NorbertDentressangle · 09/05/2009 21:23

Male or female as I've met an adult female and 4 year old boy with that name?

cthea · 09/05/2009 21:26

Not too keen on it, I think it looks OK written down but doesn't sound too nice.

Mamazon · 09/05/2009 21:26

nope. i love it also

differentID · 09/05/2009 21:33

I lik eit, but it does take a strong personality to pull it off.

glucose · 09/05/2009 21:35

too wizardy, he would want to keep birds of prey or do spells.

NorbertDentressangle · 09/05/2009 21:45

The 2 that I've met have both been quite hippyish so thats the image it conjures up in my mind

BelleWatling · 09/05/2009 21:46

It sounds like merkin

nevergoogledragonbutter · 09/05/2009 21:48

i met a woman called merlin recently.
she was exotic and i like it.

Jacksmama · 09/05/2009 21:49

Slap yourself for even thinking it.

Overmydeadbody · 09/05/2009 21:50

Merlin?! That is ridiculous.

It conjours up images of fish to me, and Finding bloody Neemo

That and magicians.

It would be cluel to do it. Your son would never forgive you.

He's be nicknamed Merlin the Mermaid at school. He would I tell you.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 09/05/2009 21:51

Really, Jacksmama!!

I quite like it if you can be sure that his future lies in the creative arts and not (say) chartered accountancy or road maintenance.

thatsnotmymonster · 09/05/2009 21:53

There was a Merlin (male) in my sister's year at school.

Louby3000 · 09/05/2009 21:56

Love it, but it takes a certain strength of character to pull it off.

MrsDoylesMole · 09/05/2009 21:57

I love it

thisisyesterday · 09/05/2009 21:58

omdb, that's Marlin though

BananaFruitBat · 09/05/2009 21:58

Merlin ?????

As in the ancient warlock in the Arthurian legends?

Give the poor little lad Gandalf as his middle name while you're at it.

CarGirl · 09/05/2009 21:59

My beloved cat was called Merlin, sadly he got splatted last year.

Pingpong · 09/05/2009 21:59

agree with blinks

cheekster · 09/05/2009 22:00

Its a love it or hate it I guess!

Still loving it though

I know someone who had a Myrddin (pron. Merthin) after the Mary Stewart Merlin books. Always thought it was a nice name but would require endless explanation outside of Wales.

tummytickler · 09/05/2009 22:12

I love it!
Dh thinks it is crap unfortunately, or i may have been tempted.

Slickbird · 09/05/2009 22:26

I actually dated a 'Merlin' for about a week. He had lovely eyes but REALLY smelly feet. He had to go.
