What initials shouldn't be used?

There's plenty of initials that are generally thought of as a no-no - CUM, COK, KKK, FUK, TIT etc., etc.....

...but what about the following.....

Toilet-themed, eg. BOG, LAV, WC etc?

Political, eg. BNP?

Animals, eg. PIG, COW, HOG etc?

Other body parts, eg. BUM?

Would any of the above initials put you off choosing a name that you love for your DC? And what other initials would you avoid?

My Dad was DAD. We thought that was cool. There was a tradition of the A as a middle name but that would have made him MAD so they wisely gave it a miss.

My Dad was DAD. We thought that was cool. There was a tradition of the A as a middle name but that would have made my brother MAD - sorry not making sense today

We gave dd2 an extra middle name to avoid her initials being ZIT so she's now ZIMT.

My first initials are VA. I always knew I would not be marrying anyone with last initial 'G' (or even 'J'!)

TinkerBellesMum · 11/11/2008 18:24

I know a couple of DR's, my ex was the son of a DR and he was MD. Apparently it was a coincidence...

MmeLindt · 11/11/2008 18:29

Heymammy
ZIMT is cinnimon in German Reminds me of Christmas cookies Zimtsterne, sweet and delicious.

DS is CAN but it did not bother us. My Dad did call him "my wee tin can" until I gave him the evil eye.

RustyBear · 11/11/2008 19:17

My uncle is ASS.

My mum wanted to give me the middle name Ann,after her friend, but my dad didn't want any of us to have middle names, as he was so fed up with his 3 long names.
If I had been given the name, I would have been JAM - and when I married, would have become JAR

MouseMate · 11/11/2008 19:38

Hedgewitch - My DH is a Mr MR Surname as well, did ask MIL once if she did it on purpose, but then she pointed out she was Mrs MRS Surname - I'd never noticed !!!

shopaholicDIVA · 11/11/2008 22:47

heymammy · 12/11/2008 13:52

Ooh MmeLindt that's nice to know

Oh and dp is a MR DR Surname. He is overly very fond of this oddity

TheNewsMonger · 12/11/2008 21:00

A girl I used to work with had her and her husband's initials engraved on to their wedding rings. When she went into pick them up they were sniggering quietly and after some probing, admitted that they'd all (in the jewellers) had a fit of the giggles over their initials. K o'C & SAC

Not that funny, but there you go. She said that she felt a bit smutty about it from then on too, and it had never struck her before.

moosma · 13/11/2008 15:35

My Brother in law is M Greedy, they were going to give him the middle name Robert but decided against it, although his brother is IM Greedy.

My cousins have the initial RAG and TWIG.

DD1 is EMC which I think makes her sound rather clever (if you add an = and a squared)

streakybacon · 13/11/2008 15:52

Dh works for a big American company were all job titles are referred to in initials (CEO etc). There was one chap called Simon Platz whose job was Business Unit Manager and he was listed in minutes as BUM SPlatz. Oh how we laughed.

Antdamm · 13/11/2008 16:16

wen preggers with ds, dp and I tried to think of a middle name as we already had picked out his first name - we were going for JAM, but couldnt decide on a name we liked, he ended up being JCM - not as excitin

Antdamm · 13/11/2008 16:17

cravingchocolate · 13/11/2008 17:10

When my cousin got married she became GBH!

musicposy · 13/11/2008 17:32

We were going to call our eldest Bethany until we realised her initials would be B.O. (the O is quite a difficult surname initial to work with). I had visions of a teacher at school holding up a painting of hers and going "B.O? B.O? Who is B.O.?"

So she's now HO instead (ho ho Ho!) My youngest is LO and hubby and I are SO and SO.

I should have kept my original surname

JaceyBee · 13/11/2008 18:21

I went to school with a girl whose initials were SLAG. Apparently it was pointed out by the registrar at the time but they obviously weren't that bothered!
