Willoughby, Oscar or Albert?

traceybath · 22/02/2009 15:18

Currently pregnant with dc3 and already have an Arthur and a Henry.

Shortlist for DC3 if a boy is as follows:

  • Oscar
  • Albert (bertie or bert)
  • Willoughby

Honest feedback please especially regarding Willoughby as DH convinced its not a proper name but one i've made up.

Right so the consensus seems to be none of the ones i thought and that my other DS's have old men names! And there was me thinking they were just nice and traditional.

Edward is nice but FIL's name v similar and don't want to name child after him.

Quite like george too but seems to be very popular.

Do like William but as i have a Henry not too keen on having a william (royal princes etc).

It was me that said old men names wasn't it ? I honestly didn't mean it in a bad way at all - I love older (traditional) names for both girls and boys. Your dc's names are very much my taste and it just the way I phrase it (I refer to dd as having an old lady name).

Sorry if you were offended

traceybath · 23/02/2009 14:01

I wasn't offended Tilly - i do like older style names .

Lordy though if its another boy its just going to be called baby i think.

Now if its a girl it'll be Beatrice which i love. Just wish i could think of another boys name that i love. Seems a bit sad to just settle on a name.

I think George sounds nice with your other 2 boys names.

Hulababy · 23/02/2009 14:08

scar - I like

Albert - I love the shortening Albie; not not sure about the name Albert itself

Willoughby - reminds me of Jane Austin, but I think of it as a surname not a first name

Fimbo · 23/02/2009 14:08

Miles?

Sam?

Tillyscoutsmum · 23/02/2009 14:09

Beatrice is gorgeous and in on our list for another dd (and was also my great grandma's name)

How about Chester ? Noah ? Gus ? I really like George as well.

Hulababy · 23/02/2009 14:12

Other older names to consider:

William
Edward
Frederick
Charles
Alfred
Archie
Stanley
Vincent

traceybath · 23/02/2009 14:15

Ooh do like noah!

The other problem i have is that lots of names i like, eg, Frederick, Samuel are names of family or friend's children so in my head already have an identity if that makes sense.

I think Willoughby is lovely, but I appreciate my taste in names is not everybody's...

georgimama · 23/02/2009 15:42

Go with George, you know you want to ....

MrsMattie · 23/02/2009 16:17

Actually, I can't bear those Americanised, surname-as-first name names like Riley.

Still think Willoughby is about as pretentious as it gets, though.

Oscar maybe. Not keen on the others.

traceybath · 23/02/2009 18:25

Blimey MrsMattie - i don't think willoughby is that pretentious. I like Will but don't want william as have a henry already.

Anyway said about 3 hours ago i'd discounted willoughby and was now favouring George. Hopefully thats not too pretentious .

Lulubee · 23/02/2009 18:28

I agree - Edward is the nicest!

There's a rather rude joke about a Willoughby...something to do with Winston Churchill farting in the bath!

traceybath · 23/02/2009 18:32

lulu - i do like edward but its fil's name and don't want to name child after him for many reasons

MrsMattie · 23/02/2009 18:43

It's not to my taste@tracey

Look, you asks for an opinion, you gets one!

Lemontart · 23/02/2009 18:46

Tracey - I love the name Noah too but reckon it will be dated and labelled as a classic norties name just like the Chloe and Jack of the 90s. Not necessarily an issue if you love it and prefer it to George personally.

traceybath · 23/02/2009 18:46

You're quite right mrsmattie - i did ask for feedback.

Think i'll just go with ptolemy and be done with it .

OP posts:
MrsSeanBean · 23/02/2009 18:46

OP - Albert.

MrsMattie · 23/02/2009 18:47

Ptolemy is by far the best, yes ...or Jayden?

traceybath · 23/02/2009 18:51

Now jayden thats a lovely name isn't it.

Perhaps in katie and peter andre style we should just call it junior.

OP posts:
Tidey · 23/02/2009 18:56

I'm sorry, I don't like any of them. I'd choose Oscar if it definitely HAD to be one of those three, but it reminds me of the green puppet that lives in a bin.

If you choose Albert, please don't use Albie as a nickname, it's the name of the racist dragon on Flight of the Conchords.

I clearly watch far too much telly.

Issy123 · 23/02/2009 19:26

My DS's are Henry and Albert both great names that go well together.
