CAN'T think of a girls name. Have a Beatrice already. Wish I was having a boy, I have just three boys names and I love them all. Have no girls names that are absolute must haves. Our surname is a single syllable, rhymes with Toad (!).
(Have bad cold, want to decide in next week or two, due March, DD1 didn't have a name for ages and want to avoid that, so really really need help).
Can anyone look at the following list and suggest similar alternatives, or give opinions on any of the names?

Was thinking of:
Ottilie (but suddenly seems to be becoming alarmingly popular!)
Variations on Rose - Rose itself, or Rosamund, Rosalie, Rosanna, Rosie
Daisy
Vivi
Poppy
Milly
Camilla (too royal now? always liked it because of Camellias)
Florence
Lottie
Cleo
Clemmie
Maggie
Ella (but there are thousands...)
Bella
Christabel (Bella)
Dora (but now too associated with 'the Explorer'?)
Lola
Tallulah (Tallie) ?!
Honor
Xanthe (too Greek?)

Lottie is my fave. Hard though isn't it? My DD was baby sweetcat for nearly a week

Flowermum · 27/02/2009 18:47

Imogen?

Wolfblass · 27/02/2009 19:00

Xanthe or Xanthia are my fave names for a girl although dp would never allow them!

Love Lottie out of your list too. Ooh and Camilla and Cleo

What about Violet, Fleur, Amara , Tabitha

How about Isobel or Annabel and use Bella as nn

suwoo · 27/02/2009 19:04

I'm of no help because its a lovely list. My favourites would be Cleo, Florence and Xanthe.

Wheelybug · 27/02/2009 19:04

I love Vivi - have never seen anyone else mention it. I too am due in March and had considered it but didn't like Vivienne and didn't just want Vivi as a full name. But if this doesn't worry (and no reason why it should) I love it.

Also like Ottilie, Florence (will be middle name if a girl !), Lola, Bella, Cleo... ooh lots of them.

snuffyp · 27/02/2009 19:11

Some of them are abit old like Maggie! but i like Lola and lottie,Bella,Daisy.I f i had another girl i like Anya or Freya

seeker · 27/02/2009 19:12

Love Christabel, Florence, Rosamund.

Lottie as a short for Charlotte, and Milly as a short for ..something - Millicent?

How about Clemency (an eccentric personal favourite) Constance (ditto) Edith or Matilda?

Cordelia?

hedgiemum · 27/02/2009 19:17

Have you considered Alexandra - Lexi? I know 2 beautiful little sisters at DD1's school named Beatrice and Alexandra, so those two names now "match" in my mind!

I'm due in June and also considering Ottilie... I've seen it mentioned quite a bit on here, but with a 6, 4 and 2 year old already I think I'd have come across it if it had suddenly exploded into popularity. There are none at DS's (mixed) school, or DD1's (all-girl) school, or any toddler group in this area. I'm also considering -bella names and Florence type names (poss Floralie), and DD2 was almost Beatrice - so it seems we have similar taste! My older daughter is Genevieve (Gigi) and younger is Celestine (Celeste to everyone but DH who calls her Cissy). I adore the names and they suit my children. We go into each labour with a short list, and then choose according to the way the baby looks and acts when we meet them. So Gigi almost Clara or Francesca , and Celeste almost Iris or Beatrice.

Of your other ideas; Lottie, Ella, Milly all hugely popular if thats an issue. Honor, Xanthe, lovely but have to be careful with mn and surnames. Dora 'the explorer" seems less of an issue to me than "charlie and" Lola - though both cute. Nothing on your list that sticks out as awful to me - but then you've seen the kind of outlandish names I've plumped for so mine is perhaps not the best advice to receive!

Hope you find your short list/final choice soon so you don't have to worry about it any longer!

Beatrice is lovely.

I wouldn't choose Bella to go with it and a few of your names I don't like - Ottilie, Vivi, Camilla, Clemmi, Talulah and Xanthe in particular.

I do like:
Daisy (I have one)
Poppy
Florence (lovely)
Christabel (but not shortened to Bella): don't get me wrong, I love Bella (I have an Isobel) but I don't think it "sounds right" with Bella.

So after a long ramble: my favourite today is Florence!

janeite · 27/02/2009 19:21

Oh and I LOVE Vivienne!

seeker · 27/02/2009 19:22

You know, I won't rest til SOMEONE has a little girl called Clemency!

hedgiemum · 27/02/2009 19:26

I almost put Clemency on my shortlist instead of Celestine - you're not a fellow Chalet School Book fan are you?! I've loved the name since reading about the lovely character Clemency Barrass when I was 10!

Heated · 27/02/2009 19:27

Wheelybug, you can also derive Vivi from Genevieve.

Beesmummy, you have some of my favourites in your list, so imo you are going to pick a lovely name whatever you decide.
How about:
Beatrice and Mathilde (Tilda)
Beatrice and Charlotte (Lottie)
Beatrice and Meredith (Merry)
Beatrice and Annabel (Anna or Bella but poss too many Bs)
Beatrice and Camille (diff enough from Camilla)
Beatrice and Phoebe

wombleprincess · 27/02/2009 19:30

honor is a lovely name, i have one and have never regretted using it!

janeite · 27/02/2009 19:33

Meredith/Merry = gorgeous too.

conniedescending · 27/02/2009 19:33

Of your names I love: Florence, Ella and Rose...these are all a good match for Beatrice imo.

I also like Camilla but prefer Camille.

Other suggestions:
Harriet, Henrietta, Ophelia, Francesca, Clementine, Estelle/Estella, Emmeline, Violet, Imogen, Jemima, Tabitha, Matilda, Miranda, Josephine, Hermione, Evelyn, Sylvia, Isadora, Juliet, Martha, Alice, Georgina,

seeker · 27/02/2009 19:34
Blush
frazzledoldbag · 27/02/2009 19:36

Annabel
Kitty
Christabel
Rosie
Flora
or Camilla / Camille would be my votes.
I'm in the opposite situation - am having a boy and have no boy names but plenty for girls.
(had decided on Annabel if it had been a girl BTW.)

What were your boys names (if you don't mind me asking?) Might help?

Pippinella · 27/02/2009 19:37

I love some of your names on the shortlist!

Especially Maggie, Cleo and Milly.

How about Lotte (rather than Lottie?)

Loula
Bella
Tabitha
Camille is nicer than Camilla

Wheelybug · 27/02/2009 19:41

Thanks Heated - Will suggest it to DH but suspect I know his response. Not sure he even listened when I suggested Vivi anyway... Also have a neice called Jennifer so might sound too similar but thank you for the idea. I might spend the next 2 or so weeks suggesting it to DH if only to irritate him .

Cies · 27/02/2009 19:43

Really nice list

My votes are for
Camilla
Roseanna
Vivienne

Wolfblass · 27/02/2009 20:14

Beatrice and Francesca
Beatrice and Isobel
Beatrice and Camille
Beatrice and Tamsin
Beatrice and Poppy
Beatrice and Annabel
Beatrice and Fleur
Beatrice and Violet
Beatrice and Vivienne

My faves though are:

Beatrice and Tabitha (
Beatrice and Madelaine?
Beatrice and Martha

Lulubee · 27/02/2009 20:19

How do you pronounce Vivi? I mean is it Veevee or Vivvy?

Horton · 27/02/2009 20:59

I love your names. I think any of those would be lovely. Ottilie and Christabel in particular are gorgeous.

How about Magdalen as a longer name for Maggie? I really love Clemmie and would go for Clemency as a longer version of this.

I think Vivi would be Vivvy, surely? Short for Vivienne, which I also think is lovely.

Emmeline? Ottilie and several other of your names were on my list and Emmeline was a big favourite of mine but DH vetoed it. Actually, he also vetoed Tabitha which is DD's name but I had just given birth and he couldn't really argue.

I know a little Tallulah whose shorter name is Lula, which I think is very sweet.

I don't like Poppy or Daisy at all.
