girls names not ending in ee or ah

My DH has a thing about all girls names ending in the sounds ee or ah (Millie, Lucy, Amy, Sarah, Emma etc) and for some reason wants to avoid it.

It's really difficult to come up with names that we like, but fit his silly rule. They all sound really 1970's (Lynn, Susan) or really 1950's (Beryl, Agnes)

The only ones I like are Ruth and Claire however neither of these work with our surname Roth. (Ruth Roth??? Claire Roth/Clear Off???)

Help please......

not sure if verity and cecily count though. do you mean the eeee sound is not allowed, or do you mean nothing ending in ie or ee

I like the sound of Annabel Roth. Sounds lovely.

Or how about....

Penelope Roth
Margo Roth
Cleo Roth

(Agnes is lovely BTW)

MaggieNollaig · 12/12/2009 18:29

Yes, it's lovely Annabel Roth sounds like a person already. Is there somebody called Annabel Roth. It sounds so familiar.

You can have my favourite girl's name, because DH vetoed it: Clementine

Love Agnes too.

AngryPixie · 12/12/2009 19:09

Marianne Roth is gorgeous.

Love Eliza but it has the wrong end sound for your DH

JeMenFous · 12/12/2009 19:22

Josephine Roth?

Esmee · 12/12/2009 19:46

Imogen goes well with your surname!

Clementine
Beatrice
Florence
Juliet

KristinaM · 12/12/2009 19:52

you need a polysyllabic name to go with Roth. IMO the 3 syllable names sound better

eg Gabrielle, Imogen

though imogen repeats the oh sound in roth

GibberingGinger · 12/12/2009 20:26

I really like Annabel actually. A real contender.

To add to the complexity though we already have a daughter ending in ...el. And we are expecting twins. Not that we know the sex yet so it might be two boys, or one of each. Or we might have to come up with 2 girls names not ending in ee or ah sounds. Though to be fair he is less stingent on the ah sound crazy man.

The funniest thing is he had a terrible name to go with the surname Roth. I don't know what his mother was thinking! And the ee sound that he so objects to actually works with Roth as it's a definite hard end to the first name before you go into the soft lisp that is my married name! rant over

Our girlies are called Hazel and Madeleine.

Name hunting is so hard; I'm still not sure about Madeleine 18 months later - good luck.

Tamsin?

Do NOT call your daughter Honor, lovely name though it is. Not with Roth, anyway.
