Agree with LetThemEatCake. I would spell it how you pronounce it to save any confusion. As for middle name I would go with something traditional like Amarae Grace

I actually know someone called Amadeus.

Quite like Amarae

There you go Cotey Cote Cote.

LetThem - Can't you spell "bitch"?

Here:
BITCH

Plural:
BITCHES

Your insult isn't any more palatable when misspelled. I thought you'd like to know.

Does it matter what it means in Latin though? For example Suri means red rose in Persian, but mouse in French (ok with a different spelling) so it's bound to mean something else in some other language you don't know...
I agree - if you like it go for it and who cares what anyone else thinks.

Please don't go for Amarae/Amara - it means "bitter' in Latin!

well done mommyinthemiddle. nothing wrong with being a trendsetter rather than a trend follower....my DD name always gets a slating on here for being 'chavvy'....but i adore it and so does she and that is really all that counts....

If Amelie is off the table i would go with amarae...

mommyinthemiddle: I am sorry people have been so rude on this thread. Ignorant beeyatches, is all I can say.

As someone who has copped similar sniggers from people about my dc names, I say - Fuck 'em.

As for your comment: "No its not made up, and even if it was so what? My baby, my choice of name" - BRAVO.

For the record, I think Amarae is the nicest spellling. And a good middle name would be along the lines of something 1-syllable and quite classic. Think someone mentioned Rose, which works well. Also Grace, Skye, Claire,
umm, for some reason June is popping into my head, even though it is a not a name I particularly like.

I actually really like this name, and before reading this thread I HAD heard it before!

mommyinthemiddle - good for you for sticking up for yourself, there are far too many people on this forum who give their opinion whether it is asked for or not.

I think the best spelling would be Amarae. In my opinion I would go for a for a shorter middle name, without knowing your surname its hard to tell what would suit.

I think I might put this name on my list. At least you know its not going to become common or chavvy name, like so many women choose to go with.

Everyone is entitled to there opinion, which i respect but I wasn't asking what people thought of it to begin with rather which spelling.
Yes it would be pronounced amma-ray, so i think the majority of you have said amarae would be the correct spelling. Thank you for the input and answering my original request
No its not made up, and even if it was so what? My baby, my choice of name.

No, you're right. A quick google search confirms that she hasn't made it up.

KinderEggKayzr · 04/04/2009 11:53

I went to school with 2 Amarae's and I am nearly 23 so she hasn't made it up.

Report
paolosgirl · 04/04/2009 11:32

If they are Arabic, then people might assume out of ignorance that it was of that origin. Otherwise, it sounds made up.

Report
KayHarkerIsPlayingWithMitchell · 04/04/2009 11:30

I don't think it does sound made up, though. It sounds like something arabic perhaps.

Report
paolosgirl · 04/04/2009 11:28

Sounds too much like Gamma Ray - is your dh a physicist?

ENOUGH of the made up names, PLEASE. You are Trying Too Hard.

And I don't care if it's bitchy - it's what everyone will be thinking.

KayHarkerIsPlayingWithMitchell · 04/04/2009 11:24

Amarae is the nicest spelling, imo - If it's pronounced Amma-ray, which sounds the most intuitive.

I like it, my third daughter has a similar sounding name (although mine is an already coined name).

Report
CreativeZen · 04/04/2009 11:17

Backwards it spells Earama

Report
Laugs · 04/04/2009 11:04

I don't know why people have to be so bitchy when it's obviously uncalled for.

OP, if you tell us how you are pronouncing it, we can suggest a good spelling. Is it like Amy-Rae or Ah-muh-ray or eh-mur-ray? There is definitely a name Emery, but I've also googled those three spellings and found people with Amarae and Ami Rae.

Jeez people are rude!!

All this snobbery about made-up names is ridiculous. Where do you think a lot of names came from originally? Do you think they fell out of the sky?

If you don't like the name that's fine but for goodness sake you don't need to berate the poor woman.

This is no help at all but I do recognise the name the op is thinking of. Have no idea how to spell it though so I'm off to google. Back if I find anything. I like it btw.

nooka · 04/04/2009 08:54

Makes me think of Latin declensions - Amo, Amas, Ami or some such (never was any good at it!)

Report
SamJamsmum · 04/04/2009 08:42

If you are pronouncing them correctly they all sound very different.
How do you want it to sound?
They are not 3 spellings of the same name.
