...it seems too weird!

He's called Struan which in itself is quite nice but my parents have had a dog for about 12 years and he is called Struan! I can't get my head around a human being called this!

What do you think of that name?

My cats are called Jack and Sophie.

Someitmes peopel called thier children Jack and Sophie. Very odd.

LynetteScavo · 10/12/2008 21:05

I knew someone with a son called Henry, and a cat called William. Now that's confusing, because Henry is a cat's name, and William is a boys name.

ilikeyoursleeves · 10/12/2008 21:05

Don't get me wrong I like the name Struan but it's just taking me a while to get used to it because the only Struan I know is a dog!

Just thought it was funny they have the same name and it's feeling a bit weird LOL

We had a dog called Betsy but I've never met a human Betsy yet but that would be weird too. My DH's mates son has the same name as my mums other dog- Mac!

I always wanted ponies called Velcro and Radar when I was little.

When I announced ds2 was going to be Max - my mum's first words were 'you can't call him that, it's a dogs name'. We did. I love it. However neighbours then bought dog already named Max. Neighbours other side have a dog with same name as ds1. Fortunately we have a bit of space but can be a but confusing when neighbours are calling their dogs and boys rush out to see who wants them. And no ds1's not called Rex or ROver

mickeymistletoe · 15/12/2008 15:29

My mums cat is Poppy. i am tempted to pinch the name for this baby if it is a girl!

my nephew is called max. we know quite a few dogs with that name.

Sibble we had exactly the same thing, named my eldest and mum said 'you can't call him etc...' but we did and then we had new neighbousrs and their dog was called that too We lived in very close proximaty and poor lad got really confused during the summer especially when he went next door to play.

A friend of mine's mum had a cat called Monty. Now that is odd, isn't it? I mean Monty is a boy's name, or a dog's, but surely not a cat's?

My nan's cat is a Monty and it suits him down to the ground. He is one of the biggest cats I have ever seen. Not fat just huge and ginger.

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 15/12/2008 15:46

I like it.
I have a friend whose mother named him Spike and the cat Dave.

FIMBOingaroundtheChristmasTree · 15/12/2008 17:54

I love Struan and would have it on a list for a hypothetical 3rd dc but as snip has had the snip, it ain't happening.

FIMBOingaroundtheChristmasTree · 15/12/2008 17:56

OMG - that should be dh (herein referred to as "snip"). LOL

audley · 15/12/2008 19:16

Hi, Newbie here. Not sure what I'm doing coz I just lost my post, but wanted to say I have two dogs, Colin and Margaret and DS is Barnaby, which I am told is a dogs name

audley · 15/12/2008 19:17

Oh, there it is!!!

LittleMonkeysMummysAXmasFairy · 15/12/2008 19:44

I always loved the names Molly and Harry. My mum got 2 cats and called them...Molly and Harry.

When I mentioned it she said 'oh, I was trying to remember who said they liked those names' I was 4 months pregnant at the time

I get that all the time - everyone seems to know someone with a dog called Poppy - my postman's dog is even called Poppy...

My Mum was told once she had a dog's name - her name is Sheena...

mawbroon · 16/12/2008 09:23

Looking for a girls name? Look no further than my MILs dog called Beryl

LazyLinePainterJane · 16/12/2008 09:42

Is this you trolling on yourself, expat?

Tortington · 16/12/2008 09:46

my dog is called george perfectly respectable name

audley · 16/12/2008 09:47

Bathsheba, my aunt's dog (think Lassie) was called Sheena!

bookthief · 16/12/2008 09:52

My grandma was apalled at my mum's choice of name for me.

Quote: "That's a dog's name!"

BTW, I am not called Rover either.

We called our cat Nancy and now I wish we hadn't because it would be top of my list for a girl's name.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 16/12/2008 09:57

I had this problem when choosing names for my kids- as a vet, every name that DH came up with, I said "No- I know a cocker spaniel/ hamster called that!" I gave up and realised it didn't matter after I went back after ML with dd2 and the first animal I saw had the same name as her! With ds, I just gave in to it and called him Tom

There will always be someone somewhere who knows another XXX or an animal called XXX, so no point in worrying about it. My best friend called her son the same as our guinea pig (as commented on loudly by dd1 )

clairebear88 · 16/12/2008 13:59

I love the name Phoebe but have been told it wouldnt be right as there is a dog in the family with same name. Who calls their dog Phoebe????

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 16/12/2008 14:07

My sister named her first son after my cat!! He is none to amused when I yell at him to get off the furniture

SnowOfHands · 16/12/2008 14:08

Love human names on animals. I have very fond memories of my rabbit Martin. My brother has a two cats called Chris and Purdy, a dog called Alf and a mouse called Simon. My cat was called Wombat.
