What do other mums associate with these names and are they good choices?? First child a girl called Maya Jasmine. I'm half Indian so don't want a traditional English name.. Help please as it is getting close and I am not sure!!

Not so keen on Rio, sorry. Think of Rio Ferdinand. Like Sienna, but prefer Savannah (funnily enough, I think Sienna Miller's sister is Savannah). Love your DD's name though.

branflake81 · 16/02/2009 16:05

Don't like either, I'm afraid. They are both names of places, imho, not children.

MissisBoot · 16/02/2009 16:08

I like Sienna but no to Rio

nkf · 16/02/2009 16:12

I don't like Rio and Sienna is okay but not very okay. For what it's worth, that's my opinion.

MmeLindt · 16/02/2009 16:15

I thought of Duran Duran as well.

Sienna is very popular at the moment, I find it ok but a bit blah.

I like Maya Jasmine, that is lovely.

oops, sorry.

nigglewiggle · 16/02/2009 16:16

Not sure about Rio - he sounds like trouble.

I Like Sienna but it is inextricably linked with Miss Miller which IMO is not a good thing.

I have a Maya, so I guess we have similar taste! I DO think Savannah is good suggestion.

Stretch · 16/02/2009 16:17

I like both. Love the name Maya! Think they both go well with your DDs name too!!

Just make sure you say the full name out loud, and check the initials too!

nightgardener · 16/02/2009 18:40

Interesting- I really wasn't sure about rio at first- DH suggested it, but it did start to grow on me. Had Savannah on 'long list' - I still like that one too..
What about Nico? I prefer that to Rio really, but DH not so sure..

Sienna and Savannah are awful imo. Sienna M's sister is Savannah.

Nmsaa, but I prefer Vienna to Sienna! At least it is less Miller ykwim.

Susannah instead of Savannah would be much nicer. Susie is a lonn and Savvy just sounds weird.. Savannah called her daughter Lyra which is interesting and pretty. A stronger variation on Lila I think.

SalmonintheLiffey · 16/02/2009 18:46

lol at "rio sounds like trouble". He does. He'd be naughty at 6, and then rebellious at 14, and then a criminal at 18! sorry

nightgardener · 16/02/2009 18:47

Like Lyra but Maya and Lyra too similar I think..

What about Bruno?

MrsMattie · 16/02/2009 18:47

I like Rio for a girl better, although I'm aware it is more commonly a boy's name.

Not keen on Sienna at all. I think Miller, and she is so 'meh'.

mloo · 16/02/2009 18:49

There is a Rio in DS reception class.
This Rio is a GIRL, btw. I would go for a more obviously boy name, if I were you.

nightgardener · 16/02/2009 18:51

I said that to DH- I worked in a school and there was a girl called Rio.
Any more suggestions for boys names which aren't too tranditionally English and go with Maya??

OP posts:
SalmonintheLiffey · 16/02/2009 18:56

Mrs Mattie, I agree, she so 'meh' she doesn't even annoy me as much as she should.

eyeeye · 16/02/2009 18:56

There are so many beautiful Indian names it's a shame not to choose one.

I don't like either of those names, they don't go with the beautiful name Maya Jasmine .. they sound rather icky actually

Rio is a river, a footballer and a Duran Duran Song

Sienna is a place

SalmonintheLiffey · 16/02/2009 18:57

Siena is a place!

eyeeye · 16/02/2009 18:57

Aveshar
Anilla
Ayesha

randomname · 16/02/2009 18:59

how bout miller for a boy and rio for a girl

nightgardener · 16/02/2009 19:18

OK I am confused now.. this baby better wait a little longer!
Our full short list is:
Sienna, Saskia or Layla
Nico, Rio or Isaac
Having said that we keep bringing back names off our long list.. Being so indecisive!!!
more help please..!
