I suppose if you must you could go for Amerie, which was the name of that horrendous squawking hiccuping bint who sang Just ONe Thing a few years ago...

okay. Guys. Please.

The OP did not ask you for your opinions on the name. She asked a) which spelling and b) any suggestions for a middle name.

I think if someone comes on here, undecided, and asks for opinions, then fine, give them

If someone comes on and says "we have decided..." then please have a bit of sensitivity and refrain from using words like 'chavvy' and 'awful'

How did the school friend spell it? I would go for a a plain-ish middle name. Rose? I love the name Rose.

Could it be Amira?

I was just going to open this up and type:

Or you could give her a nice name.

But I see it has already been said.

Go with Amelie.....that sounds similar and is a real name that sounds very pretty....

Amarae is the spelling I would choose from the three. Assuming it is pronounced Amma-ray?

The more I read it, the more I like it.

Some people will always judge on names - I have a pretentiously named dd, and a chavvy named ds. C'est la vie.

Amarae is very pretty actually, but everyone will say "Anna-Rae?" and she'll have to say, No, A-m-a...

I know of an Amira, which looks nice spelled out, if that's any help

If you are pronouncing them correctly they all sound very different.
How do you want it to sound?
They are not 3 spellings of the same name.

nooka · 04/04/2009 08:54

Makes me think of Latin declensions - Amo, Amas, Ami or some such (never was any good at it!)

This is no help at all but I do recognise the name the op is thinking of. Have no idea how to spell it though so I'm off to google. Back if I find anything. I like it btw.

Jeez people are rude!!

All this snobbery about made-up names is ridiculous. Where do you think a lot of names came from originally? Do you think they fell out of the sky?

If you don't like the name that's fine but for goodness sake you don't need to berate the poor woman.

I don't know why people have to be so bitchy when it's obviously uncalled for.

OP, if you tell us how you are pronouncing it, we can suggest a good spelling. Is it like Amy-Rae or Ah-muh-ray or eh-mur-ray? There is definitely a name Emery, but I've also googled those three spellings and found people with Amarae and Ami Rae.
