Calypso or Calliope

DH and I cant agree on a name at all. Mainly because he likes very popular names and I like unusual. Neither of us like nicknames but realize this isn't something we cant control so it's important to us that we also like the shortened version of a name although we probably wont use it.

We really like Callie for a shortened name and we both really like Calypso. I really like Calliope too, DH undecided on it.

So any opinions on Calypso or Calliope?

Any other suggestions?

We have dont have a boys name either so any help on that would be greatly appreciated.

DH says he likes common popular names yet keeps suggestion Apollo? I thinking thats a step too far.

I like all sorts of boys name my favorite is Octavio.

Oops! yes I can see why you are avoiding that then.

Calypso was a memorable character in the Mary Wesley novels, because during the war she managed to be sleeping with two twin brothers at once, thus appropriating more than her fair share of the available supply of men.

have you got Callum on your list

posts xed!

Oh here is a you tube clip from the tv adaptation of The Chamomile Lawn with Calypso in.

LOL so Calypso is a bit of a goer!

Love Callum but another family members name.
My dad is one of 7 siblings and I have about 25 older cousins who have young kids and my mums side of the family are catholics and generally have large families.
It just feels all the 'good' normal baby names are taken, especially scottish names. My sister had the same problem (being that we are the youngest amoungst the grandchildren) and in the end went for very popular top 10 names.

I like Bruce a good strong name for a child and a man. DH not so sure.

He is such a pain!

I 'normal' names that I seem to like are generally cnsidered poncy.
Like Lucian and Piers.

I can see your problem if you have so many cousins!

Lucian and Bruce are lovely names. Not so sure about Piers.

Wasn't it Polly who slept with the twins, not Calypso?

namehelp · 08/02/2009 21:40

LOL I think I'm going to have to read this book.

I like Lorenzo and it doesn't lend its self to nicknames.
Yeah another name on the list, well done Nighbynight!

Yes it was Polly who slept with the twins (during an air raid in London), but Calypso wasn't exactly chaste either. But none of Mary Wesley's characters are. (And the TV adaptation was dubbed The Chamomile Porn for that reason).

But honestly namehelp don't let that character affect your decision either way. It's a great name.

Jasper is brilliant!
