been vetoed by hubby
Cameron - too much like Callum. I liked Campbell but again too much like Callum and hubby said too 'Scottish'

I like Lachlan....(sniff, sniff)

Also Tearlach but he had a fit about that one...

  • Love Magnus too but he say's again too scots.
  • Stuan not possible with a Euan already
  • Love Dougie too but he knows an odd one at his work. Dougal out apparently as too 'magic roundabout'
  • Tadg??? I fear it will get vetoed on being unpronounable - how do you phonetically spell it?

His suggestion.....'Bob'!!!!!

Beas...haven't heard Tadg before, though apparently it is the Scottish version of a name which means poet in Irish.
BUT - in Scotland one should be aware that a tadger is a penis.

LetThereBeRock · 09/02/2010 21:59

Magnus is too Scottish? It's Scandinavian.

jkklpu · 09/02/2010 21:59

Euan and Calum my favourites, too
Tammas
Angus
James
Andrew

BikeRunSki · 09/02/2010 22:00

Love Fraser and Innes. Not too posh at all! I work with one of each, neither are posh. In fact Fraser isn't even Scottish!

squeaver · 09/02/2010 22:01

Gavin?

Robbie, instead of Bob?

GrizzlyMum · 09/02/2010 22:03

A friend from Glasgow is Alastair, usually shortened to Al, which I really like.
Another friend is Ian because his dad got drunk with a Scotsman the night before he was born.
Donnie is nice, but I don't particularly like Donald.
I like Ross best from your list. And I do like Lachlan.

TheCrackFox · 09/02/2010 22:05

Angus?

yama · 09/02/2010 22:06

Duncan is a great name.

Bruce?

Stuart?

jojochanel · 09/02/2010 22:06

He actually does like Robert and I like Robbie but he says that's a 'no go' cos of Robbie williams

Worked for a nasty Angus so bad memories

Magnus - I know - he's not too well informed.

I'm losing it with him cos he was like this with the first two as well. He told me at the weekend me he has a list in his head and he'll let me know when it comes out based on what it looks like - so that's helpful!!!

PS He told me that last one looked like an 'alien' when it came out

Donald
Fergus
Finlay (if you are not bothered by popularity)
Andrew
Fraser is quite nice
Innes doesn't make me think of Penis, but if it has that effect on you maybe not the best.
If you go for Iain please don't anglicise to Ian!
James
Hugh (Shuggie!!)
Alexander

Great thread btw. Interesting to see what people regard as a scottish name.
