What initials shouldn't be used?

There's plenty of initials that are generally thought of as a no-no - CUM, COK, KKK, FUK, TIT etc., etc.....

...but what about the following.....

Toilet-themed, eg. BOG, LAV, WC etc?

Political, eg. BNP?

Animals, eg. PIG, COW, HOG etc?

Other body parts, eg. BUM?

Would any of the above initials put you off choosing a name that you love for your DC? And what other initials would you avoid?

DD's Christian names are PI - I hope and pray she never marries anyone with surname beginning with G.

babysoon1 - POJ is absolutely fine. But if a girl you have to hope she doesn't fall in love with a man whose surname is Russell-Newman.

DD's initials are EMH, which I was dubious about (it is a Star Trek thing and we are ex-geeks), but no-one seems to have noticed

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/11/2008 07:36

We actively avoided ARS for dd.

Lottiee · 11/11/2008 07:49

DD's intials are

J.E.D.I

Obviously not my idea as I'm more a Dirty Dancing girl then a Star Wars freak! Makes us chuckle though

Cies · 11/11/2008 07:52

I don't think you should actively avoid a name just to not have "dodgy" initials. Kids will find anything to giggle about.

As has been said before on nickname threads, you can make a funny name out of nothing. e.g. Helen becomes Nelly the Elephant.

Lottiee · 11/11/2008 08:15

oops, meant DS

Totallyfloaty35 · 11/11/2008 09:35

dd1 initials are ABH,if she had been a boy we were going for Gabriel so i suppose GBH would have been slightly worse

babymt · 11/11/2008 10:56

My mums VEG and shes a veggie too which I always found funny.

spamm · 11/11/2008 11:21

I wanted to call my ds Samuel, but it would have made his initials SH*T, so we chose not to go with it, despite my cousins' kids really encouraging us .

I am quite conscious of initials because we so often get asked to initialise documents, cheques and minutes of meetings at work and other documents at work are full of individuals initials, so I just did not feel comfortable with it.

LuLuBai · 11/11/2008 12:04

Cies - you obviously didn't have to have your initials all over your sports kit at school.

Yorky · 11/11/2008 12:15

My middle name is Lorraine not Ann as my Dad was a mechanic and my parents thought CLR kinder than CAR!

cheesesarnie · 11/11/2008 12:19

s t d
s e x

Tidey · 11/11/2008 13:00

DS would be 'STD' if we had gone with my mum's suggestion for his middle name. Thankfully we did not.

IanDerick · 11/11/2008 13:12

F.A.J.

MingMingtheWonderPet · 11/11/2008 13:17

My brother is called Richard Peterson, my parents wantd his middle name to be Ian, but changed their mind when they realsied his initials would by R.I.P. Not a great start in life!

earthpixie · 11/11/2008 13:25

Be careful with surnames too. I know a K.Hunt.

CuppaTeaJanice · 11/11/2008 13:30

I went to school with a Travis Rout - he had Trout written on his belongings!

My friend has a little boy called Max, and his initials spell MAD - I thought that was pretty cool!

TheInvisibleManDidIt · 11/11/2008 13:36

biscuitsmustbedunkedintea, my dh's initials are GOB too! lol

beanieb · 11/11/2008 13:37

My ex's surname is 'hole'

his middle name is 'adrian'

I have NO IDEA what his parents were thinking!

fiplus4 · 11/11/2008 13:41

The shoebag test is crucial. Can you imagine going on the bus with one lovingly embroidered 'F.O.'? We're now OW so had to be very careful when naming brood. I also once shared a flat with someone whose post arrived addressed to B. Hind.

ohIdoliketobebesidethe · 11/11/2008 13:41

My dd is ET.

My son is MPT to avoid PMT.

mammyofET · 11/11/2008 13:47

My DS is ET. (Sitting with fingers crossed that they never remake that film - for his sake).

dd is FEK but her peers aren't familiar with Father Ted so I think we get away with it.
