dh & I love the name Shay but it's not getting a very good reception among most people we've mentioned it to. In fact a few have thought I was winding them up & laughed themselves silly until realizing I was serious. Please tell me what you think.

Cadelaide, that's very funny! You're thinking about it the right amount!

MaggieBeau · 19/06/2009 16:03

I think I could pull off Diarmuid myself... (oh that sounds rude)

Cadelaide · 19/06/2009 16:06
Grin
Claire236 · 19/06/2009 20:03

I don't mind people saying they don't like the name but could we give it a rest with the insulting comments please.

So Shay Healy and Shay Given are Oirish? I thought they were Irish!

Claire236 · 19/06/2009 20:26

Who's Shay Healy? At the risk of sounding completely ignorant.

If you don't want to hear insulting comments about a name you really shouldn't ask opinions on here, name threads pretty much always get like this (it's why I enjoy them, I think).

You said "please tell me what you think" and I told you what I think.

Be brave and go ahead and use it, if you love it. I wish I'd been braver with DC3, he's 2.11 and I'm still not keen on our "safe" choice. Who cares what a bunch of anonymous bods on a chat forum think?

stleger · 19/06/2009 20:43

Shay Healy wrote What's Another Year?, one of the Irish Eurovision winners. Shay Given is the current Irish goalie.

MaggieBeau · 19/06/2009 20:53

Stleger, you big nerd!!!!

MaggieBeau · 19/06/2009 20:54

I mean, for knowing who wrote "what's another year?"...

For bonus nerd points, what is Johnnie Logan's real name??

stleger · 19/06/2009 21:00

No idea of lovely Johnny's name, nor why I know who Shay healy is. But 'What's Anothe Year?' is in my head now! (I am in the call baby whayt you like, and don't tell anyone until registered camp. As i have a MIL who announces that you can't call a baby anything you suggest!)

MaggieBeau · 19/06/2009 21:05

It is....... Seán Shepherd!!!!!

stleger · 19/06/2009 21:08

I hope he sorts out next years song!

MaggieBeau · 19/06/2009 21:10

NO WAY! if we win the eurovision, you think we'll get to see grey's anatomy or desperate housewives before the UK! no, it'll be only fookin' fools and horses reruns if we have to host another eurovision!

pray we lose it forever!

stleger · 19/06/2009 21:16

That is possible indeed. What i'd love is a complete rerun of Glenroe, that would be half an hour a day at zero cost. There must be loads of old free stuff they could use to fill in. It is cool seeing DH first!

MaggieBeau · 19/06/2009 22:58

Well HOLE eee God Stleger That is a good idea. suggest it to RTe! It would be free, and kind of retro now. 80s clothes and everything. LIke dynasty in county wiclow but with dunnes clothes and horrible kitchens..

Cadelaide · 19/06/2009 23:36

What a fabulous turn this thread has taken.

See? I always new name threads could be fun.

juneybean · 19/06/2009 23:38

My colleague has as Shay as in Shay Given which appears to be derived from Seamus

dorisbumble · 26/02/2010 23:32

Shay is lovely. I have one! It is a shortened version of Seamus - Irish for James. My Shay is very cool.

usualsuspect · 26/02/2010 23:35

I like it
