...it seems too weird!

He's called Struan which in itself is quite nice but my parents have had a dog for about 12 years and he is called Struan! I can't get my head around a human being called this!

What do you think of that name?

I love the name.

I think it's an odd name for a dog.

LynetteScavo · 10/12/2008 20:45

Oh, and a prolific MNer has just called her baby boy Struan.

TortoiseRidesaReindeer · 10/12/2008 20:45

I know someone who named their DS3 the same as my Mums dog, Travis. It does seem weird!

I do like the name Struan though. Can't see it as a dogs name tbh but then you are used to it as a dogs name.

Geepers · 10/12/2008 20:45

Could have been worse. Rover would have taken some getting used to.

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 10/12/2008 20:46

My nanna got a dog earlier this year and called it the same as my dd

pooka · 10/12/2008 20:47

I really like it. Unfortunately am not scottish and with our scottish-sounding surname would have sounded ridiculous here in SE.

georgimama · 10/12/2008 20:48

My dog is called Monty. It is getting popular. My other dog is called Lucy, which is about as common as can be (and chosen for her because it was my favourite girl's name at the time - I mean, I would hardly call her something I didn't like would I?)

Why is this an issue? If a dog has a name, a proper one as opposed to Rex, Fido or Rover, then it is likely that you will encounter humans with the same name.

georgimama · 10/12/2008 20:48

Actually, quite like Rex for a potential DS2....

hollyivypoppy34 · 10/12/2008 20:48

don't - my bil has used my preferred boys name for his dog... I would still use it though (there are worse things to share a name with than a dog)

Boysboysboys · 10/12/2008 20:49

My nephew has the same name as my mums dog!

FrostyTheSnowman · 10/12/2008 20:50

I named DD2 after my friend's tortoise.........Sophie.

Struan is a nice name methinks.

MarkTheHeraldAngelsStretch · 10/12/2008 20:50

Every name I suggest for this baby my DH says 'No, that's a dog's name'.

My argument is YOU CAN CALL A DOG ANYTHING YOU BLOODY WANT- SAME AS A HUMAN!!!!

bitofasnowqueen · 10/12/2008 20:53

I'm finding it very wierd that a dog has the same name as my baby boy .

People are always commenting on the lovelyness of his name.

MamaG · 10/12/2008 20:53

I think STruan is a strange thing to call a dog. A boy, fab, but a dog

MamaG · 10/12/2008 20:54

oh and my DS2 is called the same name as my mum's cat!

MamaG · 10/12/2008 20:54

(her dead cat!)

my son is called Max
Until that point I had no idea how many German Shepherds and teddy bears were so named.
Struan is a celt name btw so a purposeful name. A strong boys name. I really like it fwiw

hatwoman · 10/12/2008 20:56

I know dogs and children called

  • Archie
  • Albert
  • Thomas
  • Flora
  • Paddy (ok not a kid but a grown up)
hatwoman · 10/12/2008 20:57

and I know a child called Rex. but not a dog.

LynetteScavo · 10/12/2008 20:57

I too gave DS a dogs name without realising it.

MarkTheHeraldAngelsStretch · 10/12/2008 20:57

My friend has had lizards called Dave and Geraldine and a cat called Norman.

I might suggest Geraldine to DH and see if he says 'oh no, that's a lizards name'.

gingerninja · 10/12/2008 20:58

I love the thought of a dog called Alan

georgimama · 10/12/2008 21:00

A friend of mine's mum had a cat called Monty. Now that is odd, isn't it? I mean Monty is a boy's name, or a dog's, but surely not a cat's?

Tobermory · 10/12/2008 21:03

My Mum had her wedding reception in a place called 'The Struan'
