DS2 made it to 2406!!
If you look on the "New" names list, most are just mis-spelt, or joined names (Macie-Rose anyone? How about Tony Junior?)

annasmami · 30/12/2008 22:29

My ds's name is in position 2644 and my dd's is in postion 276 .

noonki · 30/12/2008 22:34

thorny - esme was in the top 100 last year I think, I know of 2!

annasmami · 30/12/2008 22:34

DrowningInClutterandtinsel, really did you consider my son's name (2644) too far out??? I love it and have generally had very positive reactions to it .

lou33 · 30/12/2008 22:36

two of mine are now in the top 20, though they werent when i named them, and my other two arent on the list at all

BalthazarCandleQueen · 30/12/2008 22:39

Come on then, what is name 2644?

ThornyRose · 30/12/2008 22:46

I need to know what 2664 is as well .. please tell us!

DrowningInClutterandtinsel · 30/12/2008 22:48

There may be more than one name tied at 2644! And obviously our final choice was even further out so who am I to judge?

Re: ONS stats for 2008, I'm not sure whether they're going to appear. Wrote to them the other day and just got the following reply by email :

"I am afraid that the Office for National Statistics has no firm plans for
releasing Babies Names for 2008. This is because in previous years the
publication was produced using information from the NHS Central Register.

Following the Independence of ONS in April 2008, the NHSCR moved from ONS
to the Information Centre for Health and Social Care (the IC). NHSCR
decided not to continue to publish this output. ONS no longer has access
to the data source used for the publication in previous years.

I am sorry we could not help you on this occasion."

Perfect girls name, but not on the list; Jillian

andaSOLOnewyear · 31/12/2008 03:27

Phew! Dd's name still not there!

andaSOLOnewyear · 31/12/2008 03:29

Oooh! didn't recognise myself there! Saw my message, but didn't remember my new years name!

pluto · 31/12/2008 04:49

Not surprised to see what has come out as the top ten names - I am a teacher. It can be a bit difficult when there are 3 Charlies in the class! (Although it's a good name and it's always going to happen with popular names).

DS's name not on the list but I would be surprised to see it as it's Swedish. Thanks for publishing these Jellybeans - DC2 due in 7 weeks and it's going to help narrow down our name choices a lot!

Wallace · 31/12/2008 06:23

Loing the spelling "Timophey"

lolianja · 31/12/2008 15:44

I always find these threads bizarre (not meant as an insult, honest!) Why do people care so much that their children's names are more popular than they thought. The majority of people I know who grew up with "unique" names were unhappy about it. Put it this way, the Phoenixes and Bluebells of this world are the first to bemoan their names and more often than not head down to the registry office bent on a name-change the moment they hit 18... but you don't often hear Nicks, Charlottes, Lucys and Jacks complaining.

I'm a Louise, which was very popular and in a way I've always liked having that something in common with other people. You're not stripped of individuality or identity - somehow despite myriad others it's always "your" name. Some of the most boring people I know have really wacky, out-there names that I'd never come across before and haven't since. Equally, the biggest and most memorable character I know who is something of a legend wherever he goes is called Jack.

I can (to a degree) empathise with those who deliberately pick an uncommon name only to find it's at Number 3 five years down the line, but people wringing their hands because their little darling's name is at number 99 and they so wanted it to be "yooneek" - please! It's so childish and pretentious.

TaurielTest · 31/12/2008 15:56

Interested in the response from ONS, thanks for posting it Museli - wonder when/if we'll see the list from them to compare to the Bounty one...

until the 2008 ones come out, here's the two charts for 2003-2007 - GIRLS and
BOYS - we were amazed that the (very traditional) name we chose for our son wasn't even in the top 100.

lolianja · 31/12/2008 16:19

Puddock - what's the name? I've noticed something similar, realised a very common/traditional name of whom I know several wasn't on the top 100 ... and yet Tia is reasonably high up - never met one in all my days!

nappyaddict · 31/12/2008 17:32

Is this the top 100 names in Britain or the UK? Cos if is britain it won't include Northern Ireland.

meandjoe · 31/12/2008 22:33

blimey joseph has dropped to 17! i was a bit worried it was too popular but at least it's not in top 10 so every other kid in his class won't be called joe! i am an abigail which was unheard of when i was growing up but was massively popular a few years ago, seems to be dropping in popularity again now. i don't like all these made up/ american sounding names that are creeping in!

used2bthin · 31/12/2008 22:36

DD's AND my names are both on there! Scorpio my middle name is Jessamy, never heard of anyone else with it!
