I believe that Demi Moore named her daughter Scout after the character in To Kill a Mocking Bird.

Just wondering if any of you have been inspired by a book/film character when choosing names for your children

One my friends insisted that my baby should be called Batman

Or Spiderman if he was a boy.

DS isn't named after anyone, we just like those days.

fizzybellasmum · 16/01/2009 15:31

We named our daughter after an actress who played a Bond girl. My husband is Polish so she was named after Izabella Scorupco, a Polish actress who played in some of our favourite films. I'm not aware of it being a character name though.
I'm not going for a name from a film /book next time, unless you count the Bible, where quite a few names get chosen from!(wink)

Hubbs and i had names chosen already before the boys were born - and my ds2 just didn't suit the name at all - it was far too big for him as he was so tiny. So then hubbs said that we should call him the name that we did - and i agreed as it was the last name of one of my favorite literary characters

Clue - her first name is Temperence.

My son is named after the captain of the England rugby team when they won the world cup.
Also slang name for willy in America.......

subtlemouse · 16/01/2009 20:11

Hey Fennel - my cats are called Xena and Gabby!

lea1980 · 16/01/2009 20:35

my ds isnt named after an emmerdale character, although my nan does call him armstrong!! his middle name is dylan...
deemented i love the name brennan too..i would be sooo tempted to use it but dh isnt so keen!

SachaF · 16/01/2009 20:55

My dd is named after a character in a serious of books, and her middle name is after a character from Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The first name was because I really liked that name after reading the book, the middle name was because I really wanted a Buffy connection but there are far too many Willows already in the village so we had to go for a much smaller character (in part size, similar stature!)

ExtraFancy · 16/01/2009 20:58

I wanted to call my DS Sebastian after Brideshead Revisited, but DH not that keen. Maybe next time

janeite · 16/01/2009 20:58

We wanted to name dd1 Miranda (The Tempest) but dp's surname begins with a vowel and it ended up making a "rrrr" sound with it that sounded horrible.

ushag · 16/01/2009 23:10

My DD is named after my Nan and my DH's great auntie, and my poor DS.... He's named after my great uncle (an accordian-playing potty mouthed former music hall performer and ace person!)/ Jimmy Stewart and a 6 foot invisible rabbit. He's gonna kill me when he gets older

mamadoc · 17/01/2009 11:17

DH is a massive blues fan and we wanted to call DD Etta after Etta James but didn't go through with it in the end. We chose a French Canadian singer with a more conventional name instead.

RustyBear · 17/01/2009 11:26

slayerette - to answer your question - it's better than Rupert.....

Sallyre · 17/01/2009 11:32

DS2 is named Toby after the baby in Labyrinth....I met Brian Froud, the artist who designed all the characters for that film (and Dark Crystal) and told him and the baby in the film is his real life son - Toby! I love the film and I love the name....you remind me of the babe....

AussieSim · 17/01/2009 21:01

My daughter is Heidi - doesn't need any explanation really. Perhaps she will be a mountaineering type with a thing for goatherds. My DH is German and they had a Heidi television series over there which ran for years and the Heidi character in it is very cute with short dark hair - which is what my Heidi looks like so far - not the Disney version with long blond plaits. We wanted a girls name that Australians would strongly associate with being German - all our German friends think it is a hoot and sing the TV theme song to her

llareggub · 17/01/2009 21:04

DS has a first name from a favourite childhood book of mine. His middle name is Iestyn, who was the main character in an Alexander Cordell novel. I also had bit of a crush on the character!

womblingfree · 17/01/2009 23:09

hkz - I love Jude (not Law!) and Tess (...of the D'urbervilles) - my dad's a big Thomas Hardy fan!

Also like Linus (DH & I collect Snoopy memorabilia)

We're not planning on having any more babies though....

Barnum · 19/01/2009 16:37

My ds no 2 is named Orin after the main character of a book called 'North and South' set in the era of the US civil war. My ds no 4 is named Barney, NOT after the dinosaur altho I have a friend who begged me not to call him that because everyone would link it with 'The Dinosaur'. Interestingly no-one has EVER mentioned that though Barney Rubble of the Fintstones has!!
