Willoughby, Oscar or Albert?

traceybath · 22/02/2009 15:18

Currently pregnant with dc3 and already have an Arthur and a Henry.

Shortlist for DC3 if a boy is as follows:

  • Oscar
  • Albert (bertie or bert)
  • Willoughby

Honest feedback please especially regarding Willoughby as DH convinced its not a proper name but one i've made up.

Albert IMO. Could also be known as Albie which is nice too.

Don't like Willoughby - sorry!

Willoughby is, as far as I know, a surname (see Jane Austen for an especially caddish Willoughby). Oscar is lovely; don't like Albert tbh.

traceybath · 22/02/2009 15:24

What other bert names do you like mrsw?

Yes, don't think i'd go through with willoughby. So hard to think of another boy's name though.

Also just caught 5 mins of eastenders and there was a baby called oscar - shamefully that has put me off.

Any other nice boy's names out there? I like traditional but ideally not in the top 20 so not much to ask for

hf128219 · 22/02/2009 15:26

Marcus?

traceybath · 22/02/2009 15:26

Oh Janeite had forgotten that. Umm, definitely off willoughby now.

But unconvined by albert and oscar too.

Golly, better hope its a girl as have that name sorted.

I've met a RL baby Willoughby!
It's a bit 'out there' compared to your other ds' names though.

I wouldn't choose Albert because of having 2 ds with the same initial.

I guess that leaves Oscar as my choice.

Willoughby just makes me think of Kate Winslet shrieking it in the rain in the film of S&S.

Oscar is cool; Albert still a bit old-mannish for my tastes.

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/02/2009 15:31

My shortlist would all go well with your others - Dominic, Elliot, Lawrence, Duncan.

laidbackinengland · 22/02/2009 15:33

My DS1 is Oscar - but it is very popular now (Was rare 12 years ago grr) My DS2 is Wilbur and it's suits him very well. A friend has a Wilf too. Would either of those do for an alternative to Willoughby if others think it too caddish ?

2pt4kids · 22/02/2009 15:34

Albert goes best with your other Dc names, but a bit too similar to Arthur maybe?
I like Albert best

Marthasmama · 22/02/2009 15:39

I LOVE Albert. It's so cute! DD would have been Albert if she had been a DS. DH finally gave in when I was on the operating table waiting for the spinal to take effect!! Oscar was a strong contender for us, but we had an Oliver. Ollie and Oscar is a bit twee.

evamummy · 22/02/2009 16:20

Yes, Oscar is getting too popular imo....

I like Albert. What about Quentin, Elliot or Jasper?

jellybeans · 22/02/2009 20:35

Oscar

wotulookinat · 22/02/2009 20:50

Willoughby - is it a name? You couldn't seriously do that to a child.
Oscar - good name, but is too popular at the moment.
Albert - a good name, but your house will sound like an old folk's home.

LynetteScavo · 22/02/2009 20:53

Willoughby Wallaby Woo!

feedthegoat · 22/02/2009 20:58

Wiloughby is definately a real name. It was my great grandads name and when my grandma's brother did family tree it appears several times and was obviously the 'family' name used once each generation. I however didn't fancy taking it up so my uncle has named his cat it instead!

wotulookinat · 22/02/2009 21:00

it's a good name for 100 years ago. And a great name for a cat!

Cies · 22/02/2009 21:04

I think Albert goes best with your other names.

What about Edward?

nigglewiggle · 22/02/2009 21:04

ALBERT - DD's would have been Albert if they weren't DD's! I love it.

KristinaM · 22/02/2009 21:07

i think edward is good with Arthur and Henry. So you can have Artie, Harry and Teddy/Eddie

wotulookinat · 22/02/2009 21:12

Kristina is right - Edward goes very well.

Thunderduck · 22/02/2009 21:40

Willoughby is cruel. I don't like Albert but love Oscar.
