Hi,

I'm expecting triplets in the Spring - all boys. Two are identical and one is not.
We have a DD already (Phoebe)and I have always struggled with boys names. These are the ones I like so far (not in order of preference):

Dominic
Milo
Charlie
Isaac
Toby
William
Daniel
Harry
Henry
Edward
Nathania l
Fergus
Reuben
Oscar
Max

Probably my favourites are Fergus, Charlie and Reuben but I'm not sure.
What do you think of when you hear these names and which ones would you put together for triplets?
Thanks for your opinions!

As it's 12th night, how about Caspar Melchior and Balthazar?

NotAnOtter · 06/01/2010 20:37

Dominic
Nathaniel are definite s for me and then either Reuben or Oscar

you lucky thing - i have five boys all easy calm and dreamy!

GingerbreadFolk · 06/01/2010 20:37

No I'm not from Cumbria! Just fab names for triplet boys...

I would have Seth, Arlo and Inigo.

SoupDragon · 06/01/2010 20:41

From your list, Fergus, Isaac and Reuben.

NotAnOtter · 06/01/2010 20:41

not keen on fergus or charlie sorry

ProfessorPoopyPants · 06/01/2010 20:44

Actually I like all your names, I [heart] your taste. Is it not spelled Nathaniel, not Nathanial, though?
My friend has ds called Reuben and says on the Bill etc, it is always a drug dealer's name, which bugs her somewhat...I like it though and can't say I've noticed.
Of all your choices, Henry, Edward, Dominic and Toby are all a bit too trad/posh for me, all the rest are grrrreeat. When are you due and how are you going to cope??!!

StarExpat · 06/01/2010 20:46

lol ppp I was thinking the same thing - re your last question!!

ladyandthechocolate · 06/01/2010 20:46

Someone mentioned about not choosing formal names with shortenings and I do see your point (hadn't thought about it before).
I do like Fergus, Reuben and Isaac as a combo. Also I like Seth too.

I would go for all three names having the same number of syllables - so probably all two-syllable names. That way you can say them in any order pretty naturally. If one same's longer or shorter that will probably be the one you say last.

If you agree / that makes sense, it rules out some of your list like Dominic.

Also, I wouldn't go for three names all ending in an 'eee' sound as this will make them sound like cartoon characters. So I'd say only one should have an 'ee ending as otherwise you've got an odd one out again.

Plus, Harry is a shortening of Henry so I don't think you should use both for different boys.

With all that in mind, then, how about...

Henry/Harry, William and Daniel (though you risk reminding people of Charles and Diana's boys with this combo)

Harry, Edward and Fergus?

Fergus, William and Reuben?

Off your list, I think in your shoes I would go for Henry, Jacob and Michael.

ladyandthechocolate · 06/01/2010 20:52

Yes - you're right it is Nathaniel - hadn't noticed my error!
How am I going to cope? Good question. I'll have 4 under 2! I'm trying not to think about the coping bit at the mo. We have the Norland nanny training college nearby so they will send out 2 trainees on placement to help. Otherwise we have family close to us and fabulous friends.
I'm technically due 2nd June but the babes could arrive around 32-35 weeks which would be March/April time.

How perfect to be near the nanny school! Will they be able to stay with you for several months, then? How old is your DD? This is quite exciting!

geordieminx · 06/01/2010 21:00

I have a Charlie so am biased. He suits his name sooo much, and although its a "popular" name, I've not come across another at playgroup etc (he's 2.5)

From your list I like

Milo
Charlie
Isaac
William
Harry
Nathanial
Reuben
Oscar
Max

Also like Archie and Liam

randomimposter · 06/01/2010 21:06

Combos for me that work
Billy or Will, Ned and Charlie
OR
Isaac, Rueben and Oscar
OR
Dominic, Milo and Nathan
OR
Harry, Charlie and Ted

Congrats and Good Luck; am !!!

ladyandthechocolate · 06/01/2010 21:09

I like Archie too but there's already one in the family.
The nannies will come on placement for about 6 weeks at a time but are not residential (shame). It will be nice for DD as well as I feel she's going to miss out on all the little outings we used to have. She is 16 months old.
The triplets are wriggling and squirming as I type. I already look full term but I'm only 19 weeks!

P.S It's nice to see some ! I haven't met anyone who is yet. I've had a bit too much pity and sympathy for my liking. Granted it was a shock (to put it mildly) but I'm not unhappy about it in any way. It's certainly changed our plans for the future.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 06/01/2010 21:18

From your list, I would perm three out of

Dominic, Charles (have a hang-up about using abbreviations as first names), Tobias (ditto) and Nathaniel. The other names are fine but some - Oscar and Max in particular - are so popular around here that they've grown a bit dull.

What about Sebastian or Benedict - they fit with your other names?

randomimposter · 06/01/2010 21:18

no I think it's BRILLIANT (have always wanted twins... couldn't begin to imagine how amazing 3 would be!!!) - do you mind me asking... was it assisted?

SplitPea · 06/01/2010 21:20

Congratulations!

My faves from your list are

Charlie
William
Daniel (Dan is so cool for a teen!)
Henry
Edward
Oscar

I like Harry but wouldn't use it for a triplet boy for the reasons above.

Not keen on Fergus, Reuben and Dominic.

Have fun choosing

jellybeans · 06/01/2010 21:29

I like...

Harry
Max
Isaac

ilovepeppapig · 06/01/2010 21:32

from yourlist

harry, max and charlie or harry, toby and charlie

ladyandthechocolate · 06/01/2010 21:36

Jollster - the triplets are naturally conceived. There's no history in either of our families. We only found out at the 12 week scan. I was pretty retchy and sick and v. tired in the first tri but didn't have a bump until about 13 weeks so I had absolutely no idea I was carrying multiples!

OP posts:
thatsnotmymonster · 06/01/2010 21:42

I like most of your names, lots of them were on our shortlist and my ds is called Toby!

So my choice would be

TOBY
ISAAC (ZAC)
MILO

or

TOBY
FERGUS
MAX

However, I prefer Finlay to Fergus so I would also like

TOBY
FINN
ZAC
