I believe that Demi Moore named her daughter Scout after the character in To Kill a Mocking Bird.

Just wondering if any of you have been inspired by a book/film character when choosing names for your children

DS's middle name is after a crusty old Country & Western singer.

Lulumama · 15/01/2009 16:52

DD's middle name is after a film character , Amélie..

Lulumama · 15/01/2009 16:52

we both adored the film and have watched it umpteen times and Dh listens to the soundtrack a lot...

DC2 will be Jude after Jude Fawley from "Jude the obscure' if he's a boy. Always loved the book and the name (just trying to block the image of Jude law out..can't stand him)

I have a couple of boys named after George MacDonald characters.

Though I wasn't allowed Curdie!!!!

Buckets · 15/01/2009 19:22

LOL Hkz, Jude the Obscure is precisely why I wouldn't go for the name Jude!

Kbear · 15/01/2009 19:23

My little Spongebob isn't named after a character, I just like the name.

choosyfloosy · 15/01/2009 19:34

LOL Kbear

Would quite have liked Ferdinand after Ferdinand the Bull but it's a lot to deal with really. Would have made more sense than naming ds after a minor and extremely apocalyptic prophet, which is what we did.

frazzledmama · 15/01/2009 20:17

I named our DD after the hero of Exodus by Leon Uris - it was going to be Ari if she was a boy and Arielle (Ari for short) if she was a girl. It means little lioness of God.It really suits her!

neolara · 15/01/2009 20:19

My ds is Jem after the boy in To Kill a Mockingbird. Only one person has made the link.

hkz · 15/01/2009 21:27

Buckets- I know he's not exactly a happy go lucky sort of character! I just love a good tragic hero!

peachygirl · 15/01/2009 21:43

My DD's name is from the series 'Six feet under' at least thats what I think. DH maintains he got it from the sci fi series 'The 4400'

elvisgirl · 15/01/2009 23:09

DS is named after Steve Buscemi's character in the film Ghostworld - which appears in the film but not the original graphic novel story. Another contender was Tiberius after Captain James T Kirk as DP is a major trekkie.

Lulubee · 15/01/2009 23:23

The inspiration for DS name came from Tea With Mussolini (Luca.... NOT mussolini!) but I didn't exactly name him after it, I just liked the name.

Lulubee · 15/01/2009 23:25

Ooh, frazzledmama, Arielle is what I want to call my DD (if I have one!)

GodzillasNewYearsBumcheek · 15/01/2009 23:28

No but if i ever have another DD she WILL be named Aeris after the heroine in Final Fantasy VII.

Ok so she dies but there is a cheat where you can get her back...

Whoops

But seriously Aeris is a nice name.

Lavenderfly · 15/01/2009 23:46

my lil girl was named after a character in rugrats, after chuckie's stepsister actually... she looks remarkably like the character too! i think it is the perfect name for her... if i have another i like the name yuna for a girl or shuyin for a boy. both final fantasy names!

lucylocket1975 · 16/01/2009 12:35

Called our DD Kitty after character in P & P but everyone thinks after Calista Flockhart's character in Brothers and Sisters

beforesunrise · 16/01/2009 12:42

if we had had a boy i would have called him Frederick. After the Patti Smith song, but conveniently also DH's deceased dad's name.

as for a girl, DH vetoed the names of all the Sex and the City characters otherwise we'd already have Carrie and Miranda

GreatGooglyMoogly · 16/01/2009 12:44

Demi Moore and Bruce Willis named their daughter Scout after his movie The Last Boy Scout - nothing so cultured as To Kill a Mockingbird.

Fennel · 16/01/2009 12:47

If DP had had his way the dds would have been Xenia, Gabrielle and Callisto

As it is, their names are minor characters in a variety of books I like.

dd1 appears in Barbara Trapido and Margaret Drabble.
dd2 in Saki and J.D. Salinger.
dd3 in Margaret Atwood.

I quite like the cape thing. I'm possibly not a great judge though.

The tradgedy is that I never buy myself new clothes, and NEVER never in Monsoon price-range. Buying a new item of clothing for me is a massive treat. I bought that, and a beautiful blue patterned top with a tie under the bust... that I've since realised is a maternity top .
