I love the name Scarlett but not sure if they are associated with red heads?

I think it's probably more associated with Scarlett O'hara - dark hair and flashing green eyes. I think of the girl as being "fiery" by not necessarily her hair.

Fable · 23/01/2009 13:13

Fiery as a good or bad thing?

Not red hair but I do think it suits darker hair.
Cant imagine a blonde blue eyed Scarlett!

NotADragonOfSoup · 23/01/2009 13:14

No. Actually, I would say it would be a little cruel to name a red head "Scarlett".

LadyOfWaffle · 23/01/2009 13:14

Dark hair, if you are going by S O'H.

TamartorousBeastie · 23/01/2009 13:15

No, more associated with dark hair imo

paolosgirl · 23/01/2009 13:15

I think it goes better with the dark hair/flashing eyes etc, and also with girls who are more extrovert iykwim. But that's probably the Scarlett O'Hara connotation - look at Scarlett Johansen, for example.

PlumBumMum · 23/01/2009 13:20

i imediately think dark hair
love scarlet

plonker · 23/01/2009 13:23

The Scarletts that I know have red hair ...

plonker · 23/01/2009 13:23

Actually, two have red and one has brown ...

Fable · 23/01/2009 13:24

Do you think it would get shortened to 'Scar'?

watching · 23/01/2009 13:30

I have a Scarlett - she's got brown hair and her name does get shortend to Lette. At the beginning we did call her Scar but I thought that was mean - it can be her "rock" name when's she's in her rock band earning us our pension!!

PlumBumMum · 23/01/2009 13:32

no don't think so but then again I didn't think Molly couldn't be shortened

Mols

Fable · 23/01/2009 13:33

Do you get a good reaction to the name watching?

I'm loving the rock name

OP posts:
weblette · 23/01/2009 13:33

Nope, dark hair. a blonde Scarlett with blonde would remind me too much of Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman...

Tillyscoutsmum · 23/01/2009 13:34

We have a Scarlett - she's fair ish with brown eyes (pic on profile)

Its not really shortened

no5 · 23/01/2009 13:35

I've got a Scarlett, she is very dark, she's got dark brown ringlets in fact she is a bit fiesty but then aren't they all at two! She is never Scar but sometimes Scarley or variations on that. I love it but there are a few that I know now and it seems to be getting more popular. Not saying that that is necessarily a bad thing just in case it bothers you.

Fable · 23/01/2009 13:38

Tilly they are both gorgeous

wombleprincess · 23/01/2009 13:38

no. lovely name.

watching · 23/01/2009 13:39

not really a reaction, but it bugs me that no-one knows how the spell it, it is not the colour and my mum keeps calling her Charlotte as she says it sounds similar, and even I've done it a couple of times (lack of sleep!)! People love the name as it's unusual - DH from Nigeria, and his family think the name's pretty for her.

Tillyscoutsmum · 23/01/2009 13:42

Thanks

PlumBumMum · 23/01/2009 13:43

Scarlett johanson has blonde hair

used2bthin · 23/01/2009 13:46

watching I've called my Scarlett Charlotte before too, I think its because everyone else does it so often. I also find occasionally taht it takes a few times before some people realise I am saying Scarlett not Charlotte when they ask her name. I love it and it really suits her but as a small baby it felt a bit glam or something to start with. Love it now though.
