But DD is nearly 3,000th in the Bounty names, and DS is - shock - in the 300s. What's more, both names are increasing in popularity (according to Bounty) - though I am not too concerned about DD's name becoming popular...

(That said, one of my aunts, now in her 70s, is an Olivia - and she used to lie about her name as a child as it was regarded as so outlandish!!)

My dd is a Grace Olivia - so clearly as common as muck! In my defence she is 7 which was at the start of the boom of such names

none of my dds' names are on the list, despite the veritable rash of dd2's-middle-names i've noticed on mn recently. it's one of those revival names, from an ancient relative. ditto dd1's middle name which is one of those that many consider beyond the pale irredemably old lady.

not surprised their first names aren't there, since they're ethnic

all four of my names (including my surname) are on there though, two of them top 10, does that make me ahead of my time?

TaurielTest · 01/01/2009 10:25

lolianja - he's a Peter - it was right at the bottom of the top 100 tables in 2003 but has fallen off since then. I wonder if it might have gone up this year though, which is why I think it's a shame we seem unlikely to see the ONS lists.
It was not on our list of boy's names at all (we were considering Thomas among others, and we didn't know the sex anyway), but several times from the moment he was born, my DP had this weird impulse to call him Peter - he waited a few hours to tell me about it, but it felt right to me too, so we went with that.

nappyaddict · 01/01/2009 15:41

What I don't get is if the list in the link is from bounty, why is the list on bounty slightly different?

rusmum · 01/01/2009 21:33

dD1 is no2 but wasnt that popular 5 years ago and dd2 is no 96!

jeanjeannie · 01/01/2009 21:41

DD1 and DD2 are not on the list - which surprised me as they are names that seem to crop up on MN all the time. I thought they were bound to be flying high in the chart. Perhaps 2009 will see them shoot up the list like Summer!

My names aren't on there either - then again I can't see my name making a comeback any day soon!

KathH · 03/01/2009 23:12

dd1 is 94th (& yes she's under 30!)
dd2 = 48
ds1 = 10th
ds2 = 9th
& dh = 15th. When I met him the only other living thing that shared his name was my neighbours yorkshire terrier!

Neither of my DC's names are on either list (DD Georgina, DS Nathaniel). Name picked for the bump is at 28 on boy list though so may need to re-think!!

YesSirICanBoogie · 23/02/2009 18:01

Here's the list in Scotland.

ramonaquimby · 23/02/2009 18:05

all 3 girls on the list - was aware dd1's name was popular when she was born, but I don't know any other girls with dd2 or dd3 names.

keevamum · 23/02/2009 18:22

Neither on list... DD1 Keeva and DD2 Louie

Thanks, jellybeans.

Yay, neither dd's nor ds's names are in the top 100!

Nancy66 · 08/09/2009 11:13

Summer came from EastEnders - Bethany from Cornation Street.

I predict Noah will shoot up on the 2009 list. Seems wildly popular round my way.

bevlin · 08/09/2009 17:13

Oh that's pissed me off no end. I was finally happy with Olivia, I accepted it was popular but not too much round here (Edinburgh). I know tons of mums and kids and don't know one single Olivia so maybe it's more English.
Do you think maybe it matters more where you are than a national, even scottish or English poll. Here, every second boy is called Fin or Finlay, my DS has 4 friends called Fin and he is only 2! Girls are a bit more random but I have to say I have heard alot of Ava's lately along with Eve, eva, Erin, Ellie, Ella.
Im demented with it. It's so important and I hate the thought of overly used names and yet I seem to keep choosing them!

honeydew · 08/09/2009 17:37

here in Bromley every one is called either Ella, Joshua or Grace.

I hardly ever meet any Jacks- why is that?!!

I agree about having an a different name- or more unusual. My name is no 31/ 32 of popularity on the boys list- and I'm a girl!! I seriously HATE my name- Alexandra. I do like Alexandra but NOT Alex. Even Alexandra is too close in sound to Alexander for me!It has become more popular for boys over the years and most people think I'm a man until they meet me!

No one calls me Alexandra, except my mum and sister. I hate having a unisex name/ ambiguous name so much that I'm actually changing it by Deed Poll soon to something more feminine. I used to get teased a child for having a boys name and I used to try and get people to call me other names like Catherine, Emma or Sarah to get away from the harsh 'Alex'.

So beware of giving you child a name that shortens to something too male or too female! They may grow up to hate it. My mum said she wanted a boy, but was disappointed. I still ended up with Alex though!
