girls names not ending in ee or ah

GibberingGinger · 11/12/2009 15:49

My DH has a thing about all girls names ending in the sounds ee or ah (Millie, Lucy, Amy, Sarah, Emma etc) and for some reason wants to avoid it.

It's really difficult to come up with names that we like, but fit his silly rule. They all sound really 1970's (Lynn, Susan) or really 1950's (Beryl, Agnes)

The only ones I like are Ruth and Claire however neither of these work with our surname Roth. (Ruth Roth??? Claire Roth/Clear Off???)

Help please......

Ooh, I like Alice.

A lot of them still sound 1970's to me (martine, caroline, alison) but maybe thats cause I know people my age with these names. However thats not a bad thing!

Keep them coming...

PS I have 6 months to finalise this so its not as if its urgent!

Thanks for all those suggestions. I'm reassured that if it is a girl I'll be able to find something that suits and fits in with DH's crazy whims!

If you like Eve would you use Evelyn or Evangeline and nn Eve?

PlonkerTeatowelOnTheirHeads · 12/12/2009 00:37

I don't like Catherine with 'Roth'. It somehow sounds as though you have lisp to me.

SmacOnTheLipsUnderTheMistletoe · 12/12/2009 08:13

Ruth R
oth is hilarious! I think short surnames need longer first names to balance them out, even if they do end up being shortened.
Elizabeth Roth
Charlotte Roth
Eleanor Roth
Margaret Roth
Jennifer Roth
Juliette Roth
Annabel Roth
Isabelle Roth

for some reason Katy Roth sounds better than Katherine Roth which goes against my theory but then again Katy ends in the ee sound that your DH wants to avoid.. . . many nicknames do end in ee sound though!

Ineedsomesleep · 12/12/2009 08:48

There are names that you could shortened. Maybe this would get around DB's rules.

Another vote for Emmeline (Emmie). Our DD is Emmeline so I might be biased .

Evelyn (Evie)

Or you could chose:

Beatrix
Clarabel
Tess
Saffron
Seren
Rose Maybe not, Rose Roth?

Another vote for Agnes.

Bigbadmummy · 12/12/2009 08:54

I have a Caitlin

Caitlin Roth sounds quite good
