What initials shouldn't be used?

There's plenty of initials that are generally thought of as a no-no - CUM, COK, KKK, FUK, TIT etc., etc.....

...but what about the following.....

Toilet-themed, eg. BOG, LAV, WC etc?

Political, eg. BNP?

Animals, eg. PIG, COW, HOG etc?

Other body parts, eg. BUM?

Would any of the above initials put you off choosing a name that you love for your DC? And what other initials would you avoid?

My sister in law is ASH and funnily enough she is the only smoker in the entire family.

I knew a tiny baby with the initials ARS. How couldn't his parents have noticed? His dad was a policeman so he must have had to deal with plenty of people being arsey.

DD is NHR - she would have had different forenames if we were Smiths. As it is, her initialled belongings DON'T look like they've been pinched from the local hospital.

Littlefish · 13/11/2008 20:32

It always worried me that my nan's initials were NF. No sign of bovver boots in her wardrobe luckily.

MrsFiddleback · 13/11/2008 22:49

I didn't think I had children with odd initials - but ....... AT is the first BT is the second CT the third DT is the fourth ET is the 5th, so I guess they are all a bit funny.

My first child was to be AEMT - but my dh registered her name AMET - because in Latin that means 'let her love'.

RainbowChaser · 13/11/2008 22:53

My dads is DAM and he says he was never able to buy a personalised number plate because they didnt do DAM.

gigglewitch · 13/11/2008 22:58

my neighbour is a butcher. their eldest son is Stuart. Stu for a butcher's son

My sister is HRH. She married someone with the "H" surname the same as our maiden name, just so she didn't lose her bit of royalty. OK, I guess she liked him as well as they have been married 27 yrs.

Aelfwyn · 14/11/2008 14:31

I was going to be CAM but my dad was worried that I might end up as a CAT or something when I married, so my parents registered me as ACM instead and I've spent my life explaining why I am called by my middle name. Anyway,as I later pointed out to Dad, I might have married a Mr. North-Edwards and be ACNE, so there's no point worrying too much!

You have to careful with name combinations though. My mum used to teach a little boy called Miles Toogood, which is just cruel. Apparently he'd changed his name to Giles by the time he was seven.

ilovemydogandPresidentObama · 14/11/2008 15:19

My grandmother denies planning this, but:

Dad's initials: WEE
Uncle's initials: ARE
Aunt's initials: THRE

roobarbschmoobarb · 14/11/2008 16:31

DD is SEA...when pregnant with our second child we were dithering on boys names but knew what we wanted if no2 was a girl. It was only after the birth of, maybe thankfully lol, our son that i realised that our chosen intials for a girls name spelt AIR

shouldbepackingpesha · 14/11/2008 23:13

My DD's initials are MNS which I was aware of but didn't think it a big enough problem to stop me giving her the name.

At one point (when she was also going to have XP's surname instead of mine) she was going to BNH but I felt naming her after a make of cigarettes probably wasn't the kindest thing we could do for our child!

lulu2 · 14/11/2008 23:24

my dd's initials are CALM which was unintentional.

Anifrangapani · 14/11/2008 23:27

Our ds is Tom Richard.....

Took me a while to work out why people were calling him Harry.

Alishanty · 14/11/2008 23:34

BJ

hotmama · 16/11/2008 12:39

My nephew's initials are F.I.R.M. However, his surname is Morgan so when older he will be writing FIR Morgan.

When I pointed this out to my db he just laughed heartily - I hope dn doesn't have an impotence problem when older!

Poor love!

reban · 17/11/2008 13:26

meandmyjoe · 17/11/2008 15:51

VAG, FAG, FAJ,

POJ is fine babysoon!

My ds' initials are J S M which when said as a word sounds like 'jisum' only realised that today though

slayerette · 17/11/2008 16:08

Where I work, our initials form our email address. So everyone is really aware of what they spell. Fortunately (or sadly), nothing embarrassing or crude. Since it's a school, the kids would love it.

DD was DFL, no problem, she has recently taken DP's name, and is now DFS
She likes to tell people she is a sofa company though....

saz007 · 26/11/2008 11:52

The initials of the first and middle names I had chosen (ages before I'd got married) for future kids would have been JE for a boy and CO for a girl

DH surname begins with a W so that would make JEW and COW

I'm begining to think I should change the middle names

eilidhfi · 26/11/2008 14:31

My DD is PEA I was a bit about it but DP was adamant that noone would care or notice. He was right.
