I like it

moondog · 07/03/2009 20:31

No

hercules1 · 07/03/2009 20:32

No to hector, I like William though.

GossipMonger · 07/03/2009 20:33

No

Not nice at all.

'This is your Captain Hector Maynard speaking.' I would think he was a wally and unable to fly the plane!

'This is Hector Wright. News at 10. In the Gulf.' No. Not cool at all.

sorry - you did ask.

PeppermintPatty · 07/03/2009 20:33

Yes I like. There is a little baby called Hector on our street. I thought it was very unusual at first but it seems to be coming back

VerynicenonacidicTits · 07/03/2009 20:34

i like Hector

Good strong name

And i adore william, always have

nickytwotimes · 07/03/2009 20:34

I think it is sweet.

janeite · 07/03/2009 20:34

I like it. Although Hector is a gangster in a song by Morrissey and there used to be a programme called 'Hector's House' - I still like it though!

MaryBS · 07/03/2009 20:34

Anyone old enough to remember the children's programme Hector's House, with "silly old Hector"?

No, I'm not either...

frazzledoldbag · 07/03/2009 20:34

I like Hector. It's great for a small child or an adult and is a lovely, substantial, traditional sounding name.
Go for it.
(can't believe people are saying no to it actually....William is lovely too).

Leannabanana · 07/03/2009 20:47

thanks everyone.....not quite the slating i had anticipated which is nice. DH and myself agree on so few names it would seem but this is one of them....that and Emmett...bu i think Hector remains my fav so far...xx

william is excellent in every way

DrowningInClutter · 07/03/2009 20:52

Would you actually call him Hector? I'd always think about what it's likely to get shortened to, even if you wouldn't use a short version it's likely to happen at school. I really love the name Tor so I'd do it but maybe think again if that doesn't appeal to you.

Saltire · 07/03/2009 20:53

Hector was killed by Achilles in greek mythology. Apparently.

Leannabanana · 07/03/2009 20:54

well i think he would probably get called Hec wouldn't he? which i really like....but Tor is ok too. Our cat is called Thor which is similar and we love that...x

The bit in The Iliad where Hector says goodbye to his wife and small son before the battle is a masterpiece. Very moving.
Hector is a positive character in The Iliad, if I remember well.

janeite · 07/03/2009 21:01

Tor is not good imho. But don't let that stop you, as Hector is so sweet in itself.

frazzledoldbag · 07/03/2009 21:04

Tor is nice
[folds arms determinedly]

DrowningInClutter · 07/03/2009 21:05

I just couldn't picture yelling 'Hec' across a children's playground - that's what made me think Tor.
